that as you've gotten into your 70's that you seem to stumble more and almost lose your balance for no reason? I surely have.
You waited until your 70's? Late bloomer....
i'll be 68 in july, and I already have that. whatever it is. lol

That was my late 20's.

Then I eased back on the hard stuff.
I just crawl.
Less bruises.
I have noticed I am not as steady and I am barely in myt 60s.

Mickey, can you tell us something good about getting older?

Sure can. You don't care if you're around women or not. Believe me, that can be a blessing.
I'm just 65 so I just have my geezer learners permit. In Idaho you can't get the full geezing license until 70. At 65, though, I do notice some lack of balance. I sure can't walk across a 6" log over a creek like I used to or climb over loose rocks without a hiking stick.
Mickey I have a spare I'll send you just tape it to the bill of your cap.grin

You betchum Red Ryder!
In addition to the age factor this damnable chemo I am on has me moving around like a [bleep] on speed.

I did that a lot in my 20's, but i believe to many drinks may have contributed to it
There are exercises for that. Dad used to do them. It helped.
I sure do. Balance is not what it use to be and I am sure not as agile as I use to be.. Falls are the number cause of injuries to seniors
Back in my 30s, I had occasional bouts of serious vertigo probably caused by or related to my lifelong tinnitus. It took me off flight status eventually. My balance has actually improved a bit in recent years but I still get a rare ton o'bricks vertigo spell. It's embarrassing to violently throw oneself to the side while walking.

I tend to stay away from the edge of the Grand Canyon and things like that.
Get a walking stick.
I'm 61 and use a staff when hiking nowdays.
When I started falling on my arse, it was time for a 6' staff to help me balance on steep trails.
Has save me from falls many times.

Think if we knew we going to get this old, we'd have taken better care of ourselves?
After 75 aint nothing easy, trouble is life is like a roll of toilet paper, the closer to the end you get the faster it goes, Wobbley too!

My next birthday will be number EIGHTY and yes, I have noticed that strange happening. My fishing/backpacking trips in the Beartooths are not as stable as they used to be so for the last three years I have been using ski poles for walking sticks. They help a lot but no need for anything like that on level ground, thank God.
There's an ancient cure for this old age problem stay seated.
You're fine it's the world that's moving and shaking.

56 here. I notice sometimes I'll turn my upper body and lean to walk but my legs don't follow causing a slight stumble.
I am almost 65 Mickey but with the Meniere's disease there are days I cannot walk a straight line and other days just standing is a chore.

Spinal arthritis. The nerves that deliver signals from brain to legs and back, by way of the spine, are becoming gradually constricted, interrupting the signals. It's very common, and why most old folks gradually lose mobility. You can minimize it by addressing the cause, which is a high starch diet. Get rid of starch, dramatically reduce sugar (except that in the form of fruit - not juice), and eliminate processed foods.
At 70 I still haven't had my balance affected. But, besides an afternoon nap, I now often find it necessary to take a morning nap. blush
Thanks for the heads up - now I know what to look forward to in 5 years..

Yep and with bad hips, a fused ankle and worn out knee on the opposite side it is an ADVENTURE walking around. Not so much the house but outside and in the shop......
I guess it is one of the "gifts" of aging, I would rather have received wisdom. I fight it at every opportunity. I work out on the treadmill or elliptical 5 days a week, if I don't use my hands for stability it is much more difficult and works my balance. At least one day a week I hike off trail w/ a pack and rifle and find this helps also. If I am in steep country hiking poles really help. At 67 I find it important to move slower and watch where I am going at all times. I have had a lot of friends debilitated by poor conditioning and falls and will do all I can to avoid it. A body in motion stays in motion.

A finely crafted cocobolo walking stick.
I love to walk but see that this constant vertigo may end it and start a fast track slide down hill. I have had to give up driving and walking any kind of a straight line when the world is spinning out of control is getting harder every week.

No! I don't drag my feet when I walk!

If you'll put a bit of 'pee gravel' in your shoes or boots....it will help you to do the same!! grin

And at 74...I can still give this SNJ-5 a 'work-out' on occasion!!

I could bust my azz just getting a beer out of the fridge; I've always been a bit of a klutz. It's funny, when I was young I was REALLY agile, but still a bit of a klutz. Now I'm just more klutz than anything else.
Been doing it lately and I'm only 36. Doc said it's scrip side effects. People look at me funny because I'm using a cane.

Wanna feel really weird - spend a day in a wheelchair in public. Some of the looks and stares I got - just really made me think about how I treat others and those immediate pre-conceptions we all seem to have.

Last 2 weeks sure have changed my outlook on a lot of things.

The older I get, the more table edges, door frames and door knobs reach out to get me....they didn't used to do that.

Luckily my skin is still pretty thick, so I'm not a bleeder yet...

I find it easier and easier to take naps all day long. crazy
I can start to tell I"m not as good as I used to be as I approach 50.

Have used walking sticks since the 30s though on hunts with packs and such, and really, the 3rd point of contact always did help a person.

Fairly sure from what I"m seeing approaching 50 that there can't be anything good about further aging. Other than maybe being able to retire from work before I die, and the fact that I'm closer to dying every day... though I sure hope I"m not really close at all to that...

Try Cialis. It gives to a balancing rod to hold on to.

i have a herniated disc center back, spinal stenosis, and a bum right ankle from a m/c accident as a kid. Doc guy says about the only thing for the ankle is to fuse it, don't think so. So on bad days i just wobble around. Tried to take the dog down to the end of the street last night, couldn't do it, her pulling was aggravating by back. And this a guy that some years back could do 20miles in a day in rough country.

some years ago, the confederate air force was selling rides in an snj here in arizona, that plane looks a lot like the one i got a ride in.
My next birthday I'll be 70. Sure I notice a difference. BUT I still work full time. Never give in to it. I spent last Saturday on snowshoes rabbit hunting with my 33 year old son. I think I finally convinced him that I can do anything as long as he allows me to do it at my own pace. I think the key is to eat properly, drink in moderation, rest and celebrate being 69. The breakfast of champions year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! grin grin

Beats walkin' any day!
" Have any of you geezers noticed
that as you've gotten into your 70's that you seem to stumble more and almost lose your balance for no reason? I surely have."

I have too and a fairly recent fall got me an opportunity to have surgery.
Getting old is a real journey.

Tried it can barely reach the ground with my "rod".
That's an interesting use for it. I typically take it at night to keep myself from rolling out of bed.

I was 52 when the doctor told me to use a cane to keep from hurting myself when the back spasms jerked my left leg off the ground. Beautiful twenty something ladies started opening doors for me. It was just so wrong I decided falling was better.
As a sweet lil' ol' lady once told me, "The only thing Golden, about these Golden Years, is your pizz". The heck of it is, at the time, I was older then that sweet lil' lady, so I already knew!
Sometimes my middle leg doesn't break trail as it used to.
