...riding in a gold ford pinto, headed south on Broadway in Littleton CO to help a man from Scotland paint the inside of a womans house. Poor thing was bawlin' her eyes out having heard of Elvis' passing.
Riding along on Highway 51 between Memphis and Millington with a buddy who had a car, and oddly enough only a couple of miles from Graceland. We got wasted.
Was working in a [bleep] little factory, hot in there was sposed to work 2 hrs OT. forman came running through the plant screaming the king is dead the king is dead shift ends in 10 minutes everybody go home didn't know I thought King England or something went home thought about it went looking for a new job the next day never went back.
I was in the Airforce, stationed in the U.K. Had spent the two prior days on ground alert, flew an eight hour Silk Purse mission that day. Get home, walk in the door to find my wife all teary-eyed. I'm thinking either she had a rough time while I was gone with our 18 month old daughter or she got a call from home delivering bad news. I ask her what's wrong, she says Elvis died. I'm roling on the floor laughing my a$$ of asking her if she's frekin serious.
I still remind her and everyone else about that day... 🤣
The old lady next door ran out of her house yelling at me as I working in the garden. I thought her old man had keeled over dead, but it was Elvis. Scared me half to death.
At work at our local gun shop. Owner was a monster Elvis fan. His wife called me there and asked me to break the news to him before he saw it on the news.
My dad was a company commander on the same post where Elvis was stationed. My dad was friends with Elvis's CO. Dad said that while Elvis was there, Elvis was a very well regarded soldier. He did his job. He didn't live off his fame. He lived off his soldier's pay. He borrowed money to get by like other soldiers. And when he left to go into a special services unit, he went around and paid everyone to whom he owed money. Only later did he get some privileges and live off post in a rented house.
My mom asked Elvis if he would come to her officers wives club. Mom said he said, "Well ma'am, I can't do that. If I did that for your club I would have to do it for all the others." I can imagine him saying that in his Elvis voice.
BTW, when I was younger, my mom sent her original photo out for copies. The copies came back but someone stole the original.
Mom was a huge fan so heard it around the house. His music and his contribution to music hasn’t aged well. No real redeeming value to him or his music that I can see.
The restaurant is for people who Love Meat Tender.
😁😅😅🤣🤣🤣🙄
I used to sing my rendition of the chorus to Kentucky Rain to my wife when I was in the shower. She'd yell at me to shut the puck up, I'm scaring the kids... 😁
I got a ticket from the sob a few years ago in Frost Texas for “exhibition of acceleration “ but the judge threw it out because he miss spelled both words. After that things went down hill for the old boy. A jealous husband caught him in bed with his wife and dam near killed him. Put him in the hospital. Heard he retired.
I was 17 working in a grocery store after school. When I got to work that day, all the old lady cashiers were crying. Asked them what happened, they said “the King was dead”
My Mom was a huge Elvis fan. The year before, in 1976, I took Mom to see Elvis perform at our local coliseum for her 37th Birthday. Hell of show! Of course, he was fat Elvis at that point. Just one year before he died. Mom had also seen him perform at that same City Coliseum when she was in High School in 1957. She said he drove his pink Cadillac to that first Concert she saw him at in 57.

My wife was a critical care nurse there fresh out of nursing school. She was off duty when he came in but had he survived he would have been in her unit. Knew some of the staff that was in the ER and worked on him. He dedt. But it took a while and some unnecessary treatment before it was official. I have seen copies of his ECG. Flat line. He dedt.
Supposedly he was in and out of the hospital on rehab and recovery so much he had his preferred wing of a floor. Also supposedly he was very generous to those he took a liking to. At the end much of the single use materials used on him walked. IV lines, resuscitation bag, 4x4’s, etc.
My dad had me run off a stray dog, shot behind him with pops 12ga and he just meandered off looking at me like "wtf?". The dog was back the next morning. The news was going on about Elvis passing and Pop said "dam, I'm gonna take in that stray and name him Elvis" Turned out to be one of the best mutts he ever had. Elvis is gone. Left the building.
I remember the exact place I was standing and can still feel the atmosphere when I got the call that my parents and brother were in a horrific car accident. I was 15, my buddy was 16 and had just dropped me off. He hadn't left yet and had to drive me to the hospital.
I remember the look on my Dad's face when he was told his IPF was terminal by the doctor.
I remember the exact words out of my Mother's mouth when they told her she had brain cancer.
Entertainers, Celebrities, Sports Players have never registered a blip on my radar.............
I can however point to the exact place my work pickup was on the road when I turned on the radio and heard about the first tower being hit.
I was 7. I was in my bedroom when it came on television. Broke my heart and still does. He had an incredible voice and incredible range. Stunning good looks and raw sexuality from '68-'73.
