Best friends Dad used to always get 10 for 10 with his Winchester Model 42 410 when we were kids, by doing that. The limit was only 10 back then in the early 70’s.
We always accused him of waiting till the doves landed at the water’s edge, since he always snuck off to the tank by himself.
Big Jim, unfortunately .410 is the hardest to find shotgun ammo in our area. Hope you find some on the Internet. Unfortunately, it want be cheap.
Or Trade it in for a Remington 870 youth 20 ga.
Or post an ad here in the Free Classified for .410 ammo.
Hope you find some for Daniel to shoot. Soon !
IMO those 870 youth 20’s are some azz bradding mofo’s, no?
Never owned one. Had a 16 ya 870 for my first pump gun as a kiddo. But I was 12, IIRC. I was skinny and it kicked the crap out of me. But I didn’t give a schitt. Beat the hell out of my H&R Topper single shots in .410 & 20 ga.
I’ve got one of the 1187 auto loader youth models in 20 ga. Seems like it doesn’t kick at all. But it’s a heavy SOB.
Couple years ago I picked up a .410 Tristar Viper G2 and grabbed a few boxes of hunting rounds but nothing for shooting trap. By the time I went looking the shelves were empty so I got on Gunbroker and someone said above “ouch”. I decided to try and low ball a bunch of auctions and out of 6 I won 2 cases. I figured people either forgot or moved on to other auctions. Might be worth a try. Good luck, Dave
Bought my grandson a mossberg 500 410 and really never gave a thought about ammo sure was eye opening, this was back in Jan and a mec loader couldn’t even be found,
I finally I found 5-6 boxes and a mec 600 jr and 500 AA compression hulls so were good on target loads for awhile, looking for some steel loads now with no luck, its been a somewhat frustrating experience hoping things improve soon,
The best part is my grandson loves his new gun the journey has been worth it!
them 410's have been expensive ever since i was a kid. the old man started me on a old clip fed bolt action 410 and i'd empty that clip on every squirrel or rabbit i saw. that lasted one season and the old man got a 20 gauge which i didn't grow into until high school. you could buy 2 or 3 boxes of 20 for what one box of 410 cost.
My youngest, Daniel, won a Mossberg bantam 410 shotgun at a Turkey Club kids day.
It's not in yet....but hopefully it gets here soon.
Looking for a couple cases of target loads for him and his brother.
So far, I have missed some good deals on AmmoSeek.
Are there other types of ammo finding websites like that?
Thanks in advance.
That is cool as heck for him man. I see 410 at wally world every so often. If ya got connections with people in the area that are closer to a wally world than you are . I would make it a point to them to buy it for you whenever they see.

If you see any 16 ga in paper hulls, let me know
The smell of a freshly fired paper shell
Mmmm, well we all know
I have some old paper Remington #2s. They have the little sticker on the end telling shot weight and size. May shoot some through the new to me 37 this weekend.
I mean really. I asked where I could buy some and have had multiple offers from folks that just want to send them.
I really appreciate it.
A fellow reached out via PM and told me where to find some. A place called Blue Collar reloading.
For the time we are in now...it was a very reasonable price. Like 12 some odd dollars a box.
I ordered 3 cases! That should keep Daniel and Richard in 410 shells for a while.
Looks like I need a 410 loader now.
Thanks again everyone for the leads and the offers. It means a lot.
talk to the skeet guys if there is a club nearby. when I was doing a lot of competitive scatter gun we always used to collect spent hulls in rare gauges for the reloaders... especially if you came across good quality shells.
I usually by my 410's from Natchez. 2.5's always shoot better than 3" shells.
Yeah...I know why, but discussing such stuff is useless on this forum.
Was able to buy three cases of 2.5 no. 8's.
Some kind of Canadian ammo? Challenger?
Jim; Good evening sir, I've been following the thread and see that you're doing not too badly, so that's good.
My first shotgun was a .410 and I'm sure your boys are going to have piles of fun with theirs.
Challenger is made in Quebec and we see a lot of it here north of the medicine line.
They load up Gualandi slugs which are made in Italy I want to say and seem to be well thought of in terms of anti-social bear cures. It was what was in my shoo bear rigs for years before I found some Brenneke last year Jim, so I suppose I was trusting my hide with it, whatever that all means.
Good luck on the reloading too, it'll be a fun thing to do with the boys as well.
All the best to you and your fine family this fall Jim.

Dear Dwayne,
The 410 was made for prissy, tweed jack, pants and bonnet ensemble wearing homos, who strolled through the highlands of Scotland looking for small game to feed their Lords.
It’s a sad excuse for a shotgun...Big Jim, sell that pile of metal and wood and buy Daniel a real shotgun or maybe 20 cases of Cherry flavored Pop-Tarts.
Used to be an old timer that hung around my favorite gun shop that said he had a .410 he shot trap with that was choked tight enough you couldn't fit a cigarette butt in the end of the barrel.
Said he had no trouble keeping up with the fellers that shot 12s.
I am still looking one of those .410s choked like that.
Beaver10: Good evening brother Beave, I hope the day treated you folks well.
Did you know and please note I might be entirely wrong about this, but the research I did on the development of the .410 indicated it was a case of dual independent development in the US and Great Britain.
If that's not the case, then I stand to be corrected for sure and of course in true north of the medicine line, official Canadian fashion apologize in advance, just in case, in order to maintain the status quo, etc.
I really don't like Pop-Tarts or better said didn't the one time I tried them years back.
They're not really made from food are they?
Buddy was hunting doves last night with a 28 gauge OU and it looks "about right" for that or quail.
I need to find a 20 gauge sometime if I keep on dove hunting..
All the best to you all and good luck on your hunts.

First general sessions judge I ever stood before, she dove hunted with a .410 in a Rem 1100
I got to keep my license that day, no one else before me did on the morning docket

Brother Dwayne,
You are correct ! The venerable 410 🙄 was a collaboration, albeit, separate endeavor between the US and GB. The Scott’s wanting to reduce the damage done to the small game for the Lords, used the 410 in an effort to provide more presentable table fare.
The 28 gauge, to me, is a proper gauge for gunning small and medium game, due to it hitting like a 12g with less bite.

PS
You obviously knew my Scottish part was all BS...Laffin
PPS
Big Jim,
Here’s a song for you to sing while slapping that 410 around the Hi-Line
I think we all eventually get the beetus...Late onset and all that other fun stuff the doc tells you they discovered while scoping your ass for pullups.
I was lucky enough to find some "Rio" for my Mossberg, a few years back (Sportsman's whorehouse??? ) but haven't tried it on game yet. At the time it was the most reasonably priced of the outrageously priced ammo available.

Got some Rio 12 gauge #4 buckshot. Sschiit won't even pop through on a 30 year old burn barrel. I still hope to knot up some kind of furry or feathered critter with it tho.

Well that kinda sucks.
Them burn barrels is tough I heard.
Heat treating every burn I bet!
OH, have you tried the Hornady Critical Defense .410 on those burn barrels? A .41 cal FTX slug and two .35 cal round balls? I shot that at paper at 25yds and I figured I'd rather be on the end carrying the .410 than on the other. Whether it penetrated a burn barrel or not, it would likely hurt a mite.

Winchester T22 target loads poke through it from 25sh yards from a 4 5/8" Single Six.
.223 will shoot all the way thru both sides of a Toyota Sienna mini van.
Lil dude came down said “hey shoot my van, it’ll look cool”
My friend Alan, dumped a 20 round mag down the side of it. LOL
I think he probably only thought a couple holes. Was a miscommunication.
We've all been there brother. Then there is the quick exit after the miscommo. How it goes.
Used to party on top of a mountain on Memorial Day every year. Friends '56 Caddy went home with a blown out back window and buckshot and pistol round holes in the sides. It was a cool party barge.
Geno be showin up in his black members only jacket
Wtf Geno
😃
I don't even know what that means?
And no, I don't go to no 'hoods that distinguish a person's affiliation by the color of their bandana. We don't allow that kinda stuff here in the Outback.
That's a cool look on you Geno. With that outfit, you're ready to visit the COVID ward or knock off the stop-and-rob. Versatile and not in the way Bobbi Brown thinks.

I got a savage 24 22/410 I like to carry for squirrel outings but have the same in the 20 ga version that works far better and cheaper so that’s what goes most times
