So what do you think are some of the best looking cartridges. You know what I mean... some of them are just fast looking, or neat looking.
I am rather partial to the 450/400 Nitro Express 3"
I like the looks of the .22 Hornet cartridge.
Don't know about 'best looking'-
But my idea of a 'perfect' cartridge is:
Bullet on one end
Primer on the other
I like the looks of the .22 Hornet cartridge.
Yup that is a cool one.
That looks like a 40 gr Vmax load. I'm partial to the same bullet.
Gotta mention the weatherby radiused shoulders. 378 pictured
Yep, the 450/400 is high order cool. I'll add the 318 Westely Richards and the 475#2...
I like the long 6.5 beak of the 264 WM.
Gotta mention the weatherby radiused shoulders. 378 pictured
+1...
And the .300 Weatherby is even nicer...
The Mary Ann of cartridges - 30.06
I thought the .308 was Mary Ann?
.280 Ackley with a plastic tipped bullet
The one on the right in the pic. 7x57
what a crazy azz thread, who in their right mind participates in a "best looking cartridge" thread? lololol
oh btw, give me that straight walled .45/70 and for sexy the lil 7mm-'08
nada much prettier than a woman pulling a plow no matter her facial features and figure!
though I would like to harness porch girl
Something about a bag of old testament that gives me the warm and fuzzy...

Hahahaha
I don't know about all time best, but a 300 Savage with a long seated Berger VLD looks pretty racy.
.223 AI isn't too shabby either.
7-30 Waters can be cool looking given the right bullets.
For looks, it is very hard to beat this .45-2.6-550.
But of course, if one looks good then 305 of them all standing in phalanx looks even better. Albeit, these are only teenie .45-70s this time.

Close...

Very cool...
He said "best looking", not fabulous.

True.
If you anneal the brass, you may get a rainbow pattern to add panache.
44/90 Sharps bottleneck
257WBY, especially when loaded with Moly'ed (black) bullets
416 Rigby with a 400gr Bronze banded flat nosed solid atop
22 Cheetah
I SO want a double gun in 475#2! One of the coolest, baddest cartridges ever.
hands down, 6BR. goes 2850 with a bullet that has a G7 BC of .272, on only 30 grains of powder.
I will one up this and add that it be topped by a Nosler Partition
hands down, 6BR. goes 2850 with a bullet that has a G7 BC of .272, on only 30 grains of powder.
That is the fugliest bullet/cartridge I've ever seen..What's it for anyway?
257 AI (3rd from left):
9,3x74R is awesome, too.
My money is on my .22 Hornet and .32-20
I like the classy looks of the old .270 Win and the "radical but balanced" lines of the 264 WM
I like this:
6.5x55 SE ammo is also very cool!
Eric
For some reason I really like the proportions of the 8 x 57. No flippin' idea why.
7mm ultra mag
The two best looking cartridges are:
.475 No. 2 Nitro Express - King of the double gun cartridges .404 Jeffery - King of the magazine rifle cartridges The .475 No. 2 Nitro Express is one of the cartridges created after the Brits outlawed .450s in India, and the .475 No. 2 was the best of them all. Power wise its the dead on equivalent of the .450 Nitro, or the .470 Nitro, but the extra large case (3 1/2" in length) means pressures stay low, ensuring sure-fire extraction under the worst imaginable conditions.
And the .404 Jeff?? Look at the profile of that cartridgeis there anything that says Feed Me better than that? Its one of the most reliably feeding magazine rifle cartridges in existence. And its a .416 Rigby equivalent that fits in a standard action rifle; how can you beat that?
Okay, if those dont get you going, then how bout a wicked little military number?
The 7.92 Kurz, designed for the first "Assault Rifle". Just a mean looking little bugger.
30-30 AI and the 7mm br.
Both are great looking and both are fantastic handgun cartridges.
hands down, 6BR. goes 2850 with a bullet that has a G7 BC of .272, on only 30 grains of powder.
That is the fugliest bullet/cartridge I've ever seen..What's it for anyway?
killing stuff and hitting targets.
i'll throw in another vote for the 270win. good clean lines, head is right size for the body and it kills like hell!!!!!
.25-20 SS is a much more handsome .25-20. But I have no picture of one handy.
.220 Howell just looks damned fast standing still, especially with a 75gr AMAX.
.220 Howell(R) as compared to a .243 Win(L)
I've never really thought about the subject but this is a pretty cool thread. I've never owned one, but I've always thought the Weatherby Magnums were really elegant looking cartridges with their radiused shoulders, long necks and of course the belt.
Favorite for me among them for looks? The 257 Weatherby Mag:
I don't know about "best looking", but here's three good looking brothers.
30-06, 35 Whelen and the 400 Whelen.
hands down, 6BR. goes 2850 with a bullet that has a G7 BC of .272, on only 30 grains of powder.

I like the looks of the 6 br and the ppc too.
32-20, 303 british, 300 H/H for some reason also. 50 bmg just looks big so its sorta cool for that reason. But is an overgrown 06 really and not more fancy than that or a 270 so really all in all not that much.
The 6.5X55mm and 30-06 are my classics.
I'm partial to the hot rod looking ones, all wsm's and wssm's, weatherby's, and anything AI'd
With that I kinda like the looks of the 7x61, as a kid I always dreamed of that cartridge.
.475NE
.450/400 3 1/4NE
9.3X74
.300H&H
.22 Hornet
Any cartridge looks good in the right context.
I am fond of the .416 Rem in the Zambezi River valley.
Someone should tell her that's bad for her teeth.
+1
Honorable mention to the 222.
25-35 with a seated 115 Berger VLD.
300 Holland and 425 Westley-Richards.
I have always thought the .425 Westley-Richards with that rebated rim was cool looking too.
The .366 cal Swede x 57
Can't believe no one has mentioned the 6.5-284 with a VLD bullet seated long. That plus the entire series of Allen Magnums with the 338 AM being top on the list. It is a 408 Chey Tac necked down to 338 and a 40 degree shoulder.
I would go for the 348 winchester with silver tip bullets. Great personality if not the best looking.
+1, also it's little sister the 30-06, excellent symmetry. I am biased though as I started reloading for a hand me down VZ24 BRNO sporter and got a Lyman Spartan reloading press, dies, bullets, pow and primers and lyman manual for my 12th xmas gift form my parents.. Got to love good parents...
Be safe
Patty
I always liked the slight taper of a .38-55, don't own one but I like the looks
450 marlin with the 243
300 Weatherby, then the 270 Winchester.
Honorable mention....6.5x55 with a long round nose sticking out of it.
Mine'd be a 12ga. rifled slug. A face only a shotgun could love. Truly the A-10 Warthog of the cartridge world.
I like the 7x57 Ackley Improved, when it comes to good looks.
None sexier than the .300 H and H.
.257 WBY
.280
.223AI
All topped with a TTSX.
7x57
300 H&H Belted & Flanged
350 Rigby and 400/350 Rigby
400 H&H
450-400 3-1/4 NE
Just looks like a lethal little ICBM sitting there...
Good call on that one too!
I vote for the 240wby with a berger VLD, looks like an ICBM missile. Nothing else quite like it.
Greg, is that a 40mm AA round? I think i have a brass case one of those. no projectile, but same basic shape...
25-35 Winchester loaded for a singe shot.
40 MM Bofors, I reckon,
Nice gift from a Campfire Compadre, some time back
.
Inert, dry, empty,....etc.

Thats cool. Mine is made by Singer Manufacturing Company in 1942. Neat piece of history.
6x47 Rem with 95 grain Ballistic Tip
I'm a bit partial to classic looks - those with "stay".
30-30 comes to mind. As do the 45 Colt, 38 Spl, etc.
Mark
Gotta mention the weatherby radiused shoulders. 378 pictured
I gotta cast my vote with Dave. Rest of ya don't know beauty if it kicked ya in the shins.
303 british
Anything shucking out of a rifle that has just dropped a elk.
T-Rex
Yep, the 450/400 is high order cool. I'll add the 318 Westely Richards and the 475#2...
Took the words right out of my mouth. I had a chance to own a decent Brit SxS double rifle in 475 #2 once, and have been kicking myself in the arse every day for 15 years now for not getting it. One of my bucket list or dream guns for sure.

I am all over this idea, too. Especially the 257WBY. That one just about defines "FAST!"
Above comments notwithstanding, I think my 416 Rigby and 348WCF cartridges are pretty knarly looking, too.
300 and 375 H&H
416 Rigby, 404j
30-06, 22-250
These older cartridges are all good looking, and I just happen to have them all, so I might be biased.
Have to say when I look at my 300 and 338 RUMs , they just scream speed and power.
6-284, .220 Swift, .22-250, .243AI, .30-06, .222 are all very eye-pleasing to me.
Small bolt face. = 221FB
Large bolt face. = 6BR
Tweener = 22PPC
22-250 Rem - 284 Win - 300 Weatherby - 375 H&H - 45-70 Gov are eye pleasing to me !
my two favorite are
1 6mm Rem, with a 115 grain Berger, loaded for a long action... like my Remington is set up for... darn thing looks like mini missile....
2. Second one, was a 300 H & H... guy had some at the range for a special run Stainless Ruger Number ONE he had.... he had some Remington Nickle brass in 300 H&H, with a 220 grain Round Nose loaded on them...talk about looking cool and Retro!
of course I am kind partial to the cool factor on the looks of a 7 x 57 loaded with a 175 grain RN or a 30/06 with a 220 grain RN.... and my 338/06 with a 250 grain RN...
especially in Nickle brass...
Chrome, kudos on presenting some really cool looking wildcat cartridges... I like your style..
damn Roy! I never saw that first hand... you'll have to drag that out and show me and Marty that when I get back up to Hooterville at Christmas time....
7x57AI, 6.5x55, 45-70, 338 Lapua
damn Roy! I never saw that first hand... you'll have to drag that out and show me and Marty that when I get back up to Hooterville at Christmas time....
I said it was sexy, I didn't say it was mine!
6.5WSM with a 140 VLD stuck way out there.
38-40.
But I have no idea why. Just like it.
Some would look at me like I was nutty in times past when I would hold up one just-loaded and ask "isn't that a really great looking cartridge"?
Most couldn't see much there, but over the years I sure felt that way about the .22 Hornet, the 7X57, the 6.5x55 and later the .257 Wby and the 264 Win Mag. Even the .338 Win Mag and the .375 H&H.
Now, the best looking is the one I am loading in the moment.
