Evidently the situation in Haiti has deteriorated so much since the assassination of the Prez last year that the country has requested the US bring in our military to restore order. Criminal gangs have taken over the lone operating fuel terminal, shutting down commerce there. Wouldn't this be a job for the UN?

Haiti is 25 times bigger than Hong Kong. Haiti has more oil and natural gas than Venezuela, while Hong Kong is nearly devoid of natural resources. Yet Hong Kong, while independent from China, was super prosperous, and Haiti a basket case. I wonder what makes the difference.

Haiti has no proven oil and/or natural gas reserves, no production, and no exploration companies actively drilling there; notwithstanding the opinion of the World Atlas in 2019. What oil company in their right mind would sign an agreement to work there?

40 years ago during my corporate pilot days I visited three or four times and Haiti was a world class chitthole. It's only gotten worse. One of the reasons they are coming to America is that we allow it. Their neighbor, the Dominican Republic spends a great deal of money and energy keeping their border with Haiti secure. Our guberment should take heed.
