I just bought one for my 6mm. I know some of you guys don’t like , but I do. I’ve got one on my Whelen. Now I’ve got one on my 6 mm.
I like em..., (W/stainless) With a blue rifle, not so much.
I love mine and would never sell it.
A SS model in 7RM was the first gun I bought at 18. $389 and more accurate with corelokt’s than it ought to be. Kicked like a mule though so after about 5yrs I had a decelerator put on it and Anser Rifles added a threaded brake. Not sure with mods if it would sell for the current market rate but sure a more pleasant gun to shoot!
One afternoon at the Paddle Boat Hut ...
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
"Come in mumber 9 - Your time is up!"
"Umm... We only have 8 paddle boats."
"Number 6 - Are you experiencing difficulties?"
i used to hate them. then about the time i started liking them the price went way up. they were giving those things away for a while.
I remember seeing them all lined up at the local gun store....A whole bunch... all black and stainless with tags hanging on them...
If I remember right... the reason there were so many on the gun rack was because nobody wanted them... The were undesired and down right ugly.
I got a .22 mag boat paddle in stainless when the price on it finally got low enough.
My goodness, best money I ever spent. I love that ugly gun....
It's the prefect gun for Alaska... you would think every one up there would own two...

Which configuration is your 6mm?

Think zytel. . . .
or the Lewis and Clark expedition. . . .
or the Lawrence Welk band. . . .
Whatever you can wrap your mind around. . . .
I painted my boat paddle.
I've used them for years. In Alaska the weather and use can be hard on rifles. I just don't think you can get any better. Mine have served me well. I just don't really have a desire for anything different. I would like to get a Zytel stock in good condition for a 300 Win Mag, to change out the stock on my sons rifle. I can even trade them for a S/A Zytel stock, which seem to be hard to come by. PM me if you do.
You coulda improved it more with a rebore to ,257
An ex Bud of mine - the one I went to AK with back in the early 90's - had a Boat Paddle in .338 he used in his guiding operation.

Exactly
I have a 50th anniversary model in the great 264 win mag , I will die with it, in my mind it is the perfect all around rifle.
worst stock ever made. kick like a mule

You forgot the oem rock hard recoil pad and terrible sling setup. There's also no way to shorten lop. On the .308 I own the pad was replaced by a limbsaver. Adding regular swivel studs was easy enough. Since the stock fits me well the new pad made the rifle pleasant to shoot. It's been my primary rifle for 20+years
Gifted one to a nephew last year..260, he ain't much for maintaining stuff. Perfect for him.

Geuss I should read thru a thread 1st completely beforehand......
I was really tempted to reply hastily in the Hero's of the campfire thread the other day, and say slumlord is my campfire hero and one of the good guys.

Dunno....
Depends on the meaning of paddle I geuss???
🥴😄😄😄
Have 3 in heavy calibers, 338, 300 and 7 mag. Have not seen one for sale in a long time. They becoming a rare find.
it would seem like they would hurt the face in a heavy recoiling gun. kind of thin on the top. i bought an All Weather (boat paddle) 22 for my son that someone had replaced the stock with walnut. i liked the look of SS and walnut. then i found a zytel with the green inserts for a 22 to convert it back. apparently the green inserts are highly desirable. they made green, brown and black IIRC. anyway the stock is still in my pile because my son didn't like the looks. if anyone wants to trade a SA zytel for a 22 zytel with green inserts, let me know. i would convert one of my frontier scout rifles.

It’s for the .257 improved. (6mm Remington). You know that 😁😁😁

Interesting. I have 3 heavy calibers too. .416, .45-70 and .50. The first is my truck gun. Stops them cold with one shot. #2 is for dealing with irritating neighbors and other pests. Not certain at this point but I might call the .50 my convoy cannon.
They don’t have plastic stocks.
I always kinda liked them. I remember my uncle had one in 3006 when I was a kid. Up until then; I don't remember seeing a synthetic/stainless rifle. It was the first one I had seen or remember seeing. I thought it was the coolest/ugliest thing ever. I now have one in a .300WM; I don't find it to be any more uncomfortable to shoot than any other .300 I've sat down behind. I'd like to find one in 7.62x39 one day.
This.
Life is too short to hunt with an ugly gun.

The 7.62x39 would be my choice too. (They're not ugly to everyone Jag.)
Still hanging on to a .223 and a 243 RSS. I did slip the 243 into a Walnut Hawkeye stock. Just feels better to me. Not to worry, boat paddle stock is still here!

“I put gun in different stock.”
Oh cool.
Thanks for sharing.

I wouldn't go quite that far. But will say the zytel stock from my 260 was sold on this forum. The barrelled action was sent to Ruger and a coffee color laminate installed.
My son, loves the Zyytel stock on his 260.

You’re beholden to stupid.
Peace of mind when dragging it in the woods. Keep the pretty stock for looking at.
I’ve owned a bunch of them. Got it whittled down to a .22, .30-06, .300 Win Mag and a .35 Whelen.
My son found the .30-06 recoil a bit much so it sits in an HS which did settle it down. I don’t find the recoil on the .300 to be bad but the previous owner installed a decelerator pad and I don’t shoot prairie dogs with it. The Whelen can be a bit sporty with full house 250s.
Great utilitarian stocks that can take a lot of abuse.
I believe Ruger Boat Paddle stocks are made of:
So, all you guys are .............................................PADDLERS !
