My Wife, The mother of my four children is gravely ill. She was admitted to the Hospital on July 10th and released the following Friday. She went from being vibrant to an invalid in less than a week. There are more tests to be done including a pet scan but she just wants to sleep. I have a couple of the kids on the way to help out and am hoping they can get her to at least eat. God help my Wife. Those of you who believe please give her a thought. Bear

Had a co-worker who had almost the exact same thing. She was fine and in moments was unable to speak, walk, or stand up. Many test later she was found to have severe migranes. Here head wasn't even hurting, weird. But she is on medicne now and all is going good.

I tell you this as to the hopes your wife situation is something easily fixed.

HAJ yes please add her to the group she needs it! Jorge, I/we have no idea at this time, (even after a week in hospital), What we are deling with. Could be a rare infection they haven't found yet of I could be cancer. She has something "funny" on her chest Xray that a CT scan did not clarify so next step is more labs, twice a week, and a pet scan. She is home but not able to get around so am having labs drawn here at the house. THANKS FOR THE MANY REPLY'S.

biggest scare of my life was when my wife had an ovarian cyst burst and damn near bled to death internally on me while i was trying to convince a doctor there was something seriously wrong with her......ended up packing her up in the truck and hauling her to the er the next town over to finally get her help....

My mother inlaw lost a good friend in 2-3 days. She never went to the doctor for 30 or more years. Finally had to go because the pain was so bad. It was too late and she died a few days later.

That's a horrible situation, and you have my prayers.

I'm sure the MD's have asked, but has she traveled anywhere in the past 6 months, been in contact with anyone who has been to tropical locales, and that sort of thing?

I'm reminded of story where a guy had various symptoms - rash, headaches, fatigue, etc, and went to his MD in NYC. Checked him out, and treated him for something simple and common.

Things got worse to the point he would awake at night to the sensation of his skin crawling. The imbecile failed to mention that he was one of these extreme triathletes and had competed in New Guinea, swimming in streams and running in the rain forest. The dude had contracted a wormy parasite that had multiplied greatly and was chewing him up. It took the Infectious and Tropical Disease guys to sort it out.

Well, Guys I don't have much to say this morning but Linda passed a comfortable night and has had a little to eat the Morning (one and 1/2 ounces of a fruit smoothie. My Daughter is here and more kids coming today to help out. Fingers crossed that we can get some apple sauce in her later. Yesterday it all went South and Linda was taken to the ER. Looks like septic shock.

This is the worst news we could have gotten and Linda is now fighting for her life. Family is here and the Docs are doing all they can. We got her stable enough to put her on dyalisus for a full six hours at a very low rate and she seems to be tolerating it well so far. I am told that she is still the sickest person in the hospital but there may be a slight glimmer of hope. We will draw labs in the AM and re-evaluate her then. Still unconshous but at least not in pain. More tomorrow. Bear

We have a friend of the family that got real sick, real fast, she was healthy, worked out daily, not sick hardly a day in her life, then just became real sick, they thought she had a bladder infection, treated her with antibiotics, no better, so her husband insisted they run a bunch of tests on her, and they found she had a rare disease that caused both kidneys to completely shut down, she is now in a list for a transplant, they diagnosed her with "Good Shepherds Syndrome", I had never heard of it, but she has been one sick lady... Just thought I would pass this along if they did not have a for sure diagnosis yet... We are continuing to pray for you, Linda and your family...

Things have been slowly progressing. Linda is still on full life support and may have lost her kidney due to the sepsis. Now the only good news I have is she is still alive and apparently fighting. We still do not know what the root cause of this is but she was strong enough to get a CT scan yesterday as well as ultrasound. Hope to have test results this morning. Not much news today. That is the good news. She isn't any worse. No results from the ct scan yet so hoping for the best there in the morning? Blood pressure slightly better. White count slightly higher. Still on full life support with the vent and all. She is blown up like a balloon due to all her capillaries leaking fluid because of the infection But she is no worse that yesterday. Now for some sleep and back in the morning to see how she is doing. More later. Bear

Well, The good news is that the CT scan came back with no sign of cancer or other goblins except she dos have pneumonia in all the lobes of her lungs as well as the other huge infection she is fighting. Baby steps are being made but we can not see the edge of the woods yet. Linda is now able to nod her head to answer yes or no to questions so......so I don't know what to think at this point. If she can get off the vent and breathing room air in the next two or three days we will call that a victory. Your prayers are working. Gods hands are strong and I trust them. Bear More later.

Finally a little good news! Linda was taken off the ventilator today! She is breathing on her own with 02 support from a nasal cannula. She is not able to speak and is very weak but this is a big step. Next step is to try to get a swallow response,(she failed that test today), so that they can begin to introduce nutrition as she hasent eaten in a month now. The infections rage on but she is making progress. A little but progress none the less. I want to thank you all for the support and wish you all the best. I am tired. It's off to bed now for me. Yes, that is really good news. I have been checking often to see if there were any updates. We hadn't heard anything for 48 hours and I know we were all very concerned. Do they know yet what the source of the infection is? Do they feel they are on the right track in treating it? I assume she is on antibiotics? Hope you are getting some rest.

First off, Thanks for checking, everyone, It really boosts the lod spirit. They still do not know the original insult I suppose it vould be viral. They are doing all they can for her. Running every kind of antibiotic into her they have available I think. Testing again today for a swallow response and if that doesn't work a nasal gastric tube goes in but they do not want to do that for fear of more infection. If they can get the girl to swallow they feel that they can begin to feed her orally and that would be the best. I have my doubts about that though as she is so terribly weak. Glad to see that each day has brought a little good news...still praying for you and Linda.

Finally! Linda came out of ICU today and is now in telemetry to monitor her heart. She still can not take food but is speaking a little and is alert. She has a long way, several weeks to go, but she is getting better and I can now say I think there is a future to look for ahead.

Thank you all for the prayers and concern. Your thoughts and prayers have helped so much I could never convey the amount. Hunting will have to wait for next year as I will be spending all my available time with my Wife. Bless you all my friends for supporting her I truly believe your prayers have saved her life. Bear

Good morning all. I got a good nights sleep last night and ready to head back to the hospital.it has been an eventful couple of days. I had to have a come to Jesus meeting with her doctors and convince them that we couldn't wait any longer and had to get a feeding tube into Linda to get her some nourishment and she has had no food for a month now. The tube was placed yesterday afternoon and this morning there will be a consult with the nutritionists to plan a feeding program. This is the only way that she can get any strength back so that she can continue to fight. Wish her luck the next day or two is going to be a turning .1, where the other for Linda. At this point she has no bowel sounds and if we cannot wake her stomach up at this point her options are limited. We had the chance of a family in her bedside yesterday and prayed with Linda and that has given her strength. Linda still cannot speak but I have told her about the good wishes and prayers. You are giving her and she gave us one of her big smiles in response. I know the support you guys are giving her means the world to her and to me as well. Okay guys, here we go. More later, Bear

I'm surprised there hasn't been getting tube feeds for a while now... was she getting TPN (total parenteral nutrition) for a while? Most intensivists want to get nutrients into the patient a.s.a.p.

Bear - that makes a lot of sense. A big part of her getting her strength back is getting fuel in her. Tell Linda there a whole lot of us pulling for her. Sometime this evening, this thread will surpass the 10,000 views and there presently are over 260 replies. I log on whenever I can to see if there is an update. My wife's name is Linda too. We have been together over 30 years and I feel what you are going through down to my core. By the way, is she overcoming her infection?

No TPN as they stated it was a possible new infection site. NG tube was tried in icu but they sid she did not tolerate it but, with no explanation. I am sitting here watching her struggle to breath. she is asleep an not aware of me. She is so tired from the chf and albumin and lasix diminished her kidney function. They are trying to get her strong enogh over night to use a needle to pull some of the fluid from her chest so she can breath. God help her. Bear

I am so sorry to tell everyone that we lost Linda this morning at 08:05. She slipped away in peace without pain. We are diminished. My darling Wife will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Bear

Bear, I just found this thread and read it from the beginning. I'm at a loss for the right words. I'm so very sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in my prayers.

Bear, I never met you or Linda yet my heart is broken. My wife Judy and I seem to have been appointed to take care of our sick and dying parents, family and friends, it is an unbearable responsibility, yet one that strengthens our heart with His divine compassion. If we had not had the intervention of Jesus Christ directly in our lives, if He had not revealed Himself to us in a way that left no doubt of His existence, we would have lost all perspective, all hope. No matter what happens, no matter our belief, no matter the grief and anguish, everything is made right when we arrive at our new home. Take comfort from your caring, your compassion and love for Linda, I know you will be reunited with her as surely as the sun rises tomorrow. God bless and comfort you.
