However, I thought Kevin McCarthy was the real deal until last year when we learned that he was renting a room in DC from a Demonrat pollster who advised McCarthy on strategies to aid the GOP in being more appealing to independent voters and moderate Demonrats.

Pelosi changed the Rule to File a Motion from(1) to (50), McCarthy wants to change it from (1) to (5).

A couple things....McCarthy could have made a bit of peace with the Freedom Caucus, but he believed , as others did, a larger , much larger majority, in the house at Midterms would be realized, then McCarthy would have a majority vote. Trump has been pulling some real bonehead stunts recently that aren't doing his credibility any good, from endorsing Dr. Oz to those stupid trading cards. I wouldn't be surprised if the polls look very different by the time we get close to the primaries.

A lot of Republicans, I believe, actually bought into the whole Russian collusion lie. This led them to be more guarded in their support for Trump. With that hoax having been exposed for what it was, and with so much more of what went on being exposed, I'd like to think that a lot more Republicans are willing to go to the mat against the Democrats now. I know, I know, wishful thinking, RINOs, UniParty, blah blah blah. But what we have in Congress is what we have. Until state and federal election laws, including those concerning campaign finance, are at least improved we are stuck with voting for whatever Republican is running. Not voting solves nothing.
The McCarthy drama is a microcosm of the Republican Party as a whole. There is a faction that is dissatisfied with the status quo, but there is NO ONE who wants step up and run against McCarthy. I get the lack of enthusiasm for McCarthy and the dissidents want a change, but they don't have anything or anybody to change to. McCarthy has done no such thing. McCarthy offered a rule change from Pelosi’s 50 members to 5 members required to FILE A MOTION to Remove The Speaker.
FILING A MOTION is only the first step. Then the motion goes to a floor vote, there is NO Automatic STEPPING DOWN.
Pelosi changed the Rule to File a Motion from(1) to (50), McCarthy wants to change it from (1) to (5).
There can be NO UNITY when the Majority of The Party supports The Party First and ignores America and Americans.

Trump caused a stir that needed to happen. He got the economy firing on six cylinders and would have made it even stronger had he gotten another term. Most forget that or were just too stupid to realize it. Trump was making America stronger.
Trump just did not grasp the depth of treachery of the swamp. He got the business part right but not the political part. He put good people in place to fix the economy but was a poor judge of who was smart for the political positions (and there are few to choose from).
Trump made some real bad choices on endorsements and that showed he is not a particular good judge of conservative minded people. It showed that his supporters were not going to vote for candidates just because he said so when they knew they sucked. McCarthy is a prime example. Barak is right, Trump has damaged himself in front of his MAGA supporters and some will look elsewhere.

Just a comedy of errors. No unifying voice on the Republican side that is intent on delivering an agenda. McCarthy's entire platform was built on criticising Nancy Pelosi. With Nancy gone now he's afloat in the middle of the ocean without a motor or a sail.
Jim Jordan could step up here or not. I saw the headline where dems are now proposing McCarthy make a deal with a handful of them to get elected speaker. If this happens, the final nail is driven in the establishment, and good riddance.

The United States is on a trajectory that cannot survive. The present government is like a box drifting toward Niagara Falls, while inside the box Democrats and Republicans fight for control. Nobody is steering away from the Falls. I hope that these rebels are trying to steer the whole government and country out of the path to disaster.

All it takes is 7 or 8 McCarthy allies to instead not show up or to vote Present to force you patriots to either vote for McCarthy or facing the reality that it then would automatically go to Jefferies. Doesn't make a difference if it's a deal between the Democrats and McCarthy, or a deal between McCarthy and his allies. Either way would force the patriots to vote for McCarthy or give it to Jefferies.
I think there are some risks to the revolt strategy, but there are also quite a few possible gains.
If you listen to Chip Roy, one of the key people behind this, he wants a number of substantive changes to the house rules so that the people at the top can't suddenly spring bills on the full house with no time to evaluate and respond. He wants amendments on the floor to be allowed and a bunch of other changes that would empower rank and file representatives.
I definitely support what he is trying to do. But it's a mess and no one knows how it will end. Sometimes the ideal ends up being the enemy of the good. I'm hoping for the best.

If the Dems get Jeffries in it will not be the fault of the 20 it will be the fault of the 200. There is nothing being asked for that will not make the party, the government and the nation better. The problem is the prospective speaker and his subordinates do NOT want the possibility of being forced out. McCarthy is the most successful Republican fundraiser in the House with a pile of cash at his disposal. He failed to support a number of the 20 dissenter's campaigns. Now he's forced to spend political capital and to divest political infrastructure to enough of these 20 to win the speakership. When they've gotten everything they can out of him, they'll capitulate.
I think a fair number of the 20 rebels will not vote for McCarthy. While they do want a list of rules changes, the bottom line is that they simply don't trust him, and with good reason.
The alternative, is that there's no amount of political capital and political infrastructure that will satisfy the dissenters and another Republicans will come in and deal his way to Speaker.

I have 2 guesses about why President Trump Backed McCarthy
1st President Trump loves putting people in position to have them expose them selves to the entire Country.
McCarthy screws up bad enough it will just more crap in DC .
