Colling it an Atmospheric River.

Good and bad comes from a storm like that.

It sucks for a lot of folks, but man we need that precip here bad. So it’s a love hate thing for me…
Posted By: viking Re: Another Big Storm. - 12/26/22
I’m sure will get some bad weather from it out here.

If folks don’t have to work in it, no big deal then eh.

After the ice storm last week from Eugene to Seattle, there's a LOT of people that would argue with you! Friend of mine had 4 (FOUR) cars in his driveway and in his garage, all from failing to make a turn on an inch of ice. The carnage along the I-5 corridor was amazing.
Posted By: Rock Chuck Re: Another Big Storm. - 12/26/22
I have sons in Seattle and Tacoma. They've been telling me about all the fun on the roads in that area. The ice covered hills in Seattle were particularly entertaining. The only sensible thing to do is keep the pantry full and hope you don't have to go anywhere. The ice there never lasts more than a couple days. It was 50 yesterday in Seattle so it all melted.

Yep…..

Seen that on the fake weather news last night

The west needs it

Up to 40” of mountain snow statewide for Utah
Posted By: flintlocke Re: Another Big Storm. - 12/26/22
We'll gratefully accept every snowflake, every drop of rain. I fired up the excavator Thursday to dig out a pine stump...10" down dry, dusty dirt. As it is, when we want to make a pot of coffee, we call the neighbor up canyon and ask them to flush their toilet.

Shasta...31% capacity. Trinity Lake 21% capacity. At this time of year, water regulators like to see 60%. The Delta Smelt may be important, I'm no biologist, but it would seem in a drought...all users would get cut back an equal share...say runoff is 50% of normal, then farmers, and fish should only get 50% of their normal allocation. But that is not how it works by order of the courts...the Delta Smelt still gets a 100%. Were there no droughts before the dams were built?

Going to be interesting to see Lake Powell’s future

Soon to be too low to generate power

Mention of it being drained and reclaiming the canyons it once flooded
Posted By: Rock Chuck Re: Another Big Storm. - 12/26/22
The OP link has a map showing the storm covering all of Idaho. I've checked 3 major weather sites and none of them show anything out of the ordinary for the next 10 days.
Posted By: Osky Re: Another Big Storm. - 12/26/22
This can’t be real?
You mean with all the money stolen from us in the name of stopping climate change the dam climate is still changing??
Did the checks bounce?

This could be a huge blessing. There have been times down here in North Louisiana when tropical storms have been a big relief of drought.

Hastings, what is the old saying down South…”it takes a hurricane to break a drought!” Terrible for many but huge blessing for farmers and ranchers.

Maybe this is not anything out of the ordinary?

Looks like a good storm coming to me, and soon.

For that area, it's not at all out of the ordinary. That area is littered with 10k+ peaks and some very rugged country. 2-6" in the valleys is nothing. This warning is just to tell people to gas up their snowmobiles.

Used to be called the "Pineapple Express"

happens every few years, can't remember which conditions increase it......could be El Nino or maybe La Nina..............

But, it's a fairly regular occurrence.

If we get a few inches of moisture (snow water equivalent or actual rain) we'll be plenty appreciative.

We don’t need anymore -40’s F with -70ish wind chills……but, we darn sure need the moisture! Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow! 😉 memtb

Your lecture describing that country is wasted on me as I have spent time there, albeit some years ago.

I also know that most years moisture there is usually welcome and needed, even if it's just a paltry everyday 10" to 20" in the mountains.

Weather Underground is showing lots of rain over the next week for Treasure Valley.

That should mean lots of snow on the Boise, Payette, and Owyhee drainages. We need it badly.

Working outside for most of the last several weeks, I will appreciate the break from the cold.

That storm has landed at my house, the rain is pouring very nicely.

An answer to prayer, I believe.

Thank you, Lord.

No rain here over on the east side of the mountains.

But, the wind has picked up substantially.

Supposed to be a dreary week over here.............I hate that crap...............rain/snow and get it over with then bring back the sun.

Going to be cloudy and every day with 0.10" to 0.25" rain, then some evening with perhaps an inch of snow.

We do need every drop though, I just wish the drops would come closer together.
Posted By: Stix Re: Another Big Storm. - 12/27/22
Going pretty good down here in the valley. Hope we get some good rain out of it.

Help me out here so global warming/climate change is causing all of this?? I’m confused these days, I thought winters were supposed to be warmer not colder under this guise of climate change/global warming.

Well, not sure it has anything to do with the climate change/global warming argument, but this Pineapple Express is bringing warmer weather to the coast of CA, and probably all the way up to BC.

It was 52F or maybe a bit warmer here today. Not supposed to get much below freezing at night for the next week or so. And we're at 4500' elev or so. Snow levels will be fluctuating from 6700' tomorrow down to around 5000'.

This is warm weather for here, was below 0F last week.

People out here have no idea how to drive in weather like that...nor to know how to stay off the freeway, when everyone else is out there...

Bad weather in the Pacific NW, west of the Cascades, is another day of the week in places like North Dakota.
