Some people call that road flare a smudge pot...but as I understand it, a smudge pot is a large diesel burning device used in orchards to prevent frost damage to the buds.
Ate many a breakfast, lunch and dinner cooked on one just like that when I was a kid. My dad liked to camp, fish, fish some more, eat a little, fish some more...clean fish then eat dinner. That brings back some very pleasant memories. Thank you!
Have my late 70's Coleman stove put up with extra NIB pump assbly. and regulator along with a can of Coleman fuel. It's a dual fuel so I guess I could run unleaded in it in a pinch.
In an effort to fool Darwin, I've repaired a lot of vintage fuel tanks, mostly on military vehicles......if you file that glob of solder down, locate the pinhole, tin a penny or a strip of flattened brass cartridge case with 60/40 acid core, and put the penny/strip over the hole or seam and then apply the heat with an old school soldering iron, no open flame, you will get a good strong job. Last thing you want is a pressurized tank of fuel splitting open just before breakfast. Silver solder, you're looking at 700 deg's...plain ol' 60/40 at 450 or so.
Sucks I'm so old I remember seeing those road flares in use.
Haha. Me too.
Every now and again one of the maintenance sections would come up with one from out in their shop area. I well remember them too!! And the old wooden 6-8” dia. silver painted with black band at the top delineator posts! They had a silver reflector in the black band. They weren’t too crashworthy. 🤣🤣🤣
Got to thinking. Bad thing. Do they still use those old smugde pots at the rifle range? Like we did in boot camp? We used em to blacken the front sight on our rifles while at practice and qualification.
That propane converter is a game changer. All my white fuel Coleman stuff needs clog repair, generators etc. Most found these days that have been idle, will need attention
Various propane adapters are available, filling the little camping bottles from grill tanks or bigger is now easy & a lot cheaper per gallon.

What's a reasonable price for those things? I have 4 that I never use (1's missing the wick). With the price of oil, it's cheaper to let the trees freeze and just buy fruit.
Just a few days ago I saw several of those for sale on Craigslist in Tucson. They were asking $150.00 each. I thought it was high. Don't know if they sold or not. Maybe that will help.

at matches we all used carbide miner's lamps. Open the reservoir, spit on the carbide, close it, and stare a spark like a cigarette lighter. Later they came out with a spray can of black stuff but it wasn't as black.
If you can find them for a good deal, the old metal porch gliders from the 50s and 60s are worth a fortune to the right people. We had strangers knock on our door and try to buy ours. We got scared somebody would steal the damn thing and put it in the basement. Ours isn't even in great shape.

Paid over twice what it cost today.......Brand NEW. That pawn shop is glad he got a good donation today. He probably has a stolen rifle for 3x the price too. 😄

Those lanterns are great. Good memories. Can you still get mantles?

A Coleman 426A Stove and a Deitz no. 80 highway flare.
I used to have one of those (stove) around here somewhere. I remember scalding turkeys over it about twenty-five years ago. But don't have a clue where it went.
Instead, I recently purchased a Camp Chef style propane stove for mixing lead alloys. I don't know if the Coleman would have produced the BTUs to hold a CI dutch oven with 100# of alloy at 750 degrees.

Probably not.
I have a bunch of kidney fat I need to render into tallow.

Maybe back in 1950. Today he could not touch that stove new at twice what he paid. Used prices are driven by local markets and even then, the lows can often be sporadic. Said another way, one might wait a long time to see a low price and they tend to get snatched up quickly.
Walmart shows their Dual Fuel Guide Series two burner for over $200.
I have a Coleman 425 two burner I've gotten use out of for several decades. On occasion it would be nice to have that third burner, but it comes at a cost of decreased table/tailgate space. Coleman still shows the Liquid Fuel Stove (white gas only) with the red tank but it seems like stores only carry the gray tank Dual Fuel stove anymore.

I is rich. 3 two burners, 2 3 burners, 2 flares, single mantle lantern. AND a coleman kerosene lantern
What is a flare?
Kerosene is cool. Whale oil is better. LOL First year of my marriage my wife and I used nothing but kerosene lamps, wood stove and an outside water pump powered by a Briggs and Stratton.
Didn't know they made dual fuel back then. Does the dual fuel burn gasoline cleanly? I've never used one but suspect it's better to run white gas for less soot buildup.

It's a very late 70's[hell possibly very early 80's now that I think more about it]. I've never used anything but white gas in it.

This from a guy who glues fabric to his car, cuts up old suits for camo, and has to ask God for a socket set. Crappy, have you ever had two dimes to rub together?

mantles for lanterns are a lot easier to find than generators (for lanterns or stoves) IME
Just went and looked in the garage, I have 5 of the large 2 burner and 3 small 2 burner. Up in the mountains I have a 3 burner like the 1 pictures and 1 each of the 2 burner. They are 60s/70s with the red tanks.
This is after selling 2 3 burners and about 6 of the 2 burners last year, after the wife no more... I sold them for 20 and 30 bucks, all tanks worked.
That older tank is from the 50s.
Mostly I run them off propane, converter with hose and tank, I will run them off white gas for the nostalgia occasionally.
First one I got for myself I found a 2 burner/large in a pile of junk behind my grandparents house, the tank was no good, I bought a converter for 10 bucks and painted it army green... 1978. Used it for many years, still have it.

That sounds very handy and convenient.
I don't like either of those things.
Sounds like a younger friend of mine. He'll step over a dollar to pick up a dime..... only if the dime will make it harder on him.

That is a lot of stoves. I guess you just like stoves, eh?

I think it is same one used on the propane lanterns. However I have a bunch of them.
