Makes no sense. For heating, there is a big percentage that heats with fuel of some kind, not just electric. But for cooling, everybody relies on power. So why no blackouts in the summer heat?

We are quickly becoming a 3rd world country and many are ok with it. I'm seeing people say "What's the big deal about 15-30 minute blackout if it keeps the whole grid up. They say people whine too much over 30 minutes"
I say instead of sending BILLIONS to the Ukraine, and spending BILLIONS on illegals, it should go into the nation's grid. I say we shouldn't shutter fossil fuel power generation with the idea that a few windmills and unicorn farts will save the world.
Stupid people are buying into it. We aren't a nation that was born out of mediocracy, but are becoming a people content with mediocracy, just like all the stupid white European socialists.

Until we have newer technology, the electric car is a town car. It still pollutes the earth.

Because every Tom, Dick and Harry plugs in a couple of 1,500 watt space heaters, and cranks up the baseboard heat. Resistive heaters are handy, but atrociously inefficient to run.

There's blackouts or strained grid in the summer too. Some places have their peak load in the summer, some in the winter, some have similar peaks in both. Basically weather dependent. California had big issues this last September with very high temps and fires.

They are still building new homes and apartments in my area. The power grid is on a knife edge of supplying our power. Yet no new power plants in our future. It’s only going to get worse. Hasbeen

Our peak electric hour is in the summer. The majority of heat production is burning wood, coal or oil, some resistive of course, heat pumps on new houses backed up by oil or gas.
REA runs adds on the radio about The Elecrtric Shift. When we try to not use energy. They run warning ads on the hottest days. Encouraging folks to not cook with electric, shower, to raise AC temps..... until a bit later in the evening. There is 1 hour/year where we use the most energy. That hour has enormous influence on the price of every hour used, so they try to keep the amount as low as possible.

Hasbeen This^^^^ Yesterday was the first time we were cut off just because they couldn't make enough power. 4hrs, we're ok with backup heat. Loves me some propane. The spokes dude for Duke energy admitted solar don't work at night. Duh

Heat pumps are popular in new construction here.
Great when its not so cold. But when it does get cold enough for all those AUX strips to fire up they're pulling a lot of juice. Add in all the 1500w firetraps and the sun going down (no dumbazz solar) leaving the remaining nuclear/gas/coal plants to hold it all up.
The little woman don't want to look at a big old propane tank in the yard......

No blackouts here, but they did send out a notice asking people to conserve electricity.
As far as I know, Entergy of Louisiana does not have any wind or solar powered operations. Somewhere around 40 coal, gas, oil, hydro, and nuclear generation stations, thru out the state.

Just about the entire state of Tennessee is experiencing single digit temperatures, and a news talk radio station in Nashville is saying there will be 15 minute electric power shutdowns every two hours statewide, orders given to all the power producers by some sort of government agency. I've got a different idea- - - - -how about we start shooting a politician every 15 minutes until the situation improves? It wouldn't take long to see a change in policy! Remember when we lived in a First World nation? Yep not only amazing how fast the powers that be have squandered our ancestors’ legacy, but also managed to condemned those who point it out.
