That’s the best kind of canned.
Twice a week, fry it crisp and dump 2 over easy on top with some rye toast.

It was a staple in the house when I was a kid and it still remains that was as an adult. Hell, it was probably the first think I learned how to cook.

First place I’d ever had homemade was at a black bear diner up near Shasta- and it was incredible. I didn’t even know there was a homemade version at the time. Only tried it at a black bear once after as it was greasy and gross.

I’ve been known to buy extra corned beef when they go on sale after st Patrick’s day specifically to make hash.

Always on hand at home. It's been a deer and fish camp staple for decades.

Browned with a couple of poached eggs on top and a little on the side to eat with ketchup. Or…a small pile with one poached egg on it, another poached egg on toast and a small pile with a little ketchup. We usually have a couple times a month.
Posted By: kenoh2 Re: Corned beef hash - 02/06/23
I prefer Hormel sausage hash to their corned beef or roast beef hash.

Love the stuff. It is saltier than a cheated whore though.

Every once in a while I’ll make some homemade hash out of whatever left over meat is in the fridge. Usually pretty good.

Hahaha!

Yeah...no kidding right?

It just seems like a bad move to eat a day and a half worth of sodium in one sitting!
Posted By: mtj21 Re: Corned beef hash - 02/06/23
Only better to me is the roast beef hash from Hormel. I always have 3-4 cans of each. Half dozen eggs and a side, well the whole can of cold pork & beans. Good eating.
Posted By: Aagaardsporter Re: Corned beef hash - 02/06/23
Yup, browned in the skillet with some eggs over easy!

I just discovered the hormel canned stuff a year or two ago. I was looking for canned food options for home food storage that packed a lot of calories and fat in a can. We bought a can first to try and everyone liked it fried crisp with a fried egg on top.

I went back and but 2 or 3 cases for the food storage but I need to go buy more because we've already used up our supply. The kids request it every other week or so. I'll make some homemade this year with the ST Patty's day leftovers. The leftover traditionally goes to make ruebins on the panini grill.

Corned beef hash is the perfect meal to lay in a day's worth of energy for whittling sticks down on the shady side of Ye Olde Courthouse. Harrumph, harrumph.....

Ketchup neutralizes the salt.
I heard it on here from a low post count member who claims to be a dietician to the stars.
Madonna loves corn beef hash.
So does Angelina Jolie
And all their little adopted niglets too.

Plastic spoon outta the can squirt ketchup on as needed

Seems like we used to get it when I was in the army once in a while . Just about the only thing they couldn't screw up and I usually asked for seconds when it was on the menu...

Haven't had it in a while- thanks for the reminder. I'm going to have to pick some up and keep it on the shelf...

A corned beef hash and cheese omelet is my standard order at iHop. Been a few years though. They need to brown it before filling the omelet, but never have.

Too many carbs for me now, except on a cheat day. Terrible stuff, and delicious, just don’t look too close or ask too many questions…..

My wife likes it. Looks like dog food to me.
Enough Heinz and Tabasco and it's OK.

If I want hash, I want to start with garlic, potatoes and corned beef.

I am with you on this. When the wife is gone and I am batching it out comes a fry pan, dump in a can of Mary Kitchen and a can of Hunt's diced tomatoes.

Hormel makes a reduced sodium hash that is very good. Still salty enough that I don't have to add any salt.

My Grandma used to make it, when I was a kid, good stuff!

As I recall, it was normally done from leftover beef roast and the veggies. Beef, potatoes, carrots, onions, etc. Run them thru a hand-crank grinder. Probably added some eggs, but I was too stupid to watch much. Formed into patties and fried. Wish I could go back in time and watch her do it now.

MUCH better than that canned stuff.

Been a sucker for it since my earliest memories.

Best = homemade, using leftover smoked brisket. That stuff is > than Mary Kitchen, which is >> than Armour. The latter is greasy & underseasoned.

Just make it with peppers onions and leftover meats/fish. A few eggs, and about 1/4 cup black pepper. That's low carb.

Make a trip to Idaho falls and stock up at winco. The homeless is $2.68 a can. I've got to pick up a few more cases when I get home from Hawaii. I ordered some Hawaiian style at a restaurant on oahu it is was a small little patty and not very good especially for the high price. But that restaurant also charged $20 per kid for an order of pancakes. Food is never cheap in Hawaii but it's much worse under biden.
