A long time custom in many African countries is coming to a head. When a farmer dies, his land is divided between his sons. Obviously, each son gets less land than Dad had and large families exaggerate the problem . Over time, many farms are now down to under 5 acres. That will barely sustain 1 small family. The next generation is in real trouble. A tiny farm like that can't pay for new equipment so hand labor is the only way they can work the ground. It will only feed the family, there's nothing left to sell. That also means that the city people have nothing available to buy.
Add that to the biggest problem of over breeding.

Africa could be the world's leader in ag products, but when you have children running governments, the superpowers exploiting them, and a workforce best described as lazy there ain't much hope the trend will reverse itself anytime soon.
What will be entertaining to watch unfold is for a couple of billion Africans suddenly deciding they want cars and electricity. So much for curbing global green house gas emissions. I suppose the northern hemisphere can tell the southern hemisphere to pound sand.

Everything that was left, is in ruins. Reminders of what a great place it must of been, are crumbling everywhere......huge silos, old manufacturing plants, plantations, train rails.....all destroyed. Nobody working. Just sitting around their huts (the walls of the huts are made from the bricks of the silos, they tore down), waiting on the next handout....and making babies.

Africa has the same problem as the US - plenty of water but in the wrong places. We have lots of farmable land in the west but all the excess water's in the east. Africa might have lots of good land north and south but all the water is central. Until someone can figure out how to cheaply transport huge volumes of water over long distances, it can't be resolved.

I have seen where they checked back on kids who were fed by World Aid back in the 80s (Bob Geldorf) and they now have seven kids themselves, all raised and supported by international aid......we are going to have to cut off the free lunch, and get the population down to a level they can sustain themselves.

True enough. We use technology (agriculture, medicine, etc) to keep increasing carrying capacity. Eventually the machine breaks and all of that artificial increase vanishes overnight. Malthus can only be denied just so long .. catch up time is coming. Hope I'm dead first 'cause it's going to be a kind of ugly our species has never seen on a worldwide scale.

By and large, Africa is farming about as much of its land as it can manage right now with the aid of modern technology.
Take that technology away, like fertilizer and words ending in “-icide” and all of a sudden there’s ALOT less farmable ground in Africa.

Worked with a man that got booted off his family's
ancestral farm that grew many crops and hundreds
of different heads of livestock, and the government
there took everything and gave it to the natives.
All the people he employed all lost their income and
housing, and the people that the land was given to
over grazed it and cut all the trees for wood and it's
all but desert now instead of a productive farm
supporting many people.
My folks were good friends with a family that were
missionaries in SA and rhodesia that finally had to
leave and come back to the US because things got
so bad with all the murders and kidnappings and rape.
