Hope this hasn't been done too recently. Just curious how you all found the Fire? Referred? Google search? You get the idea.
For me it was leather. Was looking for reviews on the Montana slings for my lever gun. Found this site during that search, asked some questions in the lever action forums, and had such a good experience I decided to hang around.
Obviously, a lot of us here are refugees from the deservedly defunct Shooters forum! I've been here since 2000, very soon after Rick started this forum much longer than I found that I could tolerate any other such forum. Joined Shooters early, too, after I met with its founders at their first SHOT Show.
I forget the names (but not their crap!) of some of the ones where I was active before I more or less dumped 'em. There were some good guys in all of 'em, before they went to crap.
I can't remember now, but was here before with another screen name that I no longer remember. Tried to log in one day and couldn't, so I registered again and still here. Tim
I follered "Big Stick" over here from Shooters. A whole bunch of us did, but I may be the only one to admit it.
I was fooling with a 257AI, the new RUM's, and Barnes blue pills and had "conversations going" on with Larry on all those subjects.
Then one day he "come up gone" and somebody over at shooters emailed me with news he had set up camp over here.I think it was only a few days later that Friend Ken showed up.
I kinda liked how he used his real name on his posts, so I just signed up as a new member using my real name, so my member info starts on that date in '01.
I've heard you guys talk about Shooter's many times. What was it like, and what led to it's downfall? Sure seems like a lot of our long term members found their way here from there.
Was in Iraq, looking at having a MRC 1999 built, couldnt decide between 350 RM or 358 NM. Search brought me here.
Found the stories of A-Bolts, especially the stainless ones, coming apart or rusting together at the mere mention of rain, amusing and have been waiting for mine to do that so I can report back. 12 years and counting and mine is still ticking.

Shooters went tits up rather quickly, TLee tried to keep it running for a bit. IIRC Rule 303 told me about the Fire.
RickBin was advertising this place over on Shooters. I registered here and posted a bit, but there weren't any real regulars back then. Shooters imploded about 3 months later. Echo4Echo (later just "E4E) and I herded the crew over here. Never looked back...
Was looking for info and accessories for my then brand new Contender, found lotsa sites but found this one and to be the best, like Ken I rarely visit another.
I found most sites are run by self important blowhards that want to retain full control over their subjects.
BTW, Thank you Rick for not being a self important blowhard and believing in the Constitution and it's amendments. Seems nowadays that people only wanna believe in the parts that are convenient to them and their agenda.
Mule Deer mentioned this site in a couple of his articles without naming it, but finally did so in either Rifle or Handloader in an issue that arrived in May of 2005. I browsed as a guest for a few days and then joined.
Overall, it has been pleasant and informative. Thanks, Rick!
Was asking questions about my Savage 99 on GGVG site and they directed me here. Been here ever since. Still trying to become a member of the Turdlike clan.
I was a kingpin dickhead at another hunting website. It was moderated by a bunch of heavy-handed assbags. Even got some of their kids doing the moderating, plus 2 other non-hunting bull dyke lesbians.
I wore out my welcome over there I suppose. They would give you a 30day "time out" for correcting someone's grammar, calling a dumbsh!t out for being a [bleep] idiot, mild profanity, etc.
Whatever, I found this place, got such a warm welcome I decided to stay. Have since told about 20 people and they have joined too. Funny thing is, unfortunately some dickheads from that other site have found this place too and try to heckle and start [bleep] over here.
Mentally escaping, researching this/that online during downtimes in Iraq, became apparent that 24hr provided the most consistently substantive information (laced with old fashioned wise-assery ), compared to the balance of resources/forums out there. Also refreshing how facts and helpfulness prevail here in the absence of moderation.
Came over from Shooters when the owner went senile and joined the Dark Side. I came over here with a whole bunch of others. My original moniker was TwoGun. Changed it to my original FCC Call Sign KC7USZ and then when the FCC granted me vanity call sign I changed it to W7ACT.

Those of us who were on shooters and interacted with Big Stick back then knew a different person than the one from the past few years. Stick helped me out on several projects and was always great to deal with. I'm not sure what happened.
I got my first computer in the early nineties and hooked it up to dialup. I had heard of "bulletin board" sites and figured there should be one devoted to those interested in firearms and reloading. Remember Alta Vista search engine? I searched for such a reloader's site for several years, and finally found "Shooters" in about '98.
Migrated over here as "Shooter's" went TU.
The newer membership of this site with the influx of professional victims, and liberal crybabys has brought out the worst in Big Stick.
I have found him to be extremely helpful with great suggestions for tuning a rifle or load in the not so distant past.
But, it must be said, he does not suffer fools well.

I don't know either. He was a great guy in the old days and I understand from folks I trust he was even better face to face. I know he went through some real hard times and maybe he never recovered. I could understand that. I do wish the old stick was back, he held a true wealth of good info.
,...actually,..I was workin' my way across the net,...lookin' fer a party crowd,..
~~~Slammin' 'em back,,..and laughin' out loud~~~
I found it to a certain extent,...but there's the grumpy old fuggers ya gotta wade through here too,...but you know,....they're everywhere,.....fuggem.
Had a a band out there to the Congress lounge,...did "Party Crowd" ever now and then.
You know how it is,....take a seat,...be lookin' here and there at the women,...tryin' to see if one "looks" you back,...some would,...some wouldn't.
You'd make a mental note of the ones who did.
Then,...later own in the night,...once't everbody had a buzz own,...the band would fire up "Party Crowd".
Unless you was a puzzy,.....you'd get up,...walk over to the best lookin' woman who gave you the look-back,..tug at her sleeve,...nod to the daince floor and say, "c'mon girl,...let's hit it".
If she was a good girl, she'd get up,...grin and stick her tongue out at the girls she was with, and go with ya.
can't hardly remember, it was oh so many posts ago.
probably was due to fighting and brawling on other sites, and someone sent me a pm and told me anything goes on this site, within reason, and i might fit in, like a hand in glove fit.
by jove, that's what happened. i felt like i had finally found a home. had to establish my corner here, , but after a few knock downs and drag outs, we al came to terms.
Was just making my way through the big forest all alone, as normal, and one evening came upon a friendly Campfire, with some good folks gathered 'round. Almost all of them were welcoming, and most were interesting in one way or another. Decided to stay a while before moving on.
Came over from Shooters, can't hardly remember Shooters, except one night, it wasn't there any more.
I remember hunting stories by SilverBullet, and a bunch of stuff by Muleskinner, when he talked old fashioned.
About the earliest thing I remember now from 24hr, is when Bristoe showed up, and put up the story about his PawPaw, the original Bristoe. Or somethin' like that.
Some time after our own John Barsness left Handloader/Rifle fold I was wondering what ever happened to him so I did a search on John Barsness and this was one of the sites that popped up. It took a while to figure out that this "Mule Deer" character was one and the same.
I came here because I'd heard there was a guy here who knew EVERYTHING about shipping any kind of firearm with ANY shipper, and he didn't mind new people asking questions over and over and others giving their opinions on what MIGHT work. I figured he'd be good to hang with. He is.
Barely found Shooters before it went TU and followed the crowd headed this way.
Had a Kodiak brown bear tag and room on the boat so I invited Rick to come along and play back-up. Muley Stalker was doing a lot of video posting so he got invited along to record the events.
Killed a Kodiak bear at 24 yards in the thick alders and had a grand time despite the cougar attacks, primp a donnas, big winds, and saggy tits dangling from second story apartment windows.
You haven't seen anything until you see saggy [bleep] snag a 5 dollar bill off the sidewalk from the second story! Dang Art, after all the years of therapy, it's back in my nightmares!
I was a participant on another hunting/shooting website that started having problems; a few little "piss'n matches that the webmaster shouldn't have become involved in. Someone found this new site, and I've been here since 01/2001!!!
memtb
I wasn't going to mention shooters (why the respect, I know not), but after reading all of the posts I figured I may as well!!
I joined because firstcoueswas80 kept jawing about how campfire was the best forum in the world. I started lurking and to be honest didn't know what to think. The 'fire had some weirdo posting weird sh*t all the time, and everyone was calling him Larry Root, and there was a bunch of big threads about this fellow named Larry Root who everyone hated. I am still confused about the matter, other than he is widely accepted as a crazy assh*ole and keeps creating new accounts because he's a loser.
Then there was this guy named Bricktop in the classifieds that would rip the sh*t out of people, would go on and on with the most offensive posts I'd ever seen in a forum. And if anything was more offensive than his attitude, it was his avatar And the kicker was, the offensive sh*t he was saying was correct! (at least far as I could tell). The Batman/Bricktop thing is the most brilliant thing I've seen on an internet forum, including the Gecko45 crap. That's [bleep]' funny.
Also there's this dude named Deflave who says GFY all the time
I really didn't know what to think, but I had an old Weaver scope I wanted to sell and had noticed the classifieds were awesome so I made an account. That kept me around, and after awhile I got it; The 'fire is just a big ass bunch of dudes who can actually have un-moderated conversations. I think that's what makes it different, and there is a bunch of bitching and bulls*tting but there's also a better sense of camaraderie over here. A lot of guys actually know each other. It not strictly a bunch of queers talking about guns on the internet who have never seen each other. There's plenty of that, but that's not all there is.
The 'fire is alright. I like guns as much as the next guy, but it's nice to talk about a titty once in awhile. Or call someone a dick without getting a PM from some gay moderator saying you have a infraction. Or post pics of some dead coyotes without some [bleep] saying "did you eat that coyote?" The fact that I can type [bleep] and leave it unedited probably makes this forum the best.
Anyway, the 'fire is good stuff. Plus it isn't blocked by the filters at work so I'm on quite a bit and enjoy it for the most part.
Was looking into buying my first custom knife and googled dozier, got sent here. Couple thousand $$ later, biggest mistake I ever made...stupid knives! Great site.
I came here from optics talk dot com, that was a good place and may still be, but the Fire is the best, lots of knowledge to be found, good people, made a good hunt with Skane, bought and sold lots of stuff in the classifieds, I stay out of the pissing matches as much as possible.
Boredom. It was pouring rain at night so i wasnt doing anything but sitting in an obvious place looking like i was slowing down traffic. Surfing the web away and came across this site. Read something raisuli said and decided to be a new thorn in his side. Had a few spats with fellas. But. Consider a few of you guys family and most close friends.
All i heard for about 2 years was Campfire this and I saw this on the campfire etc etc. I finally couldn't take it anymore and joined and now I am sorry I missed out on those couple years.
Lots of characters, lots of bitching, BSing and some damn good people it seems like. I have a bucket list of folks from here that I would like to put faces to names and shake a few hands.
I have saw some of the unselfish and downright awe inspiring generosity from members here.
Some of the threads make me tear up and get misty eyed and that don't happen often.
Keep up the good work gents and if you haven't yet say a big thanks to Rick for allowing us this little slice of the interweeb to call our fire.
Was searching "deerhunting forums" just cause i like to read, ive been a member over on archerytalk (bunch of over zelous pu$$y mods) for over a decade Got banned for a little bit for giving tink nathan (of tinks69) a coronary for asking him why he kept' peddling goat piss instead of using real doe estrus. Found northerndaves thread and was hook from there on.
I found it on a google search for backpack hunting...then got suckered into joining when Ed_T posted a for sale add...bought my favorite pack off of this site!
Mostly just a lurker but occasionally post something...
