The guy who thought up the concept of bottled water was a genius, who’d a thought it would ever be a go back then?

Of course, every bit of plastic ever made is still out there somewhere.

Or in your guts, as most people in the US average ingesting about 5 grams a week. Think estrogen like effects, cancer, Vascular plaques, strokes, myocardial infarcts, .....

Selleck, the Water Thief?

There isn't anything much better than Avocado to eat on so many things. Nor so healthy for so many reasons.

Avocados are truly packed with nutrition, and there are several reasons to love them:

Excellent source of nutrients: Avocados are high in a number of important nutrients, including healthy fats and fiber. They contain vitamins C, E, K, B6, riboflavin, niacin, folate, magnesium, and potassium. Half of an avocado packs 10% of the daily value for potassium, which is essential for blood pressure regulation and nervous system function. Getting enough potassium may help protect against hypertension and stroke1.
Heart-healthy monounsaturated fats: Avocados are a great source of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. These fats help lower “bad” LDL cholesterol and raise “good” HDL cholesterol. Extra-virgin olive oil is also a good choice for monounsaturated fats, as it contains other bioactives that can protect the brain1.
Rich in antioxidants: Avocados contain lutein, an antioxidant associated with cognitive benefits. Regular consumption of avocados has been linked to improved sustained attention, working memory, and problem-solving skills1.
Satiety and weight management: The fiber content in avocados makes them a satisfying snack or addition to any dish. They can help with weight management due to their role in satiety and satiation1.
However, if you’re looking for alternatives to avocados, consider the following options:

Leafy green vegetables: These provide similar brain-boosting lutein as avocados.
Egg yolks: Rich in nutrients and healthy fats.
Pistachios: A good choice for their omega-3 content.
Extra-virgin olive oil: Contains monounsaturated fats and other brain-protective bioactives.
Pumpkin or butternut squash puree: Offers a similar texture to avocados.
Mashed banana or nut/seed butter: Lends a creamy mouthfeel23.
Remember that while these substitutes may not be identical to avocados, they can still provide similar nutritional benefits or texture in your recipes. Choose the one that best suits your culinary needs!

Bet they are free, because the best ones are free. Even better than stolen ones from the orchard up the hill.

Best ones ever were from my "uncle's" place near Escondido. I was a starving student and stopped by his place on the way back up to school one Christmas vacation. He said as I was leaving "I have something out in the garage for you" and presented me with a lug of them. I wasn't a fan of avos, could take or leave them. I learned to love them as I certainly couldn't afford them on my limited food budget at the time.

Love the darn things…..
Used to haul them by the 18 wheeler load from the San Jose California area to the Los Angeles produce market. A few didn't survive the trip, on a regular basis!

I was speaking in generalities from personal SoMexiCali experience but your example proves my statement.

Home grown aguacates are tree ripened and not gassed like the commercial ones you get at the store thus eaten as nature intended.

Free is always nice.

I may have to move to Florida, FLA
I’ll put a Puerto Rican one against any other. Amazing
Posted By: Rapier Re: Avocados from Mexico - 04/13/24
Avocados, Mangoes and Mulberry trees grow wild south of the tropical line in FL, had the trees in our yard. Hayden is the best mango, Avacado is best with cider vinegar in a bowl, Mullberry goes great with anything but a white vehicle. :-)
Grew up in the glades on the big lake, was a fishing guide on the lake at 9. Watched for rods and reels with plastic bobbers. Alway tourists, had no idea about fishing on the lake. Boy, you get any bites today? I would pull up my 4' fish stringer. Made $20 right then.

I have 5 avacado trees in my back yard. They are good when you pick them off your own tree. The only problem is the critters seem to get a lot more of them than I do.

You can take an avocado that has been cut open and put what you don't eat inside a jar submerged in water and it will keep for a few weeks without turning black.

Yep, I was correct. In over 41 years we have not purchased or brought into our house an avacado.

We have both tasted guacamole a couple times when out and about. We would both rather leave it than take it.

I know avacodo seeds will grow into cute house plants if suspended in a cup of water in the window behind the kitchen sink. Mom did that once.

The Mexicans can just keep all their avacados.

Neighbor woman last week brought me over a big pot of Menudo, then a couple days later beef stew. After eating off both of those for a few days, I added to the leftovers some pinto beans and rice. Having it cooking with a beef roast tonight.

After watching the kid climb to get one for flave's pina colada (or whatever it was) Coconut seems like an appropriate nickname.

I hope the kid is successful in his chosen work.

If you are only going to eat a half, eat the one without the seed. The half with the seed left in will keep fresh longer.
But really, who only eats a half?

I "heard" that fiberglass burn just like gasoline. The plastic that people but in their recycle bin is just buried in the local sanitary land fill.

I do miss living in a warm climate where those things, and other fruit grows. Peach tree in back is just starting to show some color in the buds and it'll probably freeze before it gets to set fruit.
