Decided that I needed to burn some club points on a Glock 40 MOS. Did a search of store inventories and found them in stock an hour and a half away.
Arrived at the store and was the only customer at the gun counter. Seemed unnecessary but pulled a number off the dispenser. Waited ten minutes before a mid-twenties lump of goo put his phone down and acknowledged my presence. Told him I wanted a Glock 40. He opened the case and retrieved a 20 saying that it's the only 10mm they have. I told him that it shows 40s in stock on the website and asked him to check the back room. He just stood there and said a bit louder "WE DON'T HAVE ANY!" then walked away and went back to diddling his phone.
I was Fing steaming!
Started walking to the front door but decided to go back try again with a different person. Luckily, the department supervisor called my new number. I told him that the large young man wouldn't check the back room for a Glock 40 that is shown in stock online. He spun around, went into the storage room and returned with the gun within thirty seconds.
As I was completing paperwork and checking out, sales slug #1 was told twice by the supervisor to get off his phone while customers were waiting.
I quit Cabelas a few years before Bass Pro bought them. The writing was on the wall.
Should have very loudly asked him if his legs worked or was they painted on ?
Dam an [bleep] like that
Kenneth
We have a pos like you describe that works with us. He gets treated like the pos that he is. He has been told that his standing among the group will improve as his efforts improve.
You sure are more polite than I would have been. I am not normally a grumpy old man (but I do find that the older I get the less I like people) what sends me sideways in a heartbeat is rudeness from a salesperson. But everyone has their triggers and that has always been one of mine. I look at it as I am not asking them to do anything but their job and if you work behind a counter then it's your job to help me find exactly what I'm looking for. Now if inventory showed zero, then there is nothing anyone can do about it but not even attempting to locate an item that they should have in stock........my eyes changes color, my skin turns green and my clothes start ripping at the seams.
Never been in a Cabela's store

I went to the Bass pro Shop's Grand Opening here in Commyfornia on the 3rd day of opening.

I waited 2 hours in line and asked if they had any Nato Primers.
I had a Know Everything middle aged Sales Dick that Told me that there was no such thing as a Nato Primers.

I explained to him what they were and why I needed them.
He went and rounded up 2 more Sales Dicks that all commenced to tell me that there were no such things as Nato Primers.

Then they got the manager to come over to me this was at about the 2 1/2 hour time frame and over 50 customers all listening to me again Explain what a Nato Primers were and was used for.

The Manager told me that he may have heard of them a long time ago and did not think that the made them anymore and that they did not have any.

I have only been back to that store 2 times since.
My Girl wanted to look at their Nascar stuff and I went to just look at their Gun Vault High end fancy Guns and was told to leave after they found out I was just Browsing like Rodney Dangerfield No respect I tell ya No Respect.

I have never had the want or the need to ever go back into those stores.

Good for you on getting what you were looking for.
I would have cussed POS slug out.
On a better note, the first five shots hit an 8" plate at 65 yards offhand without adjusting the sights. Mounted a Vortex Venom this evening and will get it sighted in tomorrow.
Welcome to the G40 club! I love mine, notwithstanding the mush trigger.
I sent a message via GunsInternational to the Cabela's in Massachusetts that I was interested in a rifle. Two minutes later the manager called and a couple of minutes later I was the proud owner of a Range Certified Weatherby Arroyo in 6.5 CM

Your a lot nicer than me. One of the many reasons I don’t so Cabela’s or Walmart or any of the big chain retail stores anymore. Usually it’s ole Shanika with the fake rainbow colored dreadlocks and fake 4” fingernails. And AssPro has totally ruined Cabela’s.😡

Thank god the feds kept azz pro from buying sportsman’s. Our cabelas is so bad I actually think they want to go bankrupt on purpose.
Funny.

Went to nearest Cabelas and the younger guys behind the counter asked me what I needed.

The older guys were the ones standing around BSing.

Gun library was overpriced, and has hardly anything in it, the last yr or so. Not worth going.

But the ol lady has a couple shops she likes nearby so every other i jump in to have a look.

Went to pick up a scope, none in stock. 6 months later a diff scope..... none in stock. Aint going to attempt a 3rd.
I bought a gun at Cabelas.
It reminded me of going to the dept of motor vehicles to renew my drivers licence.

Yep. That was my last experience there 3 or 4 years ago.

I stopped going to what I called my Favorite Gun Shop Turners Outdoorsman Here in Commyfornia.
At one time I was on their Best Customer list because of what and how much I purchased from that Corp.
They had a short Memory and Delayed me getting a Custom Order Rifle that I had Built for myself.
They delayed my delivery by 2 months because they finally admitted that they did not want to Dros the rifle so that they could have it delivered into their store for me to receive it.

After they admitted what they were doing I found a Police Sting Pawn shop that Dros'd the rifle and I had it right away.

As a Thank You I gave them the Turnbull Table Book that came with the Rifle.

I had a painless experience buying a gun from one of their gun libraries off of GI. I stopped in the Bass pro at the Pyramid a couple months back. The gun selection wasn't very impressive. Lots of Benelli shotguns. Walked area with a led sled for cheap.

The shop I use is a small one owned by a friend and his wife. His employees are his brother and his son’s brother in law. Been in business since 1973.
Started buying guns there when I was 13 when it was owned by a local cop and his wife. Grew up and went to school with his daughter. The current owner and I are good friends and have hunted together quite a bit. Good honest folks like them you can trust, with great employees are hard to find nowadays. But fortunately there are still a few out there.
Ordered a gun online once from them. That was a mistake. Their gun checkout system is about as logical as a drunk donkey trying to herd sheep. Still have to wait in the same line by the gun counter. Then have to wait in a second line for the paperwork (tablet form). Then have to wait a third time for the gun checkout and an escort to the parking lot. If you get behind a dunce that doesn't know $hit from shinola and asks 1000 irrelevant questions, you will be behind them at all three stages as well. Figure on an hour on a light day. Between now and Christmas- forget it. Sportsman's Warehouse isn't much better. Bought a single action revolver (NIB) there, and the one dunce decided he had to pull the cylinder before he could let it go. Only took 20 minutes for him to figure out how to get that back together.

No more. Support local business, and buy a gun online out of state, and ship it to your local FFL holder. Generally, can get no tax, free shipping, and no hassles.
Cabelas is no different than any other store these days. Try to buy a pair of socks at a shoe store.

I still go to every Cabelas in in any town that has one and once in awhile there is something worth going in for. You can buy a Glock anywhere, but classic guns are few and far between…

I find a lot of good stuff on the Sportman's web site. I order it and have it delivered to the store for free. It's not quite as good as Brownell's or Midway but it's not bad. I am less than 2 miles for the Sportman's store so it's pretty handy.

Not a cabelas issue exclusively, this is an american employee issue. No workers so we get stuck with chitbags who shouldnt and wouldnt normally be employeed if things were normal

Not to many small guys her in Commyfornia
They have all but been wiped out by Criminals or the Bureaucracy
I was introduced to a Black Powder guy and was getting to know him quite well.
Then some POS gang Banger robbed and killed one of his workers and the Insurance company closed him down.

a Decade latter I was in Turners Outdoorsman and started talking to one of the salesman about Black Powder.

No customers in the store at all just me and the Sales Staff.
Well that kid Salesman and my self started talking and all of the other sales people started listening to us learning from what we were talking about.

It turned out that the kid I was talking to was the Son of the Black Powder guy that I was getting to know that was shut down.

He remembered me coming in his dads shop.
We talked for maybe a half hour about Black Powder and then the New Manager of the store told everyone to get back to work and Kicked me out of the store.

I was the only Customer in the Store.

On the way home I called my girl to look up the phone # to the Corporate Office.

Before she got back to me I had (2) Salesman call me to give me the Corporate Office #.

When I got home I call the office and when they picked up the phone they said Yes MR------- What can we help you with.
I asked them how they knew my name and they told me I was on their Best Customer list and they knew all about me.

I told them what had happened in the store that night and they were not happy at all.

That Manager was moved to another store and put as a Salesman not a Manager with in a week.

I received (2) calls from the Corporate Office after that to apologize for the way I was Treated.
They told me that (3) of the Salesman that night that were listing to us talk about Black Powder had called to lit Corporate know what they witnessed that night.

Turners sold out to a bigger POS Corporation and forgot about all of their Customer Service.
They just got the Corporate Attitude like the big ones do.
And that is when they refused to service their Customers unless they could get the big bucks off of them.

They lost a lot of good customers but they were replaced by the Gang Bangers and uninformed.

I have not purchased a Firearm since my last Custom Order from Turnbull and that was when Obummer was in his first term.
I ran out of Disposable funds like so many during his occupancy.
Several years back I went online looking for a Browning Citori White Lightning 20 GA and fround that there was one at my local (40 miles away) Ass pro shop. I get down these, take a number then after waiting half hour there bouts some silly bitch working the gun counter tells me it's not in stock. I says really? Let's talk to your manager. He goes in the back and brings out my Citori. Most of these fuqks are worthless.
It's not just cabelas

Same here. And I hate it! As a born and raised Nebraskan Cabela's holds a special place to me. It breaks my heart to see what happened to that once great company.

Stopped at that Sidney, Nebraska store about 30 years ago while headed to a deer hunt in SD. Great place at that time, and long before TX ever had one. Still have a Cabela’s Windstopper wool coat I bought there in their old Treebark Camo pattern. Made when Cabela’s products were well worth the money. It still gets used when it’s really cold here.
Also stopped at the great First Stop Gun Shop in Rapid City on that same trip.
I don’t understand why any employer allows employees to carry and use their cell phones while on the clock. Absolutely zero reason to allow this.
As we all know, when BPS bought Cabela's, it went down hill.
Now it is one of the last places I go to shop

Have a Cabelas Outpost a mile from the house. It is used for the last minute needs only. Gave up the Cabelas card and points when Bass Pro bought them. Points were far less than what I can earn elsewhere. They have their place, I just prefer to look elsewhere

It is extremely hard to get intelligent employees nowadays, and real hard to find some that will be nice to customers. You are an interruption in their day.
My LGS employs one of the rudest people Ive ever had the displeasure of dealing with. The kid that owns the place is blue ribbon top shelf but why he keeps the bicycle guy on staff I have no idea. Thinks he knows everything, that everyone else is dumb, and that coming back 2-3 times to pick up a gun/powder/bullets is just the thing everyone needs in their life.

LMAO at your story, but glad you got your gun.

Sounds like you're going to enjoy that gun.
Ours makes you do a background check even though you may have a pistol permit. You better have an hour set aside if you wanna buy a gun. Anyway, joker told me I would be denied because he claimed I put the wrong county I lived in down. I know where I live. He argued and finally said fine, I'll run it but you'll get denied....Of course I wasnt. It was a pain.

Due to our local criminals, they put all longguns stacked on top of each other in a grocery cart and roll them into the safe and the end of the day. You should see the nice wood rifles and shotguns that have been ruined. Oh...but they'll take 5% off. I bet they dont have 2 bucks in those cheap gun cases they sale, why not put the long guns in those to protect them at the end of the day, instead of knocking of 5%...which I more than than 2 dollar gun case.

Local Bass Pro here (Dania Beach) fired the best employee they had behind the gun counter. Before I even asked, I knew instinctively why they had canned Allan. ( Alan is a Vietnam veteran with an excellent knowledge of firearms). He had gotten into an altercation with one of these rude ass South American bags of schit that come up here. Allan should have beat him to death with a Glock 40. smile
I had the same experience when I needed to burn some points off of my Cabela's card.... Bought a 243 on line, delivered to store... went to store... had to pull a number.... only three other people at the gun counter.... it took the better half of the moring to get out of the store with my prepaid gun....

Goodness. Never again. I took my cabela's card and locked it away in the gun safe so I will never build points on that thing again.
I just have very low expectations of Cabela/BPS employee knowledge of the things I want and act accordingly. The most I expect of them is to know what aisle or area to look for what I need. Most of the folks I’ve dealt with have been much more helpful than that.

Didn't have to do a background check when I handed him my ccw license. The paperwork had to be reviewed by four different people at one point or another.

I did hear an associate behind the counter complaining that they had to lock all the guns up every night and wished they could just close a gate to the gun dpt.
Sad how bad cabelas has gotten
I’ve been in a couple, nice mounts in the stores
Cabelas had idiots working behind the gun counter well before Bass Pro bought them.
I had one refuse to hand me rings for a CZ, and when I called his boss he made excuses for him.
CZ 452 American is a 3/8 mount he said it was 11MM and refused to even hand them to me, or look the gun up.
They have not sold me a dime's worth of anything since IIRC

I use mine to talk to vendors, outside contractors, and look up parts #s for parts and supplies. It's way more efficient than playing phone tag or leafing through parts manuals. I know this since that's what I had to do to manage the same tasks 30 years ago.
Just replied to a satisfaction survey for my recent shopping experience at Cabelas. I vented and feel a bit better now. 🙂
I buy online and just pick it up at the store. All I have to do pass the background check and pick it up.
My total dealing is a heritage. 22 mag at BP, the 4 requisite guys to reread the paperwork. Cabelas a 9mm stoeger because BP was sold out. I did get knowledgeable guys both times. The LGS has good staff; recently got a sw 411, lcp, .22,

BP did have a floor supervisor that toldme the box that s a id bullets on it was projectiles, a bulet is t h e whole case etc.
