We had this kind of countertop in the cabin.
Anyone know anything about it?
looks like brushed aluminum or stainless steel
Rem, the edges are shiny, the flat black is what I'm wondering about.
It's too soft to be metal.
Not a hard surface.
I'm thinking it was in common use at one time.
oh it looked like metal. i think i know what you are talking about, not sure of the name. some kind of masonite-like sheeting with a hard coating. 50's era.
Years back, I watched a piece on making linoleum.
They skimmed of the skin off the top of huge vats of linseed oil, ground it, and pressed, and baked it.
Phenolic Resin. Sometimes referred to as Bakelite. Came in sheets, pre cursor to Formica.
AhHa! That may be it! Thanks Swifty!
Bakelite/phenolic resin sheets. It was most commonly used in school labs but also home countertops.
