You guys need to get ERCOT under control. A little cold snap and the price you pay for electricity jumped to +10,000%?

Tell us again just how phuggin better Texas is than Yankee country!
Please.
How much smarter, how you all do things so much better!

Thing is, I like Texas. Just get tired of the BS.

Right now, your electrical system sounds like a match to
California's a few years ago.

What will Texas do when summer is here? When I lived in Dallas in the summer we used air conditioning. Used more electric in the summers than any other time.

Well, Texas did stay red, there is that. So, overall I’d say the people are smarter.

I don't know. ERCOT controls a grid in the middle of Texas. Mostly where Yankees have migrated, but it does effect some normal people.

We don't use it in East Texas.

If Texas had voting machines like Colorado then Texas would be a blue state too.

Colorado doesn’t need to cheat to stay blue, nice try tho.

I just spent a weekend in Boise. It's changed a lot since I left in 2003. There's an afghan market that sells halal meet near my old job. Lots more Somali and Sudanese too. When I was there we had some Bosnian refugees. I worked with one who was great to work with and we became good friends.

I guess the Obama administration decided Boise needed more diversity so activity brought it in. The Somalis and Sudanese will likely make much better neighbors than the white blm supporting leftists from Seattle, California, and Portland that are flooding the place.

Boise was an amazing place to live around about 2000. It's sad to see it grow so much and see the commies take over.

JackMountain is in ""Virginia,"" that said, even Austin has some state Coppers with good sense, in early March of 2015 i was headed to a 24HR pig shoot in South Texas, had my 1 ton Dodge loaded, headed out, carrier bearing started shaking, [yeah, i know] went back and grabbed Wifes single cab Z-71, threw my chit in it, gassed it up and headed out, long story short, South of Austin i stopped on the interstate to take a piss, passenger door open, hosing the chit out of the shoulder when up pulls a DPS Trooper, he sat while i finished up, got out and asked what i was doing, lol, like he didn't know.

Told him about my 1 ton, and now had a minimum of 75K worth of rifles and ammunition in the bed of this truck, didn't want to stop at a rest stop/c store and make a big fu-king mess in his state were someone trying to empty this pickup bed while i was inside taking a piss, 'Damn sir, i dont want you to do that either, safe travels" i told him to be safe and have a great rest of the day.

Former Texas AM All Star turned preacher told a group of Yankees before he took them to Texas for revival meetings in Baptist Churches the following.

Men, a lot of northerners think the southerners aren't very smart because they relax, take their time and talk slow.
Northerners think in phrases and sentences and say it fast . Southerners think in paragraphs and take their time telling you. They are a lot smarter than most of you Yankees.

Sure our totalitarian governor has shuttered businesses and
stole and election, but to bring up Philly?

Philly is that uncle no one ever mentions.

I know Texas a bit. Never lived there, but I bet I have traveled
over more of it than the average Texan. Fine state. If able to
freely choose where to live, probably wouldnt be Texas.
BUT it would definitely be the top 5.

Batten down your hatches, those changes are coming to a town near you.
Austin is already there.

The problem with ERCOT was they had too many non Texan's as members.

I believe that problem is being addressed this session.

Whenever we have colder than normal temps down here in SWFL the power company cautions folks that their heat feature on their hvac unit is not
Very efficient as their AC feature and to expect to have a larger bill due to the heater using so much power. My guess is places like Texas have similar systems.

What I like about Pa is they have marked public hunting lands and free shooting ranges all over and still have not too bad gun laws. I think NY State is prettier but the laws on everything suck.

Lord I hope Texas stays a red state.
Posted By: Gun_Geezer Re: God bless Texas - 04/14/21
The biggest problem we have in Texas is the damn Yankees and communists that have moved here. I have a solution.

Born here: Use all the electricity you want. Use all the water you want.
Not born here: 1000Kw and 30 gallons per month.

That would stop the migration.

So we've established in this thread that ERCOT does not cover East, West, North, South, or Central Texas, but their website says they deliver 90% of the power in the state. Apparently ERCOT is the fat girl everyone likes to bone but doesn't want their friends to see them with.

So sorry, also forgot to point out that it's all some Yankee's fault.

I guess the OP is a little clueless as to what happened during that cold blast and why it keeps having an impact. ERDOT asked China Joe's administration to waive a requirement that "renewable" sources be used and to allow them to dust off conventional sources to cover the increased load. China Joe said NO and they said if the state did use it anyways the price per megawatt hour would be hugely increased. That caused a few local instances in which the price spiked and if the OP actually read the article he would see the 10,000% increase was in one small area and not the whole state and the sole reason for that increase was the China Joe Administration.

As to bashing TX, I spent well over half of my Navy career in VA and the only state in the nation that I despise more than VA is NJ. The OP can keep that cesspool, I'll stay in Amarillo.

Yep. You can take what Dillonbuck says and divide by half and get sort of close to actually what's going on.

Started quite the chit storm just poking fun at the
way some like to criticize others. (In fun, I assume)

Thing is, it seems to have hit some nerves under thin skin.

Would like to really poke now, but never pay enough attention
to the agitators to know if I got any of them twisting now.
Ashamed of myself, hate to waste an opportunity for a good
payback prodding.

As to the OP, the situation sucks.

As to the hellish price spikes, if my understanding is correct,
it's the same thing that hit here awhile back.

Electrical generator choice.
People jumped to companies that offered super good prices
at low cost times. With the understanding that prices could jump
under certain conditions. When the conditions hit, people with normal
$150/month bills got $3500 bills. And cried and complained.

Sorry, you signed the contract. You only focused on that low number.
Remember ARMortgages? Same thing.

REA runs adds for us to "Do The Electrical Shift" on hot summer days.
Avoid using any electricity possible until after 6pm.
Our absolute peak hour/year is in the summer.
The demand during that hour seriously affects the power generation
price charged the co-op for the entire year.

Considering that, if you sign a lowball wholesale price/kilowatt based
on cost, the provider is forced to pass on those fees.
Just business.

He travels all over Texas more than actual Texas residents do, or at least that's what he said. Like I mentioned....divide it by 1/2 and you'll get close......

Nope, not anymore. Drove all over it as trucker through the 90's.
Haven't seen much of the Big Bend/extreme West Texas, but
have been over a fair bit of the rest.
Obviously not as much as you, but most people don't cover much
territory really. 100 miles from home and occasional trips.

Heck, when I started running dump truck it was funny as heck the
places in my back yard I didn't know. I could trip plan for Modesto, Boise,
or Laredo in my head. No idea to to get to a little burg in the mountains 40
miles away.
Posted By: saskfox Re: God bless Texas - 04/15/21
I can't remember what we called those dump truck drivers but it wasn't nice.
