I'm asking you to supply me alternative sources, so I can see how badly I got ripped off, you are the one that said I got ripped off, show me how bad.

I'm telling members here that R-26 is available again, but it is crazy expensive.
You are the one that said I got ripped off. I'm now asking you to prove I got ripped off by posting alternative sources.

So far you have failed to do so.

Local gun store had CCI .22 LR SV for sale. $20/box of 100. This was about 2 weeks ago.

That's a good price.

Powder Valley lists it at $49/Lb

Guess it isn't any worse than $100 for a brick of primers or $80 for 8 oz of Blackhorn 209. If you need it your gonna pay. Not saying it don't suck but......

How is one taking advantage?

If you don't like the price don't buy the product.

I guess MOST people don't won't to accept these are the new prices. If you can't accept the prices sell your reloading gear.

I'm going to wait most of this out. Now that the US and EU are doubling down on defense production, in a few years there will be tons of surplus.

New prices must not have hit here just yet.
Posted By: SKane Re: Reloader 26, WOW - 08/27/23
Alliant has had numerous price hikes in the last two years. R17, 19, 22 and 26 are all in the neighborhood of $60/lb from Powder Valley - IF they've got it in stock. And that's before Hazmat fees.

I don't know why I am bothering, cuz this is 101 stuff and you'll have some lame excuses anyway......

IF something is deemed a critical item, ESPECIALLY in market prone to shortages and price escalations:

Don't wait until the last minute. Plan ahead.
1. Stock up when you can (that's different than hoarding).
2. Develop alternatives. In this case, H1000, V565, etc.
3. Use a different rifle you can load for (you have lots, right?)
4. Buy stuff with your buddies to cut the hazmat, shipping, etc.

If you decide to sit on your ass, procrastinate and buy in the spot market at a retail store when urgency strikes, don't bitch about the price and play the victim.

I'll take that as a NO.

As for my reloading stock, I have more powder, primers, bullets, brass, lead, linotype, wads, hulls, lead shot, steel shot and gas checks than most. Enough to last well past my lifetime and well into my son's golden years.

OH, and who said anything about waiting till the "Last Minute" , Never said I Needed the R-26, or was out of R-26, said I have been looking for it as I am looking for Magnum. I found some, I bought some, if I find more cheaper, I will by more. Otherwise I am good with the 5 1/2 pounds that I have.

I check PV, and all my other online sources at least two-three times a week.

Reloader Powders, especially the slow burners have been unobtainable for well over a year.

If and when PV gets some R-26 in stock, I'm pretty sure it will be more than $58/Lb.

I,dgladly pay that if I could get a pound of Reloder 22 . I have'nt seen any at my local get it places in 2 years .

Plenty of gouging at dealer and distributor levels, but, as long as they think the market will bear it.

I don’t think it will for much longer, fwiw. I don’t think we’ll see $20/lb powder and $30/1000 primers again, but I think it’ll drop in the next 12 months. Then we’ll have another election and idiots will start filling their garages again…..

It's called supply and demand.

Bad: He paid a ransom.

Good: He got a pound of RL-26.

He evidently wanted it bad enough to pay the ransom, didn't have to.

Vendor's choice to crank up the price, customer's choice to pay it.

Don't see the heart burn from others about a business transaction between two consenting parties.

3. $187,000 Raptor PU Truck.

This must be some AI experiment gone wrong on CF.

Gunwriter pricing 👍 🤣
Posted By: BuzzH Re: Reloader 26, WOW - 08/27/23
That price is ridiculous, damn near $700 for 8 lbs.

Probably a bit cheaper in 8lb cans, but even $600 is steep.

Before things went crazy I bought 2 8lb cans of 4831 for $160 each, 8lbs of varget for $190, and 8 lbs of H380 for $130.

Is what it is and I have enough of everything to last me for 10 years plus.

On the plus side I have been seeing a lot of powders back in stock at least.
Posted By: gunzo Re: Reloader 26, WOW - 08/27/23
I just googled both Re powders. Found 26 at Hunters precision & 22 there & Midwest powders. One of those 2 places had a $31 flat rate ship & took the quantity up to 4# & the ship cost remained at 31.

Ammoseek shows vendors w/CCI standard vel. under 7 cents, One place had case lots for 6.5 cents & free shipping.

Its plenty for a hunting rifle, ive got enough for my life time and probably some for my grandson for my 17,20 and 22 cals I shoot sage rats at some years I will shoot 3,000 rounds maybe more in a good year. I learned long ago with the first to " shortages" before this B.S. biggest difference is before people said F.U. and prices came way down after 6 months.
Whats interesting is blame the Dems for everything but walk in a store and flop down a Benny and think nothing of it for something you really don't need, there's alternatives ya just gotta be willing to look if you shoot enough you know that.
Do you realize There's really only 3 powder company's and Hodgen owns most.
Vista owns 90 % of the primers, this is price control at its finest
Jesus man Google Vista profits in 2021 and 2022.
Hell Google 1rst quarter profits of 2023 on the biggest egg producer in the U.S. 700% its not rocket science

The biggest problem is gun owners and reloaders have become there own worst enemy.
Do you really think if people like you would just say F.U I'm not paying the prices for just 6 months make do with the 450 rounds you got or shoot a gun that is alot cheaper to shoot like say just a 223 you would pay 83.00?
I get practice why do you think I have the small cals I have, a few I can get 500 rounds out of a pound of powder.

You think its funny, you obviously haven't been in the reloading game long.
Keep blaming the Dems for everything, look in the mirror.
Oh I by the way I'm NOT A DEM, never voted for one in my life but like I said I choose to be part of the solution instead of BITCH about the Dems for everything but choose to be part of the problem

You are correct, I haven’t been reloading that long , I’m 67, started loading shotshell when I was 13. My first press was a MEC 600 jr I believe, set up for 12 gauge.

Didn’t start handloading Rifles till much later, late 20’s if I recall. Started handgun even later.

Casting is my newest adventure, prolly only been casting bullets for 10 or so years.

So, yeah, I’m pretty green at the whole concept. Got any pointers for this greenhorn?

They must like you better. I just checked. $57.99 for Reloader 26, but out of stock.

I just rechecked PV and its now $59.99 a pound--and out of stock.

Also looked at Midway USA at the same time as PV earlier. Back then Midway listed it $45.99 a pound before shipping--and now it's $61.99. But both times it was out of stock.

I'm telling members here that R-26 is available again, but it is crazy expensive.
You are the one that said I got ripped off. I'm now asking you to prove I got ripped off by posting alternative sources.

So far you have failed to do so.

If you're too dumb to realize you got hosed, then you deserve to pay a 30% premium. The very few times Natchez or Powder Valley has had it, it was $58/lb.

OH, that's right, they don't have any and haven't for almost two years. Think if and when it becomes available it will still sell for $58/Lb.

Now who is being dumb.

I can look the other way and giggle that you paid that much for RL-26

but buying a 6.5 PRC and posting about it on a public forum is shameful & unforgivable

The dumbasses are the ones who didn't buy enough [bleep] to last them along while through this B.S. you claim you've been reolding for years well whats your excuse for not having enough 26, it was readily available about 3 years ago when I bought mine.

No, it hasn't been. It may have always been out of stock when you checked in, but here's a screenshot of the comments on their site. The post is from July 31, 2023.

[Linked Image]

Wish I'd taken a screenshot of their site when I found RL-26 listed a few hours ago, but suspect like any hard to find powder it's often sold out within minutes, especially after somebody on a forum like this mentions that it's available. In this instance it might have been me.

Which is also probably why the listed price for "out of stock" RL-26 has gone up since I checked PV a couple hours later. Internet sellers often gauge demand by hits on their website, and adjust prices accordingly.

If you can't read the screenshot clearly enough, the post is on Powder Valley's site, in the "Review and Questions" section.

Why would I be hung up on 450 rounds when probably have enough primer, powder and bullets to load 15-20,000 of stuff just for my small cals alone.
Its called planning and learning from previous B.S
I shoot alot i guarantee more than most except competition shooters.
Last 8lb jug of powder I bought was 180.00 of AA2200 2 years ago from my local LGS for my 17 and 20' now I got 32lb which will load around 12- 13,000 rounds that I use it in.
Only primers I've bought in last 5 years was probably 200 pistol primers for my 44 mag which I barely shoot.

Posted By: Mule Deer Re: Reloader 26, WOW - 08/28/23
Yep, and it has been since WWII, when not only handloading supplies but hunting ammo were apparently very scarce.

The first "shortage" I experience was during the Clinton administration, when primers disappeared for over a year. Since then it happens whenever a D is elected, or reelected. Any handloaded who hasn't stocked up is either too young to have seen the previous shortages, or hasn't learned. I've had to help out a few local friends about my age who somehow are surprised when they can't always pick up 100 primers at local stores....

Remember they were also discussing adding taggants to gunpowder to accelerate the degradation of the powder...

Last 8# jugs of RE 26 I saw offered at a gunshow 2.5 years ago were priced at $800. I passed.

Last year traded 2# of Retumbo straight up for 2# of RE 26. Shipping both ways through Fed X was $26 total which we split.

My usual LGS supplier said two weeks ago that he has not seen RE 26 in over two years.

Starting to see primers available at premiums but still under $80/M.

Strange times we live in.
Posted By: BigDave39355 Re: Reloader 26, WOW - 08/28/23
Are Fiochi large rifle primers any good?

Semi local LGS had em by the case.
Posted By: Ernie_Scar Re: Reloader 26, WOW - 08/28/23
I just bought an 8lb jug of 26 for $250 and I felt that was fair and so did the guy who sold it to me. I bought 1000 federal 210’s and 1000 215’s for $150, while not excited about paying that much for primers I felt I made out well enough on the 26 to offset that cost. 26 has been about as rare as hens teeth here in Alaska since inception.
Posted By: Jim1611 Re: Reloader 26, WOW - 08/28/23
Grad and Sons is a local store to me and the guys that work in the retail part tell me they haven't had a shipment from Alliant for well over a year. They won't even put anyone on a waiting list any more. For something that puts a 30-06 or .270 in the magnum FPS range it's no wonder it's popular.

If you RL26 guys are so in love with it why the HELL didn't you buy more 3 years ago, you guys act like its the only powder out there. Theres alot of Accurate powder out there at a Helluva alot better price, while it may not be the temp stable out there it will work untill things get better but it sure as Hell won't walking in a store flopping down a 100.00 bill.

Yes it is and the velocity out of my 300 win is the highest that I've ever gotten with another powder.
Magro is in the correct burn range for the OP

Magpro is an excellent slow burn spherical powder that produces outstanding velocity in such cartridges as the 270 Winchester and the 280 Remington and 300 Win mag. These are the 3 cartridges that I have tried with Magpro so for.
24" barrel 300 win, 180 gr. TTSX 85.7 gr. 3154 FPS, the same load in a 29" barrel produced 3213 FPS.
In the 280 Remington 65.7 grains produced 3132 FPS

For the 280 I used 270 Winchester 130 load data for the TTSX since the two have nearly the same SD. I wanted to load the 280 to the same pressure as the 270 Winchester

Magpro and Ramshot Magnum would be another one around same burnrate as 26 that seems to be out there.
Think outside the box and its doable.

Gas will go bad before that day comes.

I was being facetious. It gets tedious hearing 70-80 yo douche bags bragging about their reloading component stockpiles and belittling anyone who didn’t have the wherewithal to do the same.

What's the saying about a fool and his money...
Twas looking through my stash just the other day. $180 for an 8lb keg of Varget. Thought to myself "that's too much!"
😛

I've been halfheartedly looking for RL26 since before the Kung Flu. Found some once, but it was way too expensive. Maybe one day prices will begin to come down to more realistic levels.

And, it's available. smile

Yes it is and the velocity out of my 300 win is the highest that I've ever gotten with another powder.
Magro is in the correct burn range for the OP

I have 16 pounds of Magpro

I have several pounds of MagPro. In my 6.5 PRC, the accuracy just wasn’t there, Magnum was much better than MP, but R-26 was the best.
