I know of some of the largest hospital systems that have hundreds of critical care beds that are empty.
I was reading a news report that the headline said the state was running out of beds, but then mentioned they needed 1580 beds, but only had 1520, or there abouts.
That doesn't make sense. There are those many critical care beds in each city.
Then in the second to last paragraph it mentions this is only a survey of 11% of state hospitals.

My wife is a nurse. She has done the travel gig for the last year. Right now she is on the west coast and said they had to turn patients away the other day. Not because of all the beds being full. Because nurses are using up sick days and vacation days since they will lose them if they don’t get the vax. In that department they had 3 call in sick that day.
Throughout this entire thing not once has she said every bed was full. It’s always a lack of staff. Now there is going to even be a bigger lack of staff.
It’s interesting to me because most healthcare places are a business. There is already a shortage of staff and yet the business wants to shrink their employee pool even more. And it’s not like you can just hire anyone off the street when there is a nationwide shortage already. From a business perspective I don’t understand why they would do that to themselves.

It's amazing to me that my hospital is allowed to tell me I have to get vaxxed or be fired, but the frustrating part is there is no conversation on the matter. I, along with many others, have worked in the hospital since this thing began without a vaccine and haven't gotten COVID, as far as we know. Currently in my department there are several employees at home with symptomatic COVID, all were vaxxed. Now you need a third shot. Soon it will be a fourth.
Another interesting thing I see at my hospital is that there are many front line workers who do not want the vaccine. In fact, the majority of the non vaxxed employees are direct patient care givers. Including ICU nurses. We aren't all running scared from this as we see it every day.
Oh, and there are plenty of vaccinated people admitted to the hospitals.

be there. But they get tons of crap that could wait for a Dr. Appt. tomorrow.
Most days, it runs about 50% are people that needed ER care.
Heck, I got a cut at work a few weeks ago, company policy is
ER. But my doc has what's essentially a clinic, and the do minor

Good summary…. Worked with a kid from NJ when I transferred to NEPA. He had a coffee cup map of the US. Had a red spot on east coast for NYC. Had a red spot on west coast for LA. Virginia is about the same anything east of 81 and north of 64 is different

Centra health here is doing a mandatory vax or no job deadline November good nurses and doctors are leaving in droves meanwhile the COVID ward has exceeded max capacity a lot of them were layed off last year as they weren’t doing “non essential “ care from what I here centra is broke because of that and I believe this is a purge to save money

Four years in Wyoming County just west of 81. Once I got settled in, realized I was in same Appalachian mountains that run through Eastern KY. Just a little further north. Most rural PA folks that I met were stand up, down to earth folks just like other hard working folks I have met around the country.
But, yeah. Drive an hour East and it’s like a totally different world.
From what I’ve noticed there’s a whole different language west of the blue ridge in Virginia
