After seeing mjbgalt's thread about his dog Sidney passing away it put me to thinking about some I have had over the years and had to say goodbye to. So here are two. The lab, Drake was 15 and just finally gave out. He had an active life up until his last month and I had to have him put down. We made many trips to South Dakota pheasant hunting. He was everyone's favorite out of our hunting group. If you didn't watch him he'd steal your sandwich right out of your hand. Some of the best days of my life were spent with him.

The beagle, Joe died 2 years ago this coming July 7th. Drake was the year before on April 13th. Joe was 10 when he died. He was the boss around the house even though Drake had 45 pounds on him. In this picture they chased a cat up the tree. You'd have thought they were coondogs the way they were treeing and barking. Joe died from a tumor that grew back after 3 years before having had surgery to remove it. Both Joe and Drake were rescue dogs. Man I miss them!

For me life just isn't the same without a dog around so we have a new beagle. He'll be 2 May 1st. He came along after Joe died by about a month. He is right here with me as I write this post. He's got allot of personality! Toby is his name. The grandkids named him. Of course he's their boss!

Was mentioned. Best dog we ever had, and we've had a few good ones.

We lost our sixteen year old Cocker four years ago. Debated getting another. Decided on two. Ruby on the left, Jade on the right.

I've heard several here refer to "life time" dogs.... and I got to thinking about that. I thought my old yellow lab, Dusty was it. But now I have a new lifetime dog , Timber, my Akita
So can we have two lifetime dogs? I think so..... smile

I just haven't been able to squeak a dog into my life, being single and working long hours and other reasons. Just hated the thought of leaving them alone all day.

I found this video funny so I'm throwing it in here, It's a crazy guy I guess, says he paid $50 for this little registered dog and won't get any bigger and it loves Big Mac sammich's

The blue is lean and lanky and can run, jump and spin like nothing I have ever seen. They really have brought a new life to us.

Youngest red boy (Cooper) is eighteen months and weighs 62 pounds. Big boy for an ACD.

Blue female (Tess) is 52 pounds and she's over weight.

[Linked Image from i.vgy.me]

This was my favorite. Jojo. She was super cold nosed, had a deep baritone voice and a great disposition. She would really grind on a track. When this pic was taken she had been treed for over 5+ hours waiting on a bunch of fat guys (me and my buddies) to make it over the mountain.

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

I liked her enough she won an all expenses paid trip to the Chinese Wall.

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

She died unexpectedly last year at just under 5 years old. I almost got out of hounds when she died.

Her brother (Sarge) and her were awesome together. He isn’t near as good now that she is gone. He relied on her more then I thought. He seemed kinda depressed for a while. Here he is on the right with my pup (Crash) singing a duet.

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

My new favorite is Copper. I started him as a pup, sold him, regretted it and just got him back. He has a great nose, a lot of energy and zero quit. Here he is helping an old man shoot a bobcat with a Canon a couple months ago.

I'll just cover the ones we've had, I'll not dive back in to the mom & pop legacy, that would exceed the pic limit...

Our first two, Mox (GSD/Rottie mix) and Azhia GSD/Border Collie mix), circa 2000 where we lived in LaMaddalena, Italy. They were 11 & 12 by then, one (Mox) stayed there, in the rocky soil of the Med.

Nice! Those German King Shepherds can get huge - I read up to 150lbs.

This is Abby, she is going to be 10 n a couple of months...She is my second Toller, I have to dig out images of my first, Maggie.
I am just waiting on the word from Abby's breeder about another pup, coming into heat anytime she says.

How's the beard?

Glad to hear that.....................aging ain't necessarily a bad thing............compared to the alternative.

Beard is getting near to trimming time.

Pulled down taught from the chin, it reads about 7.5" on the measuring stick. Just hanging there doing its thing, maybe 6.75"???

Lookin' a bit scraggly, so I figure to cut it back to about 4" or so for the summer.
Something doesn't seem right in this picture - can't quite put my finger on it.

Along these lines, I popped this copperhead last night, right in front of my dad's house. His four dogs did not need to find it and get bitten.

Cool pic!
Jim,

I haven't had a dog since I bought a digital camera, but it looked like this. A very intelligent breed.

You had some good friends.
Bet those dogs could hunt.

This breed likes to snowboard. Lol!

Hopefully you had one waiting at home after your scheidty day.

That's as good a reason for dogs to exist as any.

No, just an e-collar. Helps when running blinds. He's gotten better with age, but he's hard headed and sometimes doesn't like to listen to my handles.
thanks for reply.

Nice shot. Do you find your Tollers seem to enjoy upland a bit more than waterfowl?

Finn likes both but really kicks it up a notch when we are hunting upland. I noticed this with our previous 4 as well. This shot was from his morning run at a pheasant festival. My buddies GSP had the afternoon and had identical results.

You gentlemen have had some fine looking dogs. There is an old Remington ad that states "Every man deserves one good dog in his life and I have had mine. The ranch just isn't the same without a dog here but I have buried more than my fair share and don't care to repeat that pain. Kudo's to you gentlemen.

These were two of my best....the shorthair "Annie" was the best of them all... she made it to about 12. The wire hair "Gus" was a big dumb lover boy but probably had the best natural abilities of any gun dog I've ever had.

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

Now I have this Rat Terrier/Jack Russell mix female that is my baby.... she is right up there with Annie as far as being a strait up companion.... she goes damn near everywhere with us.....deer hunting she only ranges about 50 yards and just pokes around in the brush....super intense but calm and focused at the same time..... I can't tell you how many bucks she has busted out of there hide outs lol. She is a blast.

Mostly just a bunch of pictures of dogs you can buy at any dog store or kennel.

This is a real nice dog, he can watch 2 different flocks of birds at the same time and doesn't eat much. Sparky has been a life long companion and beats all the pure breads hollow...

Neighbor had one pretty close to that, throttled by a car in days past. Our heelers came from two different ranches in north Texas, $300 a pop. Great dogs.
I lost my best friend Tess a week ago Friday. Poor girl had cancer and chemo therapy wasn't an option. We brought her home to be comfortable and Friday night were woke up by her thrashing, tongue hanging out between her teeth and very heavy breathing. Poor girl, we loved her and she loved us. RIP Tess, my sweet girl.

Nice looking dog!

Sad 4 your loss.
I have Tess's twin brother( except he likes to eat may more that Tess). First Heeler I've owned and don't know as I'll own any other breed from here on out. Best dog I've ever had, goes everywhere with me, I know it'll be a tough time if I manage to outlive him.
Sorry for your loss.

I keep my dog in the back seat of the truck.

If in the front seat and an air bag deploys, I doubt a dog would survive that event.

Cute smile. RIP Bernard.

BTW, that 16/4/7 was how long we had him. He was rumored to already be a year old when we got him.
The black ones are easier to keep track of in the winter. Then we have to keep them in the shade all summer.😎

Ha, ha, soon as we get them, I'll post them.

Might be an argument, about who is picking Izzy up tonight.

She does "daycare" at the breeders kennel.

Can't lock her up for 10 hours, at home, needs company & mucho physical exertion.
