A dealer just offered my bud $35,000 for a Chevy that he bought for 31K a year & a half ago.
He asked because his boss sold a 5 year old duramax to them, not traded, sold for cash, $42,000. I thought he was BSing me till I got on the dealers website & saw what they were asking for used units.
Hard to get new inventory and they're paying a lot to get used.
Harley cut back production as part of their turn around. This spring they have me 300 more for my old Road King than I paid for it in 2018, new with 0 miles on it.
It looks as a lack of new computer chips causing demand to outpace available vehicles. Throw in all the extra “benefits” and ppl are willing to pay more for what they can get now. We have a 19 sequoia TRD that dealer offered $3200 more than we paid for it in feb of 19. Problem is the same model and package in a 2021 if you can find one is 14k more than we paid for ours. Didn’t take long to realize we better just stay with ours.
I'm in the process of listing my wife's 2019 Cherokee trailhawk and my 2019 ram Laramie. I already have cash offers for significantly more than we paid for them new.
I'll dive my old hunting truck and my wife will drive our new pacifica until prices come back down, of they do.
carmax offered $38300 and $2000 tax saving (?) on buying a car from them, Toyota dealer said they will match it for more!! meeting them tomorrow.
eventually want a Tundra TRD but can wait.
Ref "tax saving"... You only pay tax on the amount owed if you trade, as opposed to selling it to them (or anyone else) and paying full amount for the new one.
Tacoma's already had the second highest resale of all vehicles, second only to the Ford Raptor.
For those of you who get a check every two weeks, think about what this does to businesses that need vehicles to provide goods or services. It's not just automobiles either.
Now is the time to sell stuff if you don't need to replace it.
Finding someone which will pay that much could prove difficult.
No, it won't, at least right now.
My buddy is the top mechanic at a massive Toyota dealership near here. I had lunch with him just yesterday. He said they have two.... **TWO**.... new trucks on the lot. I am scheduled for a Toyota Care service next week and he told me he'd let the manager know I was coming. I am not looking to sell my 2019 Tundra (I love it) but I got a HELL of a deal on it and if I can make $10k on it I will.
The new generation Tundra comes out next year and he told me, is will blow away my current Tundra. By then the market will hopefully have corrected. I can drive my Jeep until then.
We'll see what they say. I doubt I will pull the trigger but the used truck market is STUPID right now.
CoWorker bought a new F250 last year decided to go with a F350 duallie for towing a camper, the dealer offered nearly 10k over what he paid for the F250 last year
Crazy stuff going on. He asked because his boss sold a 5 year old duramax to them, not traded, sold for cash, $42,000. I thought he was BSing me till I got on the dealers website & saw what they were asking for used units.
In mar 2020 I bought a 2 owner 2015 Cc silverado with the Duramax with 103000 mi. Extremely clean in all aspects. Not an LTZ but still highly optioned. I gave 32k. it now has 107k mi
I have seen some crazy numbers being asked for these used pick ups now I have no doubt I could sell mine for 42k in a day or two.
Dealership where my wife bought her Tacoma has been pestering her to sell her 2019 Tacoma Limited 4x4 to them, said they would give her what she paid for it, she told them to pound sand.
New Toyota Tacoma’s are selling faster than Toyota can build them. Many dealers are charging 2-5K MORE than MSRP, and getting it. Trucks are often sold weeks, even months BEFORE they get to the dealer. I was shopping a few months ago and became frustrated. Finally found a dealer I trusted and told him what I wanted. They told me they had one coming in 3-4 weeks. Gave him a deposit. Paid MSRP Got the truck I wanted, and I could sell it tomorrow for more than I paid.
Things are crazy right now. My buddy has a 2012 Tundra SR5 Crewmax with 49k miles and the dealer just offered him $35k cash when he had it in getting the oil changed.
I took my Toyota in for service yesterday and there was a 4 dr Tacoma TRD sport on the floor with a Factory sticker 49745. That is 18 k more then my 2014 TRD with similar equipment.
