I guess that's 9 mm for me....

I'm just trying it now.
I want to give the 5.7x28 a go.
9MM. I've tried .380, and they were hard to handle or I just lack dexterity.
I used to think people were stupid when they asked me to reload 22lr. Now I wish I knew how.
The Hornet and the 32 H&R are the smallest I do long and short.
Hornet std and K
What defines little for you, bore diameter or case capacity?

The smallest bore diameter I've loaded for is .172". The lightest charges I've thrown were about 1.2 grains.

204 Ruger and Hornet.
22 Hornet
Smallest I have loaded: rifle would be be 22 Hornet/218 Bee, handgun would be 38 spl. I don't think I'd want to fiddle with 9mm or smaller handgun rounds.
if it has a primer I load it....
Used to load for a 17 hornet. Now my smallest is a 17 tactical
Hm. I'd load most anything I had the components for. Why not? I have a passion for it. I love reduced loads, and I'm just beginning to develop loads that mimic 22rf or 22mag in Hornet, Bee, and 223 cases. A 17 Mach IV is on the way, and I'll load that to two power levels: varminter (step on gas), and plinker/small game getter(HMR equivalent, but with less frangible bullets). In handgun cals, I'd likely not load below a 380 auto, and even that is just because I have picked up many hundreds of brass where I shoot. My lady can somewhat comfortably shoot a 9, but she may end up with a 380 some day. I like 38's, and I like 9mm. Don't think I'd ever bother shooting anything with power level below 380.
I have loaded some very small rounds a time or two.....just because I could. The smallest was probably the .25 ACP.....a real pain to load. I helped a friend load a wildcat .14 Caliber round based on the Hornet case.

I regularly load the .22 Hornet and .25-20. Both are a pain, but I load them because I wanted a small varmit/small game round that was reloadable as opposed to the .22 LR.
204 ruger
I guess the 9 mm is the smallest size round I load and with a Dillion 550 I load a bunch. The smallest caliber round I load for is the wonderful Hornet.

If a set of dies were to fall in my lap I would load the .32 auto for my little Beretta Tomcat. I save all the brass but too cheap to buy even Lee dies. Perhaps Santa will take notice..
Whatever needs loading
218 Mashburn bee is the smallest I've loaded, 221 fireball is the smallest of what I currently load.

The small 22's can be a little bit of a challenge, can imagine loading for the 14's would definitely be a challenge.

I've loaded the Hornet in the past, as far as rifles go. I have a .218 Bee now, and I'm waiting for brass, for it.

I've loaded the .380 ACP, but it was a long time ago. I inherited Dad's Colt Gov't model, so I guess it's possible I might load it again at some point.

Dad had a .25 ACP Baby Browning, and at one point I had a box of new .25 ACP brass, but he was vehemently opposed to shooting it, convinced it would be too easy to stick a finger in front of the muzzle. I don't recall if that one is still in the family or not. I do remember the Hornady manual said "...reloading the .25 ACP is not particularly rewarding..." grin

Our LGS that carries much reloading gear actually had Speer Gold Dots in stock for the .25 ACP - so I guess someone actually does load for it... smile Maybe I would too, if only for S&G.
My smallest will be the 25/20. I'm in the process of unloading some brass right now. I'm going to be looking for a velocity around 1100 to 1200 fps to use as a small game round.
Anything with a 4 in front of it for for handguns and screw rifle calibers.
380acp due to the lack of ammo.
Just loaded some Hornets yesterday.

35 gr. Vmax w/Lilgun at 2900 FPS. These "smoke" rodents!

Virgil B.
If it's centerfire and boxer primed, I'd reload it.
I load the 25 ACP.

17 Fireball
Got a 1050 set up for 9mm. A 650 set up for 223. A 550 for anything with a large primer. I just buy 380. Anything smaller than a 223, besides a 22lr, is silly, IMO.

Need some brass? I'll send ya some..shoot me a PM
I quit fooling with 9mm because it is so cheap.

38 special is my cut off
22-250 for rifle

556 is too cheap to bother reloading as well, UNLESS its just for a special run of deer killing loads. Otherwise I would give my new dimension hornady dies away.

Me too...I worked up a Plus-P load of 1.7 grs. of Bullseye with a 50 grain bullet. I expect it to overpenetrate.
I reload the 5.7x28.

55g Lapua SP's out of a suppressed pistol at 1000 fps is great armadillo medicine.
22 K-Hornet, and 17 Rem

Generally finding that the cheap stuff is simply not accurate enough for my tastes.

But for most folks that just like to go bang, the cheap stuff is way easier than loading.
Smallest rifle round I do is 22 Hornet; although in the past I've done some loading for my buddies 204 Ruger. Smallest pistol round for me is 9mm. I've got a 25 ACP but hardly ever shoot it and I've got maybe a couple hundred rounds for it that I got before the current panic so that should last me many years at the rate I shoot 25 ACP. Thought about trying 25 ACP reloading once but figured it would be too much hassle for something I rarely shoot but I bet it would be interesting reloading that tiny little bugger.
smallest HG is .357. Smallest rifle is .25-20. I wouldn't load 9mm because I just use mine for plinking and the cost of white box bulk at Walmart is such that it wouldn't be worth my time to load them.
I load most anything but i draw the line at the 25 auto.
I use primed 25 acp cases to ignite the charges in my TC Encore MZ... they are not to hard to deal with.
My smallest is 32 ACP, don't own a 25 ACP. Generally get a finger pinched trying to balance a bullet into the seating die.

380 acp, which I do reload.
Academy Sports keeps 22hornet centerfire up at the customer service desk with all the other "rationed" 22 rimfire.

They think the Hornet is the same type ammo....

Because when I inquired, they said "yellow jackets, stingers, and hornets...all that ammo is 1 box limit" So any ammo named after an insect is subjected to a limit. LOL

No helping some.
I have loaded down to .32acp in pistols, and the .22's in a rifle.
Now if you want to talk real reloading a guy i was talking to saturday does an average 40k a year of .40s&w, for his competitive shooting.
.17 Remington and its a pain in the ass with my by fat ape fingers too.
218bee.....

A lb of powder goes a looooong way.

Tony
As many others have stated..................22 Hornet, a 45 gr TSX at 2922 is a very worthwhile endeavor.
222 is my mighty-mite but I'm intrigued with a 20practical and a 17Hornet.

There's a myriad of fun to be had at the loading bench. grin
Smallest pistol - 38/357s
Smallest rifle - 270
Smallest shotgun - 28g

Oops. blush
I guess I misunderstood the OP. I thought he meant "what is the smallest round you would bother reloading"

I'm normally pretty good at this stuff but could someone break down the word "you'd" for me? smile
Used to load the .32 ACP, but now .380 is smallest
I have loaded 25 acp with a #4 buck when I was a kid for killing raccoons in traps. Sold my 17 hornet and 17MK4 because they were a PITA to load. Still load 32 longs though
Well, I'm down to .17 Hornet. Anything smaller out there?
Hi
The smallest cartridge, I reload, is 5mm rimfire, a local guy makes centerfire brass, for it and I shoot them in my contender. The guy is quite creative, he also builds firing pins to convert 5mm rimfire rifles into center fire.

That's an interesting way around the rimfire shortage!!
I have 400 rds of 25 acp 50 gr fmj bullets that need a home. PM me if interested. GW
Well, I thought a .25 ACP would be the smallest I'd load for, so I bought brass, dies, and bullets. That was a good while back and I still haven't loaded any.

.25/20 is the smallest I have loaded for.

I loaded some of those 5.7 x 28s for someone a couple of years ago...that was a bigger pain than loading for the 17 Fireball, that I did for another friend...
The 5.75mm Velo-Dog cartridge- if I had brass I would chamber a T/C barrel for it now.

I reload .32 S&W Long for a Remington Rolling block, so it is my smallest rifle cartridge.

Same here and the same for 38 Special.
.17 Rem re: rifles... .380ACP for handguns..

"You'd" is a contraction of "you would." It is also the contraction for "you had."

Take your pick

Someone does conversions of 5mm RF to CF, my son's FIL has one.
Well, I had a mexican mauser in the old days that was chambered in 17-220 Swift. Wish I still had it, but would have rechambered it.
If it goes bang...

Smallest I assemble is a 4mm RF but it is not a reload option. Otherwise I was saved from reloading the .297-250 Rook by virtue of someone wanting it more than I.
smallest I have reloaded is one hundred rounds of 25acp. swore I'd never load another round of that. now I don't have to. my wife traded the Beretta for a M39 S&W 9mm. don't like loading 9's either. stubby arthritic fingers just have a hard time with those dinky cases.
smallest rifle cartridge is the hornet and the 222 rem.
For me:

9mm Luger, .223 Rem & 22 Savage Hi-Power.

I tried reloading for the .25ACP and .380 Auto many years ago, but I won't again. I just buy them by the 50 or 100 box and just don't shoot those marginal (IMHO) cartridges as much.

Not asked, but what I load the most are:
.357mag, .45ACP, .223 Rem., 300 Savage & 358 Winchester.

-TomT

Smallest rifle round is .218 Bee. Smallest pistol is .38 Super.
For me it used to be .38/.357 in handgun, but with the Obama shortages I started loading 9mm. For rifle ammo the smallest is .22 Hornet and .22 K Hornet. The economy of a Hornet handload makes me smile.
9MM for me.

There are 14's, 12's and even some 10's

17 Fireball in rifles. 9mm in handguns. Smallest powder charge was a couple of grains of Unique behind a round ball in the 8x57.

Thanks. That's some interesting stuff.
I've loaded everything from 17Bee to 470Nitro Express. I greatly dislike 17's as the hole is so small it's a chore to get the powder in quickly. I started reloading 17Bee in 1952 when the only 17 caliber bullets were Sisk.
.22 Hornet

 case capacity

 bullet diameter
Whatever I like to shoot that makes sense to reload. I used to be able (not that long ago) to buy 9mm for under 5 bucks a box so I didn't bother. No longer.... I do a little CBA on what I like to shoot and if it makes sense, I reload it regardless of size. Sure glad I got into a huge stash of .22 rimfire a while back.....
20 Tactical, 204 Ruger & 22 hornet.
I used to load for a Walther PP .32 ACP until some [bleep] relieved me of it...
Smallest handgun cartridge I'd reload is the 9X19mm, followed by the 38 Special. Smaller cartridges are just too much bother with my arthritic fingers.

As for rifle cartridges, the 22 Hornet is my smallest.

If you load the 10 Eichelberger, I recommend hiring a very small elf; their hands and fingers are better sized for reloading smaller cartridges. smile
