I was in church this morning.

We had the first after church coffee in a long time.

Good for you.
Those ladies need a strong man protecting them.
Does your pastor or are there any others in the congregation who carry?

Rambo said that the mind is the best weapon.

Which leaves you two completely unarmed.
No idea Frank.
Just curious.

Nothing wrong with being prepared for the worst case scenario and saving lives.

I went to a church with a vast majority who were pro self defense and 2A. Nobody but me admitted concealed carry. My preacher didn't mind.
I've also visited churches in Florida to NY State that were extremely open about concead carry. All of those were baptist.
I was at a big Evangelical church and the preachers part time temp body guard was packing. The baptists got multiple death threats from public hard preaching. The evangelical was threatened to, but for other reasons. A baptist church in Philippi WV was held up at the morning service with by thief carrying a shotgun. Nobody was carrying, but thankfully nobody was shot.
His pastor is a bleeder.

Got any scripture that covers that?

LOL

Tote one in your bible.
I was looking at some online last week.
It'll never take the place of my Bible, but it's a good idea to carry both.

Sure you were.
Laughing.
Being able to defend yourself is Biblical. Jesus told the disciples to buy swords and Peter was armed when Jesus was arrested.

I started thinking about it again when I was looking for options.

I visit the convalescent and share the gospel more than carry binoculars. I need some kind of way to carry a large print Bible and keep the light rain off. It gets heavy after a while. The smaller pouches like the Joey just aren't quite big enough.

"

This with belt loops sewn on makes sense to me......for "The sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God."
Then CC separately for the handgun .

Yes, and people reading can notice that Jesus never told Peter to turn in the sword to those soldiers. He said to put it back into the scabord. Then He asked him a leading question about fulfilling the Father's will.

And for defending those entitled to your protection.
Imagine being in front of wabi and slappy when the guns came out. You would be safer running through south chicago in a klan suit on Saturday night.

In spite of the fact that the Church of England was founded for sinful purposes, there have been some great men of God come out of it. In recent years, though, it's fallen again, deeper than ever.
Stoopiter than hell (hint) to limit it to christians.

But, expected.

Every Christian should also be a die hard patriot too. If you're a patriot you believe in defending not only yourself and your family but others as well. Not just within the church either.

The trouble is that there are millions who call themselves Christians yet they support stuff like abortion and queer rights. They're in for a real shock when they find out that their 'christianity' is false.

Yes and that's most likely too.
I don't have stats, but an educated guess is that churches are still low risk venues. Most thieves go for lone weak looking prey. They typically avoid crowds of witnesses.
I brought up to your statement to a class I taught and a fed LEO reminded that puts a person at possible risk. He was right, but I add that an honorable man acts to defend the weak against criminals and then counts that cost. Reasonable person doctrine must be considered too, because we don't always see the context from the beginning.

There is a time and a place for every defense. I notice what Jesus said there: "Do you not think I can ask the Father, and He will give 12 legions of angels to defend?". The thing many pacifists get hung upon, is that this was THE time when Jesus needed to be vulnerable to evil for our sakes. Defense was out of the question....yet, it it were not His time, the soldiers would not have prevailed. This was a singularly special event where self-defense was not an option for Christ.

Christ's words to Peter - "Put your sword away!" was a command to Peter to THINK rationally before getting himself needlessly killed or injured. He did not tell His disciples to surrender - He instead asked the soldiers present to restrict their attention to Himself, and let the rest go. Far from a pacifistic scene.

His command through Paul - "so far as it is possible, be at peace with your neighbor" - carries with it there ARE those neighbors you simply cannot be at peace with. The Biblical mandates for defending ones house and belongings still remain after the Cross, because man's propensity for evil, corruption and crime did not vanish at the Cross.

Agreement up and down the line on this point....
Well put TXLoader.

Where have you been on our Sunday Bible discussions?
You have a good handle on Luke 22.
Jesus' command to turn the other cheek has been grossly misused. A slap on the cheek in those days, as it is today, is an insult, not a viscous attack. It stings but you aren't hurt, just insulted. Jesus said to walk away from insults. They aren't worth your time. Forgive and forget. This isn't the same as defending yourself and yours from a real attack.

True.
There are many examples of self defense going back as far as Genesis 14. Abraham's nephew was captured by a confederation of allied kingdoms. Immediately, Abraham led his trained household and chased them down. With God's help, he fought against impossible odds and destroyed those many armies and rescued his nephew's family.

That example is the first mention of self defense. I have talked to pacifists and the best they can offer is that statement of Jesus taken out of context. He certainly was not disqualifying everything written in the OT about defense of family. The Luke 22:36 reference puts it in perspective.
Several out of our congregation always go armed. If my fellow church goers were assaulted by a firearms toting person then there would be free air conditioning. I really hope I never have to do that. The Lord will deal with me when he calls me back to him. Be Well, RZ.
Several years back our new pastor asked whether I would help him find a pistol for protection (he knows I do marksmanship training with the boy scouts). My only question to him was "are you willing to use it to shoot and possibly kill an intruder?" He said he couldn't do that; he simply wanted it to scare someone off by brandishing. Informed him the intruder would quickly figure that out and wrestle you for the gun and use it against you. "Sorry, I can't help you pastor" was my response. He was genuinely thankful for my walking him through the thought process and alternative outcomes which he had never considered.

You are in a valuable position to be able to instill in those boys the biblical values of defense of family....safe, proper use of firearms and marksmanship. Many of those boys likely don't have family to help them with this challenge. The most they'll ever get is shoot em up video games followed by an army recruiter in high school.

That's one of many reasons we all need the Lord.

As far as that goes, the pacifist preachers need to put their trust in the Lord and do as He says in Luke 22:36...(see the mini sermon.)

But God's Word says, "The fool hath said in his heart there is no God."

There's no hope for that kind of dumb apart from God.
That goes for all people and even those who falsely claim to know God, but deny the gospel.....(see mini sermons in signature)
How about Athiests, Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, Muslims, and all the rest of us?

I am pretty sure the 1'st guarantees all of us access to the 2'nd.
What about them?

This was my Sunday sermon that I posted for believers in Jesus Christ. I copied the title of it and posted it in the title section.

The rest need to trust the only way to heaven.
Everyone has the right to defend their families, sadly though their lives end regardless to any 2A reasons. This is the first and most important consideration for every people group and individual.

That's a bit disjointed. But it seems that you recognize we all own that right to self defense.

Some get their hackles up a bit when it sounds like proselytizing Christians are claiming to be special and endowed of rights not available to all.
As has been said here, be aware of the surroundings. "No such thing as a fair fight".

Crappy Hamper is the kind of self professed "Christian" that turn so many against them.
Its easy and idiotic to fault the message because of the messenger.

I'm just patiently waiting for the "Every Christian Should Own a Pit Bull" minisermon thread.

You won't get that posted by me, but maybe you should ask Billy the goat.

I only post sermons from the Bible.

"When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left". .... Matthew 25

That's a short fall of the bible - it was written before these "weaponised" dogs were available. How it would have been addressed if they were is just speculation, unless someone want's to take a swing at how the principles can be interpreted for the current situation.
