I'm getting to the point I know how he felt.
?
tinnitus.
He killed himself over reported covid side effects, tinnitus?

Hope you're okay Roger.
yeah, it sucks big time, I wouldn't kill myself over it, but damn I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I don't remember what silence is.
Have had it non-stop for almost 3 years. You get used to it.

Left ear.

Screams at me.
I think I've had tinnitus from the time I was about 13 years old. As long as I pay it no mind it doesn't bother me, but if I do pay attention I definitely "hear" it. Moving around, it doesn't seem to register but if I'm sitting in a blind on a nice calm day it sure reminds me it's there. I guess I've gotten used to it...can't remember what it's like to not have it.
I know your pain, 40 years of it
Look into CBD,read articles where it's supposed to lessen the effects of tinnitus.
Or a specialist..
I think my hearing aids accentuate it.

Ah the magic cure all
I've suffered with it since t Marines.
Really good buddy also.. he takes anxiety medicine cause of it.
I think it's a matter of focus. If you focus on it it'll drive you mad.
I've had it for years, but had my left ear blown out by a guy shooting a rifle right next to me a little over a yr ago, I'm pretty much deaf in that ear but for the ringing. I can't hear someone talking to me unless I turn my head to use my right ear.

Same situation. Blown left ear drum from handguns. I’m considered deaf in it, especially, now since the tinnitus came along.

I can’t hear my wife most of the time because she talks in low range. Most people I can what they’re saying just fine. Maybe not, but I don’t care enough to get a hearing aide yet.

Wish I knew the answer. Researched it and some kind of supplement was the only treatment. Not cheap and you need to take it awhile before the benefits begin.

I thought I had read at some point about hearing aids that employed a similar technology to noise canceling headphones.
Using reverse frequencies to cancel the tinnitus sounds.
What I would really like is to be able to play the sound I have heard constantly for many years played back to the hearing consultant at the VA through her headphones! Condescending consultants are the norm here. I do not wish this screeching on anyone , as it it overwhelming some days!
I have had it for 30 yrs. I told my chyropractor and he said he had some over the counter stuff for it. It didnt work much or if any. It is by Coincidence that I have been having a real hard time breathing. I started eliminating things I though might be the problem . It felt like a lump in my throat and pain in my chest and right lung. Every time I drink milk , it irritates my breathing somehow. I also suspected all the coffee I was drinking for many years was drying out my throat. I met a singer at church , she said she didnt drink coffee cause it dries out your throat , and I remembered that. I stopped drinking milk and coffee 3 weeks ago. The tinnitis and the vitamins I have been taking for a month did help. I dont think it is the vitamins from the chyropractor. This weekend I started drinking tea and coffee and even some milk. My breathing got worse and right now, my tinnitus is worse than it has been in several weeks. I am quite sure the caffine in the tea and coffee is making my ear ring a LOT more than last week. It is something in the coffee and tea. I dont think it is the milk. The vitamins might have helped a bit. Last week I laid in bed and noticed the ringing was less than I can remember in many years. Before coffee I drank tea ( wifes family is from the south) before that it was Mountain Dew so I always had sugar and caffine. It would not hurt to lay off caffine for a month to see if your tinnitus tames down a little. I am done with any caffine ad may do away with most all sugar if it means getting rid of this sound. It is really loud right now! Also, I have been putting in home made ear plugs most all the time. I take half a square of toilet paper and twist it to the size of an ear plug. They go in real good . It is just enough to keep the cracking sound out if someone drops a board or there is a loud bang close to me at work . This might have helped also. Hope this helps.
I have it from gunfire inside houses and flash bangs going off next to me. It sucks, but I'm getting used to it. Sucks when I'm at deer camp and can't hear the rain on top of the trailer we sleep in.

I’m lucky I don’t have it, fired lots of 12 gauge shells

Have it non-stop in both ears for exactly 50 years now....

Never thought about killing myself over it...but I slept with the radio on to drown it out for a loooooong time.

Same ear , same crap.

Mine is the result of some significant neurosurgery 22 years ago. Took my hearing in that ear so for compensation left tinnitus 😉

Worse when tired, being in noisy places( like the Texas Roadhouse) makes it worse.

[bleep] happens ....
I’ve pretty much gotten used to it , it just is there. Way to much really loud music from my teens and 20’s and lots of shooting really loud guns . My wife and friends say I talk so softly they have a hard time hearing me but I think I’m talking normally .
I've had tinnitus for more than 40 yrs. , tried the nose cancelling hearing aids and they did nothing to help the tinnitus.

Same here . . . 55+ years and counting. Sometimes it's better (less noticeable), sometimes it's not.
I too suffer from constant ringing in my ears. It bothers me most during hunting season, when my surroundings and I are silent, the ringing/tone can be maddening. Like Big Pine, too many concerts in the 80s & 90s (AC/DC, Van Halen, The Who, Iron Maiden, Queensryche, Metallica....to name a few). That, and tens of thousands of rounds down range, and in my youth, not always with adequate hearing protection.

I have had the symptoms for many years. Comes and goes. Usually I don't think about it until someone mentions it. Thanks. Not.

It Could be a cougar screech in your ear...
Or a shrew screech at your back...
Have had it 30 years, doesn’t bother me too much unless I am thinking about it, thanks Roger.

Understand completely.
Motorcycle racing in my teens, loud music, and a lifetime of shooting. Was about 16 when a buddy ripped off at a dove without giving me a heads up, there went about half the use of my left ear.

The tinnitus is worse when I drink alcohol and when I use Ibuprofen or aspirin.

Good luck finding any relief.

yeah, it lets me know when I need to take my blood pressure meds.
I cant hear in a crowd.

So....I avoid crowds.

Suits me fine.
same.
I have good touch of it, masonry drills, confined spaces and jack hammering got mine.

Buzzing and hissing right now.

I have noticed when it magnifies, my blood pressure is spiking. Seems to run a pattern in my situation.
I’ve had it for 46 of my 64 years.
Caffeine definitely makes it worse.
Crowds make it tough to pick out what someone in front of me are saying, and the jumble of noise makes me irritable.
It’s worst when it’s quiet in the woods. The tinnitus masks the sounds of animals moving.
40% loss of high frequencies in left ear, 25% in right. Constant ringing around the clock. Enough to drive a person crazy.

Have one of those in my family also. Son-in-law talks soft. Told him the first time we met that if he wants to take to me then he will have to grab his balls 😳 haven't heard anything he's said in 3 years 🤷‍♂️
You really know you got it bad when you walk into the room and your wife answers the phone.

You may have avoided tinnititus shooting lots of 12 ga shells but you developed a pesky finger twitch laugh
I've gotten used to it. Really don't notice it unless someone brings i up, Lol.

It went away for awhile last year when I had my fall but it's back again.
I've had it a long time. I just thought it was the NWO beaming it into my head to drive me nuts. Jokes on them as I was already nuts before the ringing started.
Niagra falls cannot hear anyone unless no white noise and in the same room. Funny can heard birds singing
Lol

Tinnitus
Had it since October 29th 2016. Left ear. Two shots into an elk with a 300 RUM with a muzzle brake. No ear protection. Really dumb on my part, wish every day I had it to do over again.
My left ear is screaming as I type this. 10 OCT 2020 was opening day of duck here. We had 3 in a boat with me in the stern. Fields of fire were established before shooting hours. Sure enough, a woody came from the stern heading away from us. As I pulled up at the 4 to 5 o'clock position, the guy in the middle fires. Fugg!! I see the muzzle flash out of the corner of my eye. The blast actually hurt in my ear. Haven't heard schitt in that ear since except this damned ringing. I figured it would go away. Same thing happened 25 years ago when my brother kept slapping the trigger of his 284 at a running doe. Four rounds from 3 feet away, forward of the muzzle. That took about 8 weeks to subside. It's been damn near 6 months since this last episode. I think I'm screwed.

yup. one time too many like me.
FFS Roger,

mentioning that scheidt around a bunch of us that have it is like..........................

playing a f'n ABBA or Neil Diamond ear worm song at a party, the stopping the music.

Hadn't thought about mine all day, even went shooting (plugs and muffs) and was around a lot of gunfire today.

Come home, eat dinner, watch some TV, then come in here in a quiet room and Roger mentions tinnitus.

Yipppeee!

Few drops of CBD oil might help.
My version sounds like a field full of crickets. Fortunately, I find that sound quite pleasant.

Yup...
Year round crickets since about 1971. Co inky dinkly, about the same time as I bought my .17 Remington

Doctors back then were undecided whether mine was from loud noises, or infantile fever during a bout of measles before I was a year old.
Doctor supposedly told my folks that if I lived I'd be deaf. And likely retarded.
106 degrees for a couple of days.

The old man, when I really screwed something up, was known to say, "that damned Doc was right!"

And yeah... It's funny....

The extreme tinnitus that some suffer, not quite as amusing...
If they found a cure, it'd drive me crazy trying to readjust to not having it, and there's no way in hell I'm going to stop drinking coffee.
96....turkey hunting, buds watch alarm went off and i didnt hear it. Same ring as in my ears.

Pulsative tinnitus sucks. Had that off n on a spell, rare now.....if it happens its light n breif.

Guitar solos on vid/ CD.....some notes now gone altogether.

Anxiety increase.

Weather/ sinus......can make it worse. Also ups misophonia. Had me all pissed off last 2 days.
NSAIDs can crank it up bad too
Unloading the clipazine on an amish machine gun last rifle season was the cause of my flare up. Either that or the endless heckling I got when I came back to camp. It's gotten somewhat better here of late.

Cause you unloaded a clipazine?
Sounds like a good flare up😉

Yes. I don’t like crowds anyhow
Left ear pretty bad - right ear is ok but damn it gets real old when there isn’t any background noise. Way too much gunfire to expect anything better I suppose.
Circular saw here. mad
Many reasons, here. Farm and heavy equipment, competitive shooting, blasting crews, building construction, to name a few.
Years ago, hearing protection was almost unknown, and mufflers were not all that common.
Noise induced, per my audiologist - unlike 2 of my brothers, where it's genetic.
Right handed long-gun shooters tend to have left ear problems, due to the angle of the head.
I've had severe tinnitus since age 14 - 68 now. "Hard of hearing" my azz - I'm damn neared deaf.
Don't put off getting hearing aids - the longer you wait, the more of the ear to brain connection (cognizance) you lose.
And that loss is irreversible.
yeah it sucks to have it...... so what.....been through ALOT worse.

Your comment on your old man evoked a giggle and similar verbal slaps from my old man. His two favorites were a bit different but same idea. "I know you weren't born stupid!" was oft heard as was, "Your mother's genes are really on display today, kid..." wink Rog', I'm feeling like a contributor now. Maybe shouldn't have taken you to that Garbage show at the Orpheum downtown a few years back. Thinking back I recall being confused when you asked me how much I paid for the Jefferson Airplane tickets... As an aside, friend or not, I'd have lost my shyt and struggled with not returning the favor, TWICE, to the sorry bastard whose stupidity and negligence cost you so dearly then and forever on out. Pretty much unforgivable, IMO. I almost always make it a point hunting or shooting w/people I've done neither with before. I like my hearing, so need people to not ever put it at risk, be it with a bird hunt or at a range. I'm lucky my tinnitus is very mild and sympathize w/those who suffer severe cases.
If you've ever heard what it sounds like after a big batch of Cicadas hatch out and are singing in the trees,....that's what I hear constantly.

Here is something that ALL of YOU GUYS should try, my dear wife some time in her 40s started hearing a noise in her head doc's did not know what it was and tried a few different things with no relive, one night as i was laying beside her I could actually hear the noise ,, kind of a swishing sound. so off to the doc OK i can hear that , NOBODY had thought of trying to hear the sound DA, SO then find out if someone else can hear the noise that you hear,
It turns out that she had a malformation of blood vessels inside the skull but outside of the brain, almost like a patch of steelwool of vessels and the sound was blood being forced through the restrictions .

I won't go through all the things they tried but the main thing that is important is some one else besides you can hear the noise, and that becomes the starting point of treatment.

If any of you want more info PM me

Norm
40+ years of it. Sucks, but have obviously gotten used to it.
