I prefer scotch by a large margin. Folks on here know my tastes run towards the bottom shelf. My all-time favorite is Scoresby. For someone with attenuated taste, this varnish remover/industrial solvent has a honey-like finish.
Bourbon. I've had a scotch from time to time along the pathway of life and rarely enjoyed any of them. I've rarely not enjoyed a bourbon, and to each his own.
Taste is a peculiar thing. Lifes too short to not enjoy your own personal drink of choice.
I like all of it, it just depends on the day. Bourbon, Scotch and Rye all neat and in no particular order. Irish would be last as it just doesn't have much of a flavor profile.

What Irish whisky have you tried?
Had the pleasure of spending time in Ireland with the guy that wrote the book on tasting Irish whiskey. Had access to his personal stash. It was some amazing stuff! There are a lot of incredible Irish whiskeys but they never leave Ireland.
Jameson makes a huge range of ultra high-end whiskeys all the time. They make a series named for former presidents... Hyde #6 is one I tried that will rival about anything.

Agreed. Get away from the average Jameson blend behind the bar and Jameson is a great whiskey product.

What Irish whisky have you tried?
Jameson (several varieties) Redbreast, Tullamore Dew, Bushmills, Kilbeggan, Green Spot, Teeling, Writer's Tears...off the top of my head.

Well, if Redbreast and Green Spot don't suit then Irish isn't for you. Is it safe to assume you didn't pollute them with ice?
Bourbon, by a long margin. But I like Scotch, Irish and Japanese whisky as well. Even rye is good every now and then. You can keep the Canadian stuff though.

I like your attitude! I just wish I could develop the same. My tastes get too expensive at times.
I can't handle any corn whiskey, after a near-death experience in my very early 20s. The mere smell will have me hurling. Scotch has such a varied palate it's impossible for me to say. So much variation. The ones I have enjoyed tend to be high priced; to me, decent mescal is as enjoyable and with at least as varied nuances. I prefer rye whiskey over either bourbon or scotch for just relaxing.
Same here. I've also started dabbling in and taking a liking to ryes.

I pretty much have the same opinion on all the Canadian whisky I've swilled down over the years. But someone on another whiskey thread here recommended giving 40 Creek a try. I haven't had a chance to get my hands on a bottle yet so, I'm still open to finding a good Canadian.
Bourbon, with Wild Turkey Rare Breed being my favorite. It has been unobtanium in central Ohio for a month or so. My friend just gave me a fifth of Four Roses Single Barrel this morning for a Christmas present.

Man, there is just too much ground to cover when doing the bourbon vs Scotch thing. Especially on the Scotch side where the various types of Scotch are so different from each other.

The one and only bottle of Pappy I've purchased was around 12 years ago. I think it was a bottle of 10y/o and was 1/2 the price of 18y/o Glenmorangie, at that time, which is my goto 18y/o Scotch. I can rarely find Buffalo Trace in my parts, much less Blanton's or Pappy.
Larceny is my recent favorite. It is also a wheated bourbon like Pappy, just from a different distillery. In my opinion it is the best "cheap" bourbon option. Although I've also grown fond of Ezra Brooks too.
Bro Jud, I need to try some Four Roses Small Batch. Regular 4R nothing special. My taste buds were underwhelmed by the Basil Hayden but lots of folks like it.
I like Macallan scotch and have a bottle of 25 yo given to me at retirement 7 years ago. Waiting for that really big bull to crack it open!
Bourbon. Though my cigar store guy has been giving me samples of high dollar scotch that you can't buy here and they are surprisingly good. He's in some sort of scotch club in Scotland. The bottles go from $150-400 a bottle. Good stuff! I'll never buy it! Bourbon is the King!
#1 Good Bourbon on the rocks #2 Blended Whiskey with mixers # tie for 3 & 4 with Irish Whiskey and Rye # 5 Scotch. It’s not that I don’t like Scotch, I just really prefer very good Bourbon over all else, so it gets picked first
*due to Ranch Water becoming a personal favorite this past summer, good Tequila (Anjeo and Resposado) have been coming on strong recently
My buddy bought me the bottle of Four Roses small batch and I was drinking some the other night and telling my wife how good it is. She went to Kroger (Grocery store) the next day to do some grocery shopping and bought me another bottle to enjoy during the holidays. Lord I love that woman!
I'm on the backside of a mild case of the Rona and all bourbon tastes like liquid black pepper. Luckily I still get honey and fruit from speyside scotch and light Irish whiskeys. Having a generous pour of Quiet Man 8 tonight.
I put out two Jack Daniels packages with a fifth and two Spurs tumblers in each for the trash pick up guys this AM. They replied with a long honk from the truck.
