if you're going to climb a rock wall...

I understand mountaineers need to do such things due to unforeseen circumstances. But the majority of pictures I see like this nowadays appear to be done, just to be done.

Either way, FTS.

If there is any movement in those knots it will probably be both of them.

This world is so full of idiots who try to temp fate as much as humanly possible...

Darwin Awards for those types....

Ya gotta be stupid to think that is safe....and not quite grasp the concept of gravity.....

At least they don't have to take any extra bear precautions.

My buddy used to do this. Had to on one of the assaults on a face in Yosemite (Half Dome?) which is something like three days. They poop in paper bags. He said the thing he was most worried about was on the first day that he might get hit by a bag of poop when climbers were above him.

If the blonde were camping with me, we would need more room, and a more sturdy platform.

Were I swinging in the breeze on that piece of cloth I am pretty sure the paper bags wouldn't be big enough.

A few years back, I read about 2 teams climbing a 3000' sheer face like that somewhere in the Himalayas. The teams were German and American. 2/3 of the way up, a major storm blew in. The American team went back down for the night while the Germans decided to 'camp out' on the face. The storm lasted for a couple days. When it blew over, the entire German team was found frozen to death.

Doesn't he know it's not a safe practice to use the top step on a ladder?

I see a new warning label in the near future.

Good one! laugh

Fact is, rock climbing is just like any other endeavor where the potential for death is there if you do something stupid.

Don't be stupid, understand basic physics(gravity never lies) ,use good judgement and it ain't all that bad. In reality it can be quite enlightening, just avoid the sudden stop at the end of the ride.

Well, you would only fall out of bed once.
Posted By: sambo3006 Re: Extreme Camping - 07/28/14
That setup would make for a heck of a prank on one of the guys in hunting camp. sleep........ eek

The photographer appears to be pretty safe, from what I can see. He looks to be on the main line and a belay. But I would worry about the guy below the ladder, that thing comes undone and swings he is toast!
Posted By: KC Re: Extreme Camping - 07/28/14

I thought this was pretty extreme. But not compared to that photo.

I climbed The Nose on El Capitan in 1966. It took two days. But even on that climb we didn't use a hanging platform. We managed to bivvy on a ledge.
