What kind of lawn mower do you mow your ranch with ?might be in the market
Not mowing a ranch here, but John Deere has worked well for me.
I have had a D170 for years problem free.

2003 Exmark 54” that I’ve treated like a bush hog. Just keeps on rolling. I’d buy again.
Don't know what you mean by "ranch". People define that differently. I have Frontier 7' for small jobs and JD 1470 for bigger stuff. On momma's lawn, I use a Toro battery powered push mower.
I don't have a ranch. I mow about 4.5 acres with a 52" Exmark E series Radius. It's a fairly heavy duty residential grade zero turn.
I have a Bush Hog brand zero turn. M2255 I believe is the model number, mow 4 acres. I have owned it for 12 years now.
I bought a newer Hustler commercial mower with a Kawasaki engine at a sod farm liquidation auction. Only mow 4 acres but it's been bulletproof for 14 years.
Hello There neighbor!
In Franklin I use a 60" Kubota 22 horse diesel tractor. I'm cutting a bit over 5 acres. It's about 20 years old and I think it may be built better than the newer ones. On the place close to you I just bought a new-to-me 7' John Deere bush hog. It is a foot bigger than the Bush Hog brand I've been using for 20 years and cuts the bigger stuff without grunting.
Good Luck,
Rick
JD - HX15
JD - HX10
JD - HX6
SCAG - Turf Tiger
SCAG - Cheetah
I have a Kubota 50 horse and a 24 horse cub cadet, well pleased with both.
LOL... I mow ranches for a living.
But not with a lawn mower...
To mow my lawn I have a Bad Boy zero turn.

I don't use it as much these days with fuel prices being what they are... But I have used it on some thick stuff this year.
If I REALLY want to burn some diesel, I run this:
It cuts great! But only a 6 foot path, and does run through some fuel to do so!
Kubota B2920 pulling a 60" RHINO 160.
The Cub 960 is a beast on hills. I’ve mowed 35* slopes without a problem on my 8 acres. The all wheel steering is key. Oh and the stripes it will lay down is also impressive.
I run a Deere 925A.
Bought the wife a Cub ZT1 last year.
Both have Kawasaki engines... IMHO Kawasaki makes a good engine.
I would prefer a diesel Deere, but for the cost the value is not there.
We use a Husqvarna TS354D to cut the yard 1.35 acres and some of our 4-wheeler road about a mile roundtrip.
Ford 2000 with a matching blue salad shooter on the back.
4.5 acres to mow? Raise a beef instead.

Smart!
I usually mow quite a few acres but this year I decided to let about 2-3 acres left unmowed. Deer love it. I don't know what they're eàting but they're in my yard every night like clockwork. It's cool watching the fawns get bigger.
BTW my mower is a JD X495 diesel with a 60 inch deck. It's a good machine but I wish for a zero turn.
In the context of "lawn", most anything as long as it’s a zero turn. I’ve delegated my old rider to pulling a small yard trailer back and forth from the garden and small clean up jobs.

I wouldn't mind. But fencing costs money.
Besides, my wife would make a pet of it.
Nuff said.....chortle
On a serious note, we don't waste much grass mowing except for ditches and trails.

So easy my kid can do it.
Cattle mostly. Few horses. Two Servis brush hogs a New Holland swather a JD ZT to trim around the edges. There's a little self propelled Husky push mower out back used to mow around the raised garden beds. Mostly we encourage a cow critter to keep it clipped back. Saves fuel.....
Knobbies on an Exmark.

Funny story, a guy I knew that had a few highlander cows in a field that he always kept finishing mowed. He was at the co-op buying grain one day when his neighbor was there. The neighbor asked him, "you do know them cows will eat that grass if you just quit mowing it don’t you?"
John Deere 950 compact with a rear mounted Woods RM90 finish mower.
Deere 345 54" for the yard most of the time.
Picked up a Simplicity Landlord 54" early this year in excellent condition at a very reasonable price. The thing worked perfectly until last weekend when the Kohler motor threw a rod. 🤬
Grasshopper 900D for most work
JD 425 for the slopes that the Hopper can't stick to
Scag 61" Tiger Cat, or 8' brush hog for the tractor.
If it is a small push type gasoline lawnmower, when looking, see if it has an oil drain plug. I bought one from Tractor Supply and you have to turn the mower over and drain the oil thru the fill hole.
I also have a 60" brush hog for my Kubota and 48 inch rider by Craftsman. I should have checked on that when I bought it too. It only has two blades and in heavier grass, it misses a center section. Always go with3 blades.

Chortle. Did you get that deal of yours to run? I was planning on congratulating you, but lost track of that thread....

Those should be the ticket for a pond bank.

You sure you got enough horsepower to run that cutter, Sam?
! only mow a couple acres, just bought a Bad Boy Magnum MZ 54" at start of cutting season, it's holding up perfect, but of course, it ought to! Wish I had stepped up to their first model that has suspension, I think a ZT Elite 60", but it was 2K more. Gel ass cushion helps.
2005 Dixie Chopper. 60” deck. 28 Hp gas engine. Knobby ATV tires on rear to stick to the banks. Bout due for a new seat.

yea, it needed a new starter. Was able to get one delivered next day. Starts right up and mows now. How long will it last? Its had a rough life. I whispered to it today that I'll baby it if it gives me two seasons.
Don, your turkeys are tamer than ours!
Barry, I wish that mower was about 2' wider, it can't quite cover the tracks....lol
It's a 7'.
If you have a reasonable amount of grass to mow, Get a Cub Cadet in 46" or larger. I like mine and have mowed some ridiculous stuff at out deer camp. I just like the way they are set up and they are quick turning for a tractor type mower.
Angus cows
A few yearlings.

I hear ya!
I think to go any wider you graduate to two gear boxes...
I mow about an acre and a half on a fairly steep hill with a 4WD Kubota 2370 with a 5 ft belly mower
mowing deck is very heavy duty
7 years old, almost 300 hours no problems
very pleased with it
Honda commercial walk behind for the yard and Kubota B3030 with 60" Land Pride for the rest of it.
