They no longer own the news.

I find this an interesting story about just who "owns" the news.

Thanks to the internet and (shrinking) press freedoms, legacy media outlets no longer have a monopoly on information and narratives.

Case in point, during a WEF discussion at Davos entitled "Defending Truth," Wall St. Journal EIC Emma Tucker lamented this loss of control over 'the facts,' as Modernity.news reports.

"I think there’s a very specific challenge for the legacy brands, like the New York Times and like the Wall Street Journal," Tucker said, adding "If you go back really not that long ago, as I say, we owned the news. We were the gatekeepers, and we very much owned the facts as well."

"If it said it in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, then that was a fact," she continued, adding "Nowadays, people can go to all sorts of different sources for the news and they’re much more questioning about what we’re saying."

Nobody owns the facts. The facts are, well, the facts.

Now, the spin, that's another matter.
Maybe if you hadn't lied to us so many times about so many things, Emma. We keep track of that kind of thing.

Okie John
These are just the death throes of an industry.

Learn to code.
Well, they have been able to fool a lot of people a long time into thinking they weren't controlled by the left.
AI will dominate real and fabricated news in the near future. Like right now.
They never owned the news, they owned propaganda, big difference.
It's about money.

When your money comes from a subscriber base, you need to cater to that base.

That means you can't report facts, you report lies to your subscribers, to keep the money train rolling.

So reporting facts doesn't matter.

LMAO !!

Witty. Very witty.

It’s not just the lies and bias, it’s the news they don’t cover.

You ain't wrong.

I never would have thought that of you - no offense.. smile
^^^

Nor me of you.
Dear Emma: You and your type are the very ones who arrogantly pooped in your own nest until it got full - so you own your lament.

Sorry, honey.

They're upset that they only own the pipeline, not the news these days. And there are many pipelines. Some even get close to the truth.. sometimes.
Mainstream is all propaganda all the time. When Chinese people visit America they are surprised to see we watch news channels at all. They say no one watches news channels in China because they all know its propaganda. That's how it'll be here soon. I don't even watch fox anymore.

they fought it with everything they had - but when the revenue dried up , they stopped investing in investigative journalism and chose to go with editorial reporting, where a talking head gives their opinion on the state of things and told anyone who would listen the fate of the world rested on their integrity.

Meanwhile one or two guys who never attended a liberal arts school on journalism can go on Youtube ,crank out a high quality video on breaking news or an in depth report, get 2m views and make $75K on it.

Journalism isn't dead, its been wrested away from the corporations and put in the hands of the people. The consumers are telling them they are fine with having to wade thru a bunch of lies and garbage to get their news on social media, because at least they can get an alternative opinion of the lies and garbage the mass media is pushing.
Kinda.

Our “news” was full of propaganda during WWii.
Probably before.

And the only changes have been away from nationalism, to globalism.

Look back at the Cold War, weapons specifically.
The MIC kept us up nights eating Roll Aids over the planes, tanks, ships, subs, and warheads the Soviet Union had.

We now know that was a joke.
“Quantity has its own qualities”
Their quality was absent, performance was not as advertised.

We know that now,
The intelligence folks knew much of it then.
They all lied.
Partly to bleed Russia, largely to bleed US.

Hearst was notorious for using his newspapers to ruin people.
Seems like just telling the truth with no prejudice either way would be profitable and much easier.

you'd think so

I don't think any kid who grew up wanting to be a journalist started out thinking they should lie and mislead the public, but somewhere along the way it happens to a great many of them.

Yep, propaganda was used to stir up war with Spain, one of the worst moves the U.S. ever made. People were thrown in jail in WW1 for disputing the official story.

Nobody is going to watch the story that leads with "light snow tonight, shouldn't amount to much", nor "agricultural bill introduced includes slightly changed means tests for handouts".

You want eyeballs for your advertisers?

SNOWMAGEDDON!

"Poor blacks going to die in the street from starvation because of white supremacists!"

They even told us they they were propagandists.
Who remembers when Mika Brzezinski made this Freudian slip?

Mika Brzezinski: It's our job to control exactly what people think

Several good points made by contributors to this thread. I would like to add the WEF/NWO participants purchased control of the MSM and they still pretty much control what is reported and how it is spun. Both points have already been made. The facts are the facts, that has been said earlier also. What we get from the MSM is someone’s opinion of what happened. Good to know the evil ones are figuring out they are losing their influence nd people are finding other sources. Now to abolish censoring and restore the First Ammendment rights.

Not the "death throes" of an old industry, but the "first breath" of a new one ... and not necessarily a "good" one!

Same here. Fox is as bad as the others. I havent watched any of them for a very long time. Too many other sources to find what is actually going on out there

Most people dont know this because it isnt taught in any schools. Woody Wilson was having americans jailed for disputing the lies his administration was spewing. Yes, right here in the good ole USA!

Thats exactly why they demand to have censorship all across the web. They cant win on facts and the facts pushes their evils asses out from the shadows

Yes- they can see it slightly slipping away and they're in panic mode to regain lost ground.

gunchamp - right-on ..
I've known this since the 90's and it wasn't much of a secret back then even. The Editor in Chief of the Local rag gave a presentation in a media relations course I was taking. He asked us what the #1 job of the newspaper was. The answers ran the typical gauntlet of reporting the truth and various iterations of that theme. He stunned most of the class by telling us that those were all good, altruistic and naive answers; but they were all wrong. The #1 job of the newspaper is to sell newspapers!

Samuel Clemens told us as much 100 years ago: "If you don't read the paper, you're uninformed. If you do read the paper, you're misinformed"

And if they are successful, it will be about complete control of our everyday lives. You will be eating bugs whether you like it or not.
