My favorite westerns are "Once Upon a Time in the West" and " Josey Wales".....hard to beat the actors in them. Jason Robards, Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda, Jack Elam, Clint Eastwood might have missed a few. Bronson is one tough dude in this movie. Watched it a few days ago....never gets old.
Put me down for Henry Fonda. Modern day they are mostly prima donnas. Tom Hardy does stand out though. Idris Elba has had some good roles And Denzel Washington.
Most actors are the same person every part. Daniel Day Lewis and Gary Oldman are two that can become someone totally different in every roll.
I agree. Whether an actor is typecast, or whether they lack depth, the result is the same. Bruce Willis is one who seemed typecast and having shallow abilities, but watching him in Death Becomes Her, and The Sixth Sense changed my mind quickly.
I haven't watched Daniel Day Lewis in much, but Oldman is definitely a chameleon.
Robert Duvall. He's a genuine actor,..can assume many roles and play them convincingly.
He was Tom Hagan, the Consigliere of the Godfather. He was Augustus McRae, a Texas Ranger turned trail boss in Lonesome Dove, and Mac Sledge, a washed up country singer who reclaimed a simple way of life in the movie Tender Mercies. He won an Oscar for that role.

Dwayne " the rock' Johnson. Not because of his ability, but because he is smart enough to get payed to play'The rock" in each and every film or tv appearance he has ever been in.
My mom (God bless her soul) LOVED Charlton Heston - ever since the Ten Commandments. In 2000, he and Wayne LaPuke were stumping for Bush. They made the circuit near our hometown. My mom heard about it and said she just had to see Charlton. We arranged to make the rally and were in the 4th row. My mom wasn't as passionate about the NRA backed rally as she was seeing "Moses". When he came out to speak, mom - 75 years young and all of 4'10" tall - stood up on her folding chair and yelled "hi Charlton!". He paused and acknowledged her. Later, he even signed an autographed photo and gave it to her.

Denzel might be one of the very best. So good that I can't freaking stand him, & that's probably from him playing a villain so well.
A black guy told me I didn't like him because he was black. And I told him quickly that didn't have a damn thing to do with it as Samuel Jackson was a favorite actor & he was a liberal POS. just talking acting, not color.
This is a tough question to answer- a lot like the thread about the best football player..
Robert Duvall is a consummate actor- even in some of his more minor roles I sometimes find on cable... and there are a lot of other actors I could recite here but the one I always remember is Denzel Washington.. his role in "Man on Fire" cemented it for sure for me, but he has been in several others that I could watch over and over...
Have seen but very little of his work so I didn''t mention him. But saw him in a love story or light dama type thing, & then................in American History X, immediately told me that he was a very good& versatile actor. Good gosh, just a couple of his scenes alone in AHX make the movie worth watching again.

Hard to say, I got a lot of favorite actors but I left the Batman movie with that guy playing The Joker that died....dammm I believed he was actually THE joker...
