Rem, the edges are shiny, the flat black is what I'm wondering about.
It's too soft to be metal.

Well we're Green and we're Gold, and we play better when it's cold. All us Cheese heads have our favorite superstar. We love Brett Favre.

Not a hard surface.
I'm thinking it was in common use at one time.

Years back, I watched a piece on making linoleum.
They skimmed of the skin off the top of huge vats of linseed oil, ground it, and pressed, and baked it.

Bakelite/phenolic resin sheets. It was most commonly used in school labs but also home countertops.
