Winter, I will bring in clean dirt, build support walls and barriers, upgrade the lighting. Replacing the gutters and drain lines this summer to fix the water seepage.

Then it’s set steel and cardboard targets. Done.

Wish ammo prices would come down by the time I’m finished...That ain’t gonna happen.

The blood test is cheap, do it a few months in a row after you start shooting and see if the lead levels in your blood go up.

I could be very cool, if I think the build out correctly and pay attention to some details.

Lighting package I’m going with will give low light options, that can mimic dusk, near dark, and almost pitch black.

Building some barricades and a few low walls. 96’x120’ ft looks like a large space, empty...But, run and gun will whittle this space down quickly. I can’t go a full 360* unless I spent a small fortune on backstops.

My thinking is line of fire will be front facing left - center - right with 15 yards of safe zone behind the starting position.

Drawing it up is frustrating....Wanting to have the ability to change the course with some ease for different shoots.

Any ideas ?

The ability to draw tarps like window blinds can take an area to no-light in seconds.

There is no reason to try and achieve multiple levels of lighting via hardwire. There are a bajillion options that are portable/temporary.

Good luck with it, and I think goalie (?) has a good idea. Get a blood test to establish a baseline level of lead. That way you can test periodically and make sure your ventilation system is adequate.

The original owner back in 1999 had this placed dialed in for horse riding. There are horse trails all over the property that run for almost 2 miles with all the switchbacks.

We bought the place for the seclusion. There is a second large shop that sits across from riding arena that holds tractor, equipment and toys.

The pistol range will be built for enjoyment and stress shooting, depending on what you feel like doing. CQB with AR’s and pistols is part of the plan.

I’m fully retiring from painting in 3 months. After the 2021 hunting season. I’m spending my time building the range.

I’m looking forward to being off high ladder work.

Another option would be to make the indoor portion for simunition or paintballs only and confine your shooting bays/tactical ranges outside.

That would make for a more safer site and alleviate your need for very expensive ventilation systems.

One of my old hunting buddies Butch was the consummate sportsman he did it all including Ocean fishing. As for me, the Ocean scares me to death I can barely swim I could prolly put my head back in order to float to keep from drowning especially in salt water but that's it. Butch had a 19 foot Gregor aluminum boat and likes to fish for Mako's.

Anyway he kept hounding me to go fishing with him for several weeks one summer so I finally agreed just to shut him the fuqk up. So we launch out of Dana Point Harbor and he looks at me and says "By the way, we're going to Catalina that's where the Mako's are" I'm thinking to myself you mother fuqker. So of course the sea was rough that day and I'm hanging on to that fuqking T top for dear life whist Butch slams his way swell to swell toward Catalina. I'm looking down at his GPS screen thinking in these conditions it will take most of daylight just to get there, roughly 30 miles. Finally Butch says we're going back to the coast to fish for whatever so we turned around. Ended up catching a few sand bass. I was amazed I didn't get sea sick.. Thought for certain it would be coming out of both ends LOL

Then there's my wife Island girl raised in Hawaii. We went there for our honeymoon and to visit her family (the ones on parole) back in 97. I had never been there, my first time to Hawaii. She's from North Shore Oahu an area known for it's giant surf and Tiger Sharks. So we walk down to the beach and Hula girl takes off swimming out past the break water, showing off. I told her if something happens I ain't going in after your ass...

Commercial indoor ranges have to deal with fumes - lead, powder, primer. Some ranges have gone 'no-lead' to deal with the expenses.

If you are going to shoot steel frangible ammo is a good idea, most is lead free though the primers do have lead. Paul Howe's site, CSAT has some good layouts for an indoor shoothouse/range in his publications section that may give you some ideas as to doors/openings, T intersections etc. There are some pretty cool airsoft guns out there that are excellent for practicing scenarios, discrimintion and low light drills etc.

I am jealous, that is a very cool space and a fun project.
