Why did DAC spend the summertime cuttin' up logs for the winter if they had a coal-burning stove - no natural gas? Did they have a firewood bidness on the side?
Also, if the old man worked on the neighbor's cars and sold tires for a dollar or two, cash, & they presumably had enough money to buy coal for the coal-burning stove, why didn't they purchase a tube of silicone & seal those 50 holes in the old tin roof?
Did the older sister - the one that's a first-rate whore - contribute anything to the family & if not why? Was it b/c Dad got violent and he knows it or is it b/c she had a drug habit & needed the cash for more drugs?

1. Coal was for the cooking stove. 2. No firewood bidness....it was for the winter....since the coal was for the cooking stove. 3. The $ from tires and working on neighbor's cars was for Pearl in a can, Jack Daniels Black, and Mail Pouch tobacco. None was left for silicone.
Probably b/c she got tired of helpin' the old man and having blood flow from her calloused hands. She very likely hauled off and walloped the old man upside his haid, but I cannot say for sure.

She didn't contribute simply because Dad said she can't come home no more. Pay attention...and quit with the deep thoughts chit.....

These answers are entirely plausible.

Old colored ppl around here paint tree trunks white to keep the haints out.
Bury a tire 1/2 in the ground. Paint it white too.
Well dang, I never knew that about the tires.
Folks down in Mexico be pretty safe from them then. They line their driveways with half buried tires painted white. Good visibility at night and keeps away the ancestors. Not a bad deal.

Painting the porch ceiling sky blue is supposed to keep chimney sweeps from building nest there. I grew up burning firewood in a coal burning stove. It was supplemental to the coal. My grandparents would buy a load of coal every few years but usually burned wood. Rick
A lot of people get confused about that. They're not related, with the exception of their own 6 degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon (aka "Bacon's Law"). That confusion is also often attributed to the fact that David Alan Coe sang "The Ride" and Edgar Alan Poe sang "The Raven" It's a simple mistake a lot of people make.

LOL ! “The Ride” is one of my favorite David Allen Coe tunes:
Another question that occurred to me is why he didn't buy a pair of gloves for Mama, since she's old far beyond her time from choppin' tobacco and he seen her cryin' when blood flowed from her calloused hand and it hurt him.
As I stated before, they had some money from sellin' used parts to make ends meet, eggs at the grocery store, tires for a dollar or two, cash, and from fixin' the neighbors cars.
I don't buy the argument that he spent it all on mail pouch tobacco (since they grew tobacco), Pearl in a can and Jack Daniels Black, unless, of course, the Old Man was a world-class drunk... But then, if he was such a prolific drunk, how could he fix the neighbors cars?
The worst concert I've ever been to was DAC, sometime around '00 or '01 at the Georgia Theater. I swear it must have been 85* near the stage, he showed up an hour late, and looked like a straight bridge troll...he was almost completely unrecognizable. He then proceeded to play for a maybe an hour or so, and never once played a song I'd ever heard (at that point, I had most of his older albums). It was a complete letdown.
Best concert I’ve ever been to was DAC in a dive bar in Athens OH in 98 ish. Saw him again at a way bigger bar in Huntington WV in 00ish. Was badass too
