Had a CB radio in a work truck - sang ''boy named sue'' [put my heart into it] to get the local dump-truck drivers in a better mood seemed to have the opposite effect .
I can not, do either, though I was in a singing group in 4H as a kid. Growing up on a farm there was not a lot of time for non work activities. And when there was spare time, I was hunting or fishing. I wish I could play a guitar.
I led the choir in Church for a few years, and sang specials (solos) for a lot of years. I play the guitar to accompany myself. The semi-tone deaf seem to think I can sing. I get by. Played and sang in a rockabilly band before I got saved. The people were mostly drunk, and sometimes I was too.
Not accomplished at either, but I entertain myself now.
My two daughters made four music CD's with gospel music. Both are excellent singers. One plays the piano and guitar, and the other plays the piano and the fiddle. Grown up and gone from home, and took their music with them. They were very good!
When I was about ten, I could play “chopsticks” on the piano. 😊 Given a little time, I could probably figure out how to do it again. My older sister taught me and she still plays the piano well. My 8 year old grand daughter is taking lessons and plays pretty well already. She and my sister show off by playing together sometimes.
I play some guitar, banjo, and fiddle. Played in a couple country/folk/bluegrass groups over the years (the music genre being Waylon, Willie, Merle Haggard, Bellamy Brothers and others of that generation) and sang in some choirs, large and small, mostly as Baritone or Bass. For choir singing I like baroque and early classical: Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, etc. but have done some modern stuff as well.
That said I claim no talent at all, just a desire to sound the best I can especially when it comes to worship.
Got away from it for a couple decades with overseas living, career, kids etc. but try to keep it up. Within arms reach from where I sit now are two guitars and two banjos, and I'll pick them up often and wring out a few cords or a snippet of a song.
I've composed some as well. Just simple country songs.
Lately I've been listening to a capella groups like "Home Free" and been thinking that might be a good way to actively engage in music with others, if only I could find a group nearby. I'm sure they are out there, nearby even, just need to go looking.
Was in choir & swing choir back in high school. Was ok in groups, not worth a crap solo. Not worth a crap in in any capacity anymore. Bought a guitar about 11 months ago and trying to teach myself to play.
Wife sings, plays piano, flute, guitar; older boy plays cello and trombone and mandolin; younger boy plays piano, bassoon, saxophone, mellophone and percussion; I listen

Awesome. You done good, my man! I've had mixed success with my progeny.
In my teens/twenties played guitar and five string well enough to make good money. Didn’t like the musician hours and decided I would be an alcoholic before I would possibly move into the big time. Still play mostly guitar for myself and the occasional gig.
Struggle with tuning a radio, can't read music. Would like to play guitar, carpal tunnel disagrees.
Been told I sing well as church, ask to join choir. "Not a chance" stopped that nonsense.
However, a family friend that's really good to my daughter ask me to sing in the choir at the Christmas thing. My wife was laughing, and encouraging me to. She hates attention almost as much as I, so..."I will if you do".
Son of a beech, she piped right up and agreed!
Kinda worried. I love to sing in private, and get into it a bit much. (Been told the neighbors hear me over the mower)
I really do not want to be heard over the choir. I'm loud, not good.
I come from a family that has a lot of musical talent (not counting me) but I can tell if somebody is singing off key or is playing an instrument that's out of tune.
Cant sing. Have guitars, 12 string, spanish, nylon string, banjo, violin. Can't play hardly tall. Thinking of not playing mandolin too if I find one. And I really like dobros.
Given a choice on going down and plunking away or reading crap on this phone guess which wins?
Sang in church choir, was lead singer for high school stage band, did a lot of friends wedding back in the day, now get asked to do funerals. Had a group for a while in college, decent I guess.
Both. My undergrad degree is in music education, saxophone emphasis. Could have double-majored in vocal as well, but I don't like the drama most throats bring to the able. I prefer and play Selmer saxophones, hence my handle here at the 'fire.
The quality of my singing and guitar playing is directly related to how much alcohol my listeners have consumed! After a Sunday afternoon of playing music, a gentleman offered to pay my way to Nashville for tryouts. He was exceedingly drunk, I was very appreciative..... as pleasantly as possible I explained to him that tomorrow I would not sound nearly as good! 😁 memtb
The wife and I both play guitar and sing. Just to each other now, we were in a band together when we were young, which led to getting hitched. 47th anniversary coming up in a week.

Lol...that's how I feel. I probably could have learned to sing if I could ever remember lyrics...but I can't. How can someone try to play instruments really hard for 40 years and still suck?
I can, but don't anymore. My hearing is darn bad. I sang professionally for around 35 years. Also played trumpet (poorly)...I really do miss it sometimes.

My father played trumpet as a young guy…before my time. My grandmother used to tell how he was always trying to get her to come listen to his band play at a local roadhouse with a colorful reputation. She finally did, but saw a guy get his head busted open with a beer bottle so never went back
I dabble on the acoustic guitar (ie I know chords and just pick around).
Would like to get a Tele and a phaser....Waylon twang.
Tabs.
Ultimate guitar used to be a good site 20 yrs ago When some dude has EDU in his info, you know its on the money.....iron maiden tabs by music academic types in south amercia an example
Yes. I've played guitar for over 40 years. I also play drums, bass, mandolin, ukulele, some piano/organ and a little banjo. I got a house full of instruments and gear, and a jam room with a P.A.
I can’t sing, I ain’t pretty and my legs are thin, but don’t ask me what I think of you. I might not give the answer that you want me too!!! “ Oh Well”. My favorite Fleetwood Mac song.
I've played bass for 40+ years, mainly at local bars. Classic rock, blues, 90's alt and grunge. Not a lead singer but I'm decent at backing harmonies. Rarely play out anymore, so I just play acoustic at home.
Takes a lot of hours to be good and a lifetime to master, Have been playing bass for 50 years and have a dozen or so basses and 4 amp rigs as I am still active in a band.
