The wife & I stayed at her brother & sister in law's place on Wednesday night before Thanksgiving and went out for pizza that evening. We took the sister in law's Porsche Macan GT5 SUV. I'll tell you that SOB has some real HP. Twin turbo V6 rated @434 horsepower, nearly identical to the 1967 Chevy L71 tri power 427. I do not like the European sports car lineup and never will but this thing has serious power. My neck still hurts from him romping on it. He loves fast cars & started out with a 1966 389 tri power GTO that he bought new with the money he saved working at his dad's restaurant.
A friend of mine's wife drives one. He drives a 718 Spyder. I drive a 718 Boxster S. They all scoot.
There's a reason why Porsche has won more races than any other manufacturer.
It’s kinda odd to see a soccer mom SUV with Launch Control on it. My wife drives a Mecan S. Twin turbo V6 but toned down to 350 hp. It’s plenty fast for her.

Tony
Any room in back to haul critters?
It’s a four door with a regular back seat. Your crotch fruit will have plenty of room.

No worries, my crotch fruit won't be in one.
Buddy of mine has one in Sun Valley, Idaho .... he treats it like one of his kids. He's in banking, an empty nester, so he bought that car. He's constantly send pics of him with that car from various mountaintop views around Sun Valley and Ketchum.

We share pics of our kids - he sends pics of that car. His is a black 2017. He says it's zippy.
One of my oldest friends keeps trying to talk me into one. He's been working for our local Porsche dealership in sales for a while now. I'd just as soon sink 30k into the '06 GTO I already own and like. It'd wind up silly faster and still way cheaper.
I’d much rather have your friend’s ‘66 GTO.
Porsche's these days are cars you lease, not own FWIU.

So would I. I had a '66 LeMans convertible that I kick my own ass for selling. I also had a '82 911 SC that was sort of cool, but I had to sell it when a Dodge Diesel out-accelerated me going up a long hill.
That 66 GTO he bought new, right out of high school, with cash. Pale yellow, black vinyl roof, black interior, 4 speed Hurst shifter, 389 cu. in. with 3 two barrel Rochesters. He now drives Porsche's & BMW's.
GTO's are very cool but not for a daily driver. I have a 911 that is a summer driver. Friends have Cayenne's and Macan's. Awesome cars.....
No SUV but my neighbor has a couple 911 twin turbo's that he gets out from time to time. What few hours that I have in them have been pure joy.
The 2022 Turbo S 0-60 time of 1.9 seconds is pretty respectable for a street car, I think. Plus, it makes all the right kinds of noises when doing it.

Tell that guy to stop Romping on your neck and it will stop hurting.

Sorry
i could not resist

I have never been in a Porsche. Some day maybe never.
I couldn’t afford to look at one

Probably no worse than a loaded diesel pickup.

Same as far as affording though.

Hard to give that much $$ for a vehicle that can be a heap of scrap in a matter of seconds.
I don't need the attention enough to buy a Porsche.
You mean Macan GTS, correct? I've had one as a loaner and do like the way it drives, but prefer the Cayenne lineup more. They feel like a step above the Macan line for interior refinement and I think the Cayenne provides a better driving experience.

Back in the 70’s my brother was in California on business. He was standing on a corner, waiting for a cab. There was a hardware store close to him.

My brother saw Dustin Hoffman pull out of the hardware store driving a Porsche 911 convertible. The back seat had 2 rolls of barbed wire sitting.

Good thing it didn't rain, man.
I was planning on buying a Porsche Macan GT5........as soon as I pay off my Mitsubishi Mirage

Maybe take a closer look - am thinking that the rpm/hp/torque curve relationship is not nearly identical.
Mcqueen in his iconic 356 speedster.

What's the difference between a Porsche and a Porcupine?

The prick is inside the Porsche.

Guess again ..... I could pay cash for a new Porsche tomorrow and still be debit free.

Sorry to get you all horned up.
I don't find that Porsches garner all that much attention. There have been exceptions, but those are relatively uncommon.
Pretty sure some brats rolled one in The traffic circle here. Few days ago. At least one of 6 dayd. Know
some folks that witnessed the aftermath before the cops/first responders were on-scene. Saw some pics too.

Didn’t look like that ‘car’ held together for [bleep]. Hauling ass was definite. Drunk too.

Horror show however you slice it.
If you are a "real" car guy and this trips your trigger, that's awesome... if you are a poser looking for accolades you are a loser

Yeah, the '67 is gross hp, the Porsche is net hp!

Yes Ed, you are a nut... as in car nut... you can drive your Porsche with your head held high... smile
Back around 1971 when doing some tuning/wrenching and some driving for a buddy with a couple of race cars, and also looking and hoping to buy a Corvette, another prof at the college invited me to drive his newer 911S on some of those winding up and down roads in the foothills west of town. WoW. For a "factory" car, that thing handled like it was on rails and was a screamer - am thinking it had 4 Webers - and have forgotten the cu. ins. Made me a Porsche believer in 15 minutes. Have been fortunate to have driven a few more fast ones since - mostly on track - but never have owned one.

Paul,

I have been a Car and Driver subscriber for years and over the last ten or so they get bashed for being Porsche whores. Beyond just well balanced performance the best write I can recall of late was along the lines "it just seems what they do was done by one brilliant engineer/designer that did not have to meld multiple engineers/designers work into one". I really think you would enjoy driving my Boxster. Very easy to drive fast and 3.6 second 0-60 times, sub-12 seconds for the quarter mile and near 30 mpg is pretty neat. My wife keeps it out of sport mode and it like driving a Honda...

A good friend once told me "Anybody that can afford a Porsche or BWM, and opts for four doors, is a fugking moron."

Not saying he's 100% right.

But...

Yep. My wife's 2022 Audi Q7 fills the four door niche. I mean I drive a 70 Dodge Dart. It's a two door though.
I bet CCCC enjoys driving one hard...

That's why Porsche offers the 473hp, lifted 4 wheel drive 911 Dakar.

It's for the outdoor, off road type guys that could use the optional roof tent on occasion but find SUV's with bicycle racks to be more of a soccer mom vehicle.

Ed, thanks. I know I would enjoy running your "B". Many years ago, my soninlaw in MN prepared and raced a 928 with his Porsche club and I drove/raced that car a couple of times up at Brainerd and once at Elkhart Lake. Also ran his fairly new Boxster 986 on the track - simply excellent little balanced package. I also heard some alarming engine noise at heavy load - he soon had Porsche correct that and then immediately sold it. Memory is faint, but I think it was an endemic problem with a back end bearing not fully hardened or not getting lube, and heard of quite a few cases with that gen Boxster. Have you experienced such or is yours a later engine version? [Never mind - read that cite about your Boxster. Completely different mill. Beautiful car.]

Picked up the macan big brother last weekend
2016 Cayenne with a 3.0 liter diesel averaging 26 mpg running around town

Dad had the LeMans version in a convertible, Pale yellow, black top, black vinyl interior.
He traded it in 70 for a new LeMans conv in silver/blk
