I think one with a modern 5.0 mod motor and a huffer would be the best of both worlds. 6 speed behind it.
Posted By: stxhunter Re: Hey Northern Dave.... - 05/28/10
it was free

My first car was a '70 Maverick "Grabber" in (what else) Grabber Orange with black stripes. It had a 200 C.I. 6-banger with auto trans. I don't think the V-8 was available until a couple of years later.

Never had a Maverick but I did have a Falcon and all it was was a Maverick in and if you owned either one that's what you got was a Falcon.

A buddy of mine drove a toyota station wagon in high school.

We called it "The Yoda". That car became famous. It became a big deal to have a piece of the yoda. Folks would tear pieces off, all the beautiful faux wood trim got torn off and the vents in the grill.

The pic below is a stripped down model. The yoda had wood grain stickers on the sides and plastic 1x4 trim. It wasn't in pristine condition to say the least, it looked like a rape victim.

maverick/schmaverick....... A good ol' Pinto, with a roof rack (and better gas mileage) beats a mav or mustang as a huntin' buggy......

Posted By: tzone Re: Hey Northern Dave.... - 05/28/10
My dad bought one of those for my sister when I was 13. Nearly the same color. I had to show her how to do a power break because he wouldn't. grin

She let her friend borrow it to run to the store, and her friend rolled it and totalled it out.

Pretty ugly suckers, but if a guy wanted to Pro-Street something, I'd take that over a Vega any day.

I hope I never see another one of my first cars.... 1981 AMC Concord wagon. POS. Had to add oil and check the gas at every gas station. She burned a quart every 40 miles. It had 287,000 miles when I blew it up. grin

As far as the Pinto is concerned I've always said that Ralph Nader went after the wrong car. It should have been a Pinto instead of the Caviar as the Pinto so lite in the rear end if you didn't watch it it would try and swap ends on you.

I couldn't agree with you more, Tzone. My first car was a '79 Chevette 4dr. and like your Concord, it used more oil than gas. I used to keep all the oil from changes my Dad did on our other vehicles and dump it in that car. I didn't like that car much, but I do have some good memories of things that happened in it. smile
