Just about the entire state of Tennessee is experiencing single digit temperatures, and a news talk radio station in Nashville is saying there will be 15 minute electric power shutdowns every two hours statewide, orders given to all the power producers by some sort of government agency. I've got a different idea- - - - -how about we start shooting a politician every 15 minutes until the situation improves? It wouldn't take long to see a change in policy!

I never thought to add rolling blackouts to the list of things gun owners will pretend they are going to do something over,, but thanks for giving me the heads up.

In regards to busing for school integration.
George Wallace suggested they buy a used school bus to take the suprema court judges to work, and layoff the limousine drivers.

Good ideas like that never seem to come about.

Ronald Reagan made a classic comment, something to the effect of "Politics is the world's second oldest profession, and it resembles the first one in a lot of ways!" There's a good reason the words "politician" and prostitution" sound so much alike- - - - -both of them are for sale to the highest bidder, and they all have the morals of an alleycat!

Our TVA electric co-op announced this morning that we'd be having rolling blackouts today, but have since rescinded it. There are still some people without power in the area due to last nights storm. I'd hate to be without power here, as it has only warmed up to 5 today, after dropping to minus 5 last night. The wind chill has been as cold as minus 26.

We need to share with California. They deserve our sacrifices on their behalf for the tremendous examples they are to all of us on how to properly run a state into the ground.

We live at the end of a dead end so we’re always the last to come back on. Last big storm was 4 days. We’ve learned to be prepared and are sitting fine right now. Powers been off since 930 this morning.
My new neighbor that just completed their house in October is also sitting in the dark, but his heat is forced air propane and because of all the cost overruns on his build, his whole house generator didn’t get installed this year. Lesson learned the hard way I guess.
I told him he could borrow a generator in the morning if the powers not back on (and it won’t be).
Posted By: MPat70 Re: "Rolling Blackouts" - 12/23/22
If you don't own a generator backup by now then there is no hope for ya. We know crap like this happens in summer and winter. The power grid is compromised by political ideology just like every other facit of life!
Posted By: wabigoon Re: "Rolling Blackouts" - 12/23/22
We've run the generator for as many as 10 days, I'd think, well the bill should be smaller? Guess what.

I hear your sarcasm. On the same note, we need to send all of that Columbia River water to Kali, instead of wasting it into the Pacific.

My power was out for about 16 hours, came back on between 2-4 pm.today.

I spent a bunch on that whole house generator, but haven't regretted spending a cent on it.

In Lexington Ky last night ,we had rolling black outs ,even one of the news stations got hit. They said they doing it to keep the whole grid from going down from near max usage ,,and for everyone to cut back on elec usage . I think they said this first time they done this here..On a nother note ,this coming year they are going to shut down a coal fired power plant in the next county ,to save the earth ,. we having self induced black outs ,because not enough elec capatity ..and they want to shut down the power plants ..third world status ,here we come
Posted By: CouchPullsOut Re: "Rolling Blackouts" - 12/24/22
Daddy used to have blackouts

Makes no sense. For heating, there is a big percentage that heats with fuel of some kind, not just electric. But for cooling, everybody relies on power. So why no blackouts in the summer heat?
Posted By: Dave_Spn Re: "Rolling Blackouts" - 12/25/22
We are quickly becoming a 3rd world country and many are ok with it. I'm seeing people say "What's the big deal about 15-30 minute blackout if it keeps the whole grid up. They say people whine too much over 30 minutes"

I say instead of sending BILLIONS to the Ukraine, and spending BILLIONS on illegals, it should go into the nation's grid. I say we shouldn't shutter fossil fuel power generation with the idea that a few windmills and unicorn farts will save the world.

Stupid people are buying into it. We aren't a nation that was born out of mediocracy, but are becoming a people content with mediocracy, just like all the stupid white European socialists.

Sad days

Until we have newer technology, the electric car is a town car. It still pollutes the earth.

Because every Tom, Dick and Harry plugs in a couple of 1,500 watt space heaters, and cranks up the baseboard heat.

Resistive heaters are handy, but atrociously inefficient to run.

There's blackouts or strained grid in the summer too. Some places have their peak load in the summer, some in the winter, some have similar peaks in both. Basically weather dependent. California had big issues this last September with very high temps and fires.

They are still building new homes and apartments in my area. The power grid is on a knife edge of supplying our power.
Yet no new power plants in our future. It’s only going to get worse. Hasbeen

Our peak electric hour is in the summer.
The majority of heat production is burning wood, coal or oil, some resistive of course,
heat pumps on new houses backed up by oil or gas.

REA runs adds on the radio about The Elecrtric Shift. When we try to not use energy.
They run warning ads on the hottest days.
Encouraging folks to not cook with electric, shower, to raise AC temps.....
until a bit later in the evening.
There is 1 hour/year where we use the most energy.
That hour has enormous influence on the price of every hour used, so they try to keep
the amount as low as possible.

Yesterday was the first time we were cut off just because they couldn't make enough power.
4hrs, we're ok with backup heat. Loves me some propane.
The spokes dude for Duke energy admitted solar don't work at night. Duh

You make a solid point, sir. I’m getting to the point I doubt most everything.

I’ve never seen this in Tennessee.

Heat pumps are popular in new construction here.

Great when its not so cold. But when it does get cold enough for all those AUX strips to fire up they're pulling a lot of juice. Add in all the 1500w firetraps and the sun going down (no dumbazz solar) leaving the remaining nuclear/gas/coal plants to hold it all up.

The little woman don't want to look at a big old propane tank in the yard......
Posted By: Oldman03 Re: "Rolling Blackouts" - 12/25/22
No blackouts here, but they did send out a notice asking people to conserve electricity.

As far as I know, Entergy of Louisiana does not have any wind or solar powered operations. Somewhere around 40 coal, gas, oil, hydro, and nuclear generation stations, thru out the state.

Yep not only amazing how fast the powers that be have squandered our ancestors’ legacy, but also managed to condemned those who point it out.
