Right now:
The judges choose their own successors;
the head justice chooses which judges hear any particular case;
The court can cancel any laws created by the legislative branch; and,
The judges can deny any political office appointments made by the P.M.

The problem seems to be the Supreme court is filled with leftists and liberals. Nothing the Knesset does, stays. The Supreme court overturns it. Ben Netanyahu got tired of it and wants to change the laws to give the executive branch more authority to make decisions.
