Garth Brooks on Obama: I Love Him to Death; It's Got to Be Hell In That Office
Tuesday, March 22, 2011
By Nicholas Ballasy

(CNSNews.com) - Grammy award-winning singer Garth Brooks told CNSNews.com that he "fully" supports President Barack Obama and that it must be "hell" serving as President of the United States.

Before his performance at the Points of Light Institute's ceremony honoring former President George H. W. Bush at the Kennedy Center on Monday, Brooks was asked if President Obama has lived up to his expectations.

"Yeah, I think what President Obama is finding out is all that we want to do, the system kind of doesn't allow the most powerful guy in the world to kind of do his job and I'm sure nobody's more frustrated than him to complete those promises that he did and I think he's trying his heart out. I love him to death and I fully support him and I just wish him well because it's got to be hell in that office," said Brooks.

Brooks' comments come as many celebrities who supported President Obama in the 2008 election including Matt Damon and Barbra Streisand have publicly expressed disappointment in President Obama.

Brooks, the closing act in the ceremony, also said the entire political system in America has him "concerned."

"The whole political system kind of has me concerned right now to tell you the truth --200 years old and we might think of about, you know, kind of kicking it in the ass a little bit. It just seems like we vote for things because they're Republican or Democratic," he told CNSNews.com.

"I think we should vote for them because they're right or wrong and we kind of have seemed to have fallen into that trap so that would be the one warning I would give all us," he said. "Put down where you're from and what flag you fly under and let's get to putting the best person, man or women in the office and let's start making some strides."

When asked for a specific example, Brooks said, "For me, it's if my guy didn't get in then I drag my feet for four years and we don't get anywhere and if my guy gets in, you drag your feet for four years and we don't get anywhere," he said. "We've got to stop doing that. Once we get there let's try to be four years down the road further than we were and let's see what happens. Let's all work together and that's kind of what this is all about tonight."
And "Brokeback Mountain" is his favorite movie. Say it ain't so Garth!
Brooks is OD ing on the cheese dip, cant believe he's a butt smoochin broke back spinless liberal,
Got a skeet shoot weekend after next, guess whos CD's are gonna get it.

Gunner
well, didn't he marry that fat skank singer?

Damn bender, we must think alike on this, swear I didnt copy LOL

It's sad and disapointing that this man could be so stupid.
well in one respect, he was spot on when he sang "I got friends in low places"
This doesn't surprise me in the least... The Chris Gaines trick gave this away long ago.

Just because they can sing or write a country tune doesn't mean anything. So much goes into the makin' of an image. I've got an acquaintance who is currently a rising star and who I see on TV ain't the person I have known.
Barf Brooks never was the brightest bulb in the box...

And he did it at a ceremony for Bush Sr?!?

Not sure if he has truly turned, has been hiding it all along, or is playing the part of the politician that he claims to not like; the one who plays both sides of the fence. Oh wait, that was in one of his songs too, wasn't it...? whistle

I love my country music, but must say, that after his very first stuff (which wasn't bad), I had no desire to listen to him. Starting getting too loud and fast for my tastes. He wanted to appeal to everyone, and in so doing, lost a lot of his "root" appeal. Hmm... kinda like this stunt, again....
Many years ago I saw him on SNL, forget what the skit was
about but it featured Garth in drag playing a French ho...

It just looked like he was awful at ease with it, like it
came natural, not a stretch.

Nothing about him surprised me since then.
Barack Obama has lived up to my expectations as well. I never expected him to be worth squat and I have not been disappointed.
He's a great president, Mickey. Got Americans up off of their sorry, apathetic azzes. Give him some credit.

Can you say "Tea Party"? Can you say "Obamacare and the fallout from that"? He has given us 'hope and change'.

You may have missed the point.
Still ain't no surprises here...

yes he has, he's continued our presence in Iraq, increased our presence in Afghanistan, kept the borders open to Mexico, even sent the poor bastids some good hardware, lobbed some missiles at Libya.....

been on some great vacations, filled out his NCAA tourney chart

helped bail out some very needy Wall St. guys....

geez what do you want from one guy?
It doesnt matter what Garth Brooks says

Just stop buying his cr@p and vote in 2012.

These guys all get caught up in the Hollywood Sean and their fans are no longer their friends

they want to be loved by the media and other celebrities.
Looks like I have a few more targets now for shotgun practice! What a dumb [bleep]!
Final proof that folks in the music industry....are just as 'stoopid' as the Hollyweird set!!

grin I love it when reality hits home and you good ol' boys are faced with the fact every liberal wasn't hatched in CA...but sure as hell, he'll end up here.
So, who's boycotting?
Well, Garth did go to Oklahoma State! grin

BOOMER SOONER!

Pithy and well-said!

This dumb-shiit like the ditsee chicks has earned a life-long boycott from me. Never payed much attention to brooks' music - now I know why.

Won't do much but make me feel good!

Used to like Trisha yearwood, but methinks that's changed too. Guilt by association? Yup.

laugh laugh grin
Ol' Garth doesn't care. He's laughing all the way to the bank. He did a series of concerts recently in N'ville. The place was sold out. He can say and do as he pleases, people will pay big dollars to hear him.

Perzactly right there Barkoff, to bad that libtardidus is so damn contagious for some.

Gunner
I've never really cared for Garth's music. His notions about politics are even worse. Maybe he should retire again...

My sentiments exactly. Were it possible I'd shake your hand on that Sir.

Don't forget that Garth wrote a song (I forget which one), to support Slick Willy during the whole Lewiniski scandal.

Garth's early music was fantastic, but when he got on his whole "I'm sincere, really!" bit, I lost all interest in him.

Brian.

And don't forget Garth's support of various liberal idiots running for office in years past here in Oklahoma. Anyone remember the campaign ads for Dave McCurdy for senate in '94? I can't believe this is all news to everyone else all of a sudden.

What do you expect for a bunch of idiots who were orange year-round, graduated Dexter Manley, and have their football field running east-west.
Garth is a fake. only got into country music because he couldn't make it in rock.
Seems he did ok.

Note that brains and vocal cords are not necessarily attached.

And skull-[bleep] it and ran it into the ground so deep it may never fully recover. Just look at the jackasses that claim to be "country" artists today.
Garth talking about country music or politics is like Kenny Chesney talking about chicks. Neither one has any experience.....

THIS was country -

He did. I said so.

Here's a guy who never gets the recognition he deserves:

hes a good one....so is...

What a lot of people don't realize about Garth is he graduated from that convict school in Stillwater with a degree in marketing. He's been able to create a (now fading) superstar image out of someone who would otherwise be a lardass, balding, karaoke singer wannabe. I've never drank that Kool-Aid and I never could get the appeal.

And now more of what country music used to be:

Garth Brooks isn't the only left wing Country singer, Tim McGraw is a socialist himself, as well as Faith Hill, Willie Nelson and to a lesser degree, Randy Travis.

Lot of limousine liberals in Nashville and some of the country music stars get caught up in that social network.

Except Willie Nelson has talent and is likable, whether you agree with his politics or not.
Willie doesn't bother me, you know what you're getting with him, but supporting Dennis the Menace shows the dude has smoked too much herbage.
Garth has obviously caught the gay.
Was that

"Poor Billy, victim of a vast rightwing conspiracy
He never lied. He just reinterpreted the word 'is'
He didn't have sex with the women. Monica Lewinsky.
Poor Billy, vicim of a vast rightwing conspiracy"
Garth ain't no true okie. Disowned him here long ago...
Garth must be a liberal sucmbag.

I will never buy one of his CDs.

Don't worry, he hasn't done anything worth listening to since about 1994.

I've always thought it silly to give a crap what an entertainer has to say about anything. Who cares if Garth or the Dixie Chicks are liberals? Really. Does it really matter? I'd be surprised if the average musician or actor had any political education. And it's not like the successful ones have to worry much. So their opinion only counts as much as anyone's would.

Same with athletes. Just as silly to give a crap about how they vote.

Letting their opinions influence me will never happen. If I like their music/movies/sport, so be it. Doesn't mean I'm gonna suddenly value their opinion.

Take the Red Headed Stranger for example. Most of the conservatives I know that love country or folk music love him. Yet he's the most liberal, dope smokin, tax evading guy I know. Yet they don't care. Those same people flipped out about the Dixie Chicks and threw their CD's away. They let other people's opinions influence them into throwing out music they paid for and had enjoyed.

It's just silly.

I'll be the first to admit my hypocrisy though. I HATE Jane Fonda. But she's a little different. She actually rendered aid to the enemy and put our troops directly in danger. Much different than just speaking your political opinion.

You are right I could care less whether or not an entertainer is liberal or not, but what bugs me to no end are entertainers who think their own opinions worthy of preaching or offering up, as somehow more worthy. Stop Garth Brooks the next time you seem him somewhere, see how long he listens to your opinion.
Never gave two schits about Garth and his hat act then, sure as hell am not appalled by it now.

How 'bout that Liver Lips!! grin

Country aint been country since Hank and Moe and Johnny and Gene and Patsy and...

The new crowd is trash.
I happen to think that when Ernest Tubb and Buck Owens died, so did country music.

You're absolutely right. On both accounts. They have super inflated egos and probably wouldn't give me the time of day.

But the reason they think we (as in the general public) want to hear their opinions is because "we" keep listening. People in America idolize the famous way too much for their own good. Probably won't change just cuz I said it, so it is what it is.
Almost all celebrities are a bunch of azz kissin libs. I spend a lot of time in my truck and listen to the old radio shows on XM.
Nearly every actor it seems took time out from their careers to serve in the military, name me one that's done it in the past 20 years. They consider that the work of the serfs. I think Elvis was the last musical talent to join the Army.

You got that right. I remember sweating through Boot and hearing that POS Cassius Clay aka Mohammed Ali get a pass as a Conscientious Objector and he is made into a National Hero.
"I love him to death"; me too, just ain't happening soon enough! Merle's the man.
