If you guys remember - we had a pretty lengthy discussion on these Yeti cups knockoffs at Wal Mart with the Ozark Trails label

The day of the discussion I went there to see if my local had any left and I guess word had got out on them, so similar to the 22lr, you couldn't find them or order them online. I never mentioned it to my wife that I stopped off to buy one, but she does have a Yeti tumbler she bought off Amazon.

So last week my wife visits family in Texas and they tell her about them and she wants to go to Wal-Mart today to pick one up.

I didn't realize that is what she wanted until we get there, but to my surprise they had dozens of the 30oz tumblers for $9.97.

She told me Wal-Mart put a new "skin" on them and can now sell them.

I didn't see any of the 20oz tumblers.

She got a kick out of me telling her about the ice melt test documented by someone on here.
I bought 3 of them in Alaska 3 weeks ago as well kept ice for several hours. I got the 20oz ones and paid 8 bucks for them.
I bought two 20 oz Ozark tumblers yesterday as a gift, you just have to be persistent check the shelves and grab them when they are in stock, this was my third time checking for them.
I bought one and did the ice test during that first thread. Now that its 95 degrees and Ive been working in the yard...Im not as impressed with them...
I bought two of the 20 oz ones here in OKC about a month ago, used WM's website to find out where they were in stock, they were at several stores across the metro. As said they were $7.99. I've been using them every day since, pretty happy with them. Mine look just like a Yeti except for the Ozark Trail logo.
while I was there a woman walked up and put 3 of the 30oz ones in her cart.
I'm very pleased with my 30oz.
Got a couple a few weeks ago. Both sizes. The rubber seal on the lid occationally rolls out of place but otherwise I'm happy. Can't compare it to a Yeti though. Never used one and for the price unlikely I ever will.

Rob
You can go to the WM website and set it up for email notifications when they're in stock at your local store. I picked up a bunch to keep around as last minute gifts.

Watched a fellow pay $400 for a yeti soft cooler last weekend, Yeti's prices are a joke.

I'm quite happy with my little Igloo @ $100.

Bought a couple of Ozark~Trails, no complaints.
What kinda loser has time to test a cup?

Dave
they changed them somehow, at least the lid is different...

the ones I got before all the crap started flying work wonderfully
I was in Big Bear last week and they had their own brand of Yeti stacked next to the Yetis.

Much cheaper. Exact same cup.

I think the jig is up for Yeti.

Dave
Rtic makes a similar product that is in the price range of the Ozark Trail.

https://www.rticcoolers.com/shop/drinkware/tumblers
Like KFWA, I had heard of these, but not seen any locally. Heck , I had not seen any at the 20 or so Walmarts in Florida, GA or AL, I stopped at.
Two weeks ago, in Wytheville VA, I stopped in to pick up some bug spray. There in the camping good area, were flat after flat of the dang things.
I snagged two 30 ounce and two 20 ounce mugs. $9.79 and $7.79. In the few tests I have run, they perform exactly like the Yeti product that I paid $39.95 and $29.95 for.
Other than the Ozark Train logo stamped on the mugs and plastic lids, they are identical.
I ran into MagMarc at the Starbucks for coffee, in Wytheville, and gave him one of the 20 ounce mugs. I kept the other. Wife got one of the 30 oz mugs, I kept the other.

RTIC is Yeti's economy line.
friend bought a RTIC. a few weeks back we put the same amount of ice and drinks in his RTIC and my igloo. when we got home my igloo had way more ice left in it.my cooler is atleast 20 years old.
Bought two of the Wally World 30oz a while back. have no complaints. So far no one has made a snide remark or criticized me on the boat dock, so they must look like the real thing.
Sitting in the cup holder between the front seats inside a hot car with the windows rolled all but about a 1/4" closed my Ozark Trail 30 oz tumbler still has some ice cubes left after 4-5 hours. The water stays good and cold for a long time after the ice has all melted. Started with about 1/3 ice cubes and 2/3 water.

Yesterday I saw a promotional display set up in the middle of the floor at a convenience store stocked with yet another brand name I've never heard of before but are exact physical copies of the Yeti and Ozark Trail 20 and 30 oz tumblers, Only difference I could see was the brand logo.
Got my wife a 20 oz WM a moth or so ago. She said it outlasts the plastic travels mugs by 100%. She bought me a Ozark 30 oz, but I did not use it yet because I forgot about it. I better use it.....
Strange to hear someone talking about Wytheville. Grew up close to there. Family still has a farm there

Just had to make a run to that same convenience store. The brand name embossed on their Yeti/Ozark Trail knock-off tumblers is "Roughneck'. Both 30 oz and 20 oz sizes priced at $10 more than Walmart's Ozark Trail tumblers.

I purchased three 20 oz through ebay, also grabbed handles and sealable lids...these things are terrific, and we are very pleased with them as they beat the heck out of anything else we have access to.
The best thing is they are extremely easy to clean.
Our local chain grocery carries a knock off brand known as Fire and Ice. They have a slide - closing lid. 20 oz was 11.97 and 30 oz was 13.97. If the ozark trails don't start making their way back to the shelves I'll have to give them a try.

Some friends that stopped by a few weeks ago for a brief overnight visit on their way to MT brought me an RTIC 20oz as a gift....I also have a YETI 10oz....also a gift so I have no Idea what either cost but I can't tell any difference in the two other than size......

Course...I haven't done any scientific testing on em either....(some of ya'll sure do get worked up over a tin cup) LOL....

Probably just in my mind because I like pint glass's but beer tastes funny out of em....to bad cause the definitely keep chit cold....even without the lid....

Our local Walmart was selling out of Ozark Trail tumblers as quick as they stocked them on the shelves at the time we were wanting a couple so I just order and paid for them on-line with no shipping charges for pick up in-store.

Got emails in about a week or so that they were in and ready to pick up.

Other than bringing the printed out emails and showing ID for verification was a no hassle done deal. Bagged them up and left.
Walmart in Ontario Oregon, 20 oz or 30 oz Ozark Trail= $19.95.

See what happens when you let the damned Dem's run a state. Taxes and ridiculous minimum wage double the price on everything!

Not that Oregon's politics don't suck balls cause they do, but the fact that so many started snatching em up and hoarding em like 22LR could have a thing or two to do with the higher price.....

The kind that would give two girls one cup and tell them "Surprise me."
Ok so you guys just caused me to buy 4 of these @ $7.47 each.

My daughter said WM has about 60-80 right now. Guy at WM said they sell out fast and that some guy bought 80 of them at once last week. Supposedly for his company employees.

Anyway, they seem to be a great deal for $7-$8. Using mine right now.....
I dropped by Walmart to get some of these cups...out of stock

So I bought 3 bricks of 22LR instead
The Walmart here has never not had them on the shelf. I just picked up the bigger one anodized black. Already had two of the smaller ones and the one that hold a can.
She bought all 4 with the darker "clear smoke" lids. Said they also had ones with the plain clear lids......

Buy em online, pick up at the store, get online prices.

We have several of both Wally's and Yeti, they are used interchangeably, as far as we can tell no difference, then we never ran tests.
Just order 2 from the local Sam's Club. 19.97 + tax for a 2 pack, pickup em up tomorrow at the store.

Deans
Just left my local Walmart

Picked up two 20 oz and two 30 oz Ozark Trail cups and 22 LR ammo

Got that one too for $99 at Sams.

Last hunting season I used the Igloo 55 quart (got it for $149 at Sams Club) and it worked great. Field and Stream testing had it rated higher that the comparable Yeti.

Let's do some math on that.

Walmart guy make 9:00/hour before the magic socialism raise and can buy one cup per hour of labor.
Walmart guy makes 19.95 an hour after the magic raise, and he can buy one cup per hour of labor.

Skilled working guy making 25.00 per hour, gets maybe a 5.00 dollar raise.
Skilled worker guy has 300K in retirement, but now the buying power is half. He goes into the hospital and the costs are doubled, so he spends all his kids inheritance.

Middle class kids, now face a world of never ending loans, taxes, and interest. They can never get ahead. Old money is gone, high education costs, high interest, high bills. They spend their life paying interest to bankers. They are the expanded lower class.

Bankers own assets like real estate and commodities, hardly any real cash. The commodities will scale with minimum wage, so they essentially are protected from inflation.

This is the socialist plan. Two classes, only rich and those in debt.
If you dare say 15.00/hour is crazy, you are a racist that hates the poor, a true bully. The truth is 15.00/hour erases the middle class in a downward spiral. It does nothing for the lower class except expand the membership.

We bought a few yetis some time ago, a year or more probably.

In TX heat my wife who works out in the field a lot, puts ice in hers around 730 am, then puts her tea over the ice at noon.... and there is still ice left at 530 or so when she gets home, having been out and about in the heat, her work vehicle, her office and so on. With our heat, its pretty impressive.

We have the ozark trails too, and while they are decent they have not been as good in the summer as the yetis.

FWIW.
Here's a hint, NONE of them is keeping ice good in my cup for hours, period.

Because regardless of what the cup is made of, 90 proof is melting ice.
How many fuukin' hours does it take to drink 20 oz?
If it's water it will sit all day.

I can't complain. At 6:00 AM I put about 1/2 cup of ice cubes in my 30 oz cup and fill it with water.

By 7:00 Am it is sitting on my desk at at work at 90 degree ambient temp.
By 9:00 The water is gone and I add two cans of diet Coke from the fridge. By noon I add another two cans of diet Coke from the fridge.
By 1:00 PM the ice is gone, but the soda is still quite cool at 3:00 PM.

It does not quite compare to a good Stanley thermos bottle, but it is a lot handier and still does well enough.
I see what appears to be 'impossible' claims for and against the cups.
After using the two brands side by side, I say some of those claims are true. But not all. I won't say who is fudging, but you know. lol

Weird. Wal-Mart in liberalville portland is $8 and $10.
Bought 5 of the can coolers too. They do a pretty good job.

The only thing that goes in tumblers is 90 proof whiskey or coffee.
A study showed the $40 Yeti beats the $10 Ozark Trail by 400%

A simple scientific test proved this

Post a link to this scientific test.
I was just at Walmart. They had a lot of each size in camping area,
and none in the area where the rest of the tumblers are in housewares.
I picked up a 30oz.
I picked up a Wal-Mart 20 oz tumbler this morning to check it out. Filled it with cold tap water, took a few sips and then forgot about it for a bit. When I checked it out a couple of hours later, it was frozen solid! Would like to see one of those overpriced Yeti's do that.

Yeti does beat the Ozark Trail by 400%,... in price.

The "simple scientific test"? Basic math.

I finally bought the expensive ass Yeti version. Got tired of driving to all the frickin Walmarts to see if they had one in stock. None to be found.

Anyhow, I filled my new Yeti 30 oz tumbler with iced tea at 4:00 am as I headed out to the Tx Hill Country Ranch I manage. I still had ice in my cup the next day. I'm sold.

Will have to order a couple of the Walmart versions online to use in the Tractors.

They are basically just a thin walled wide mouth thermos.
I suspected that was what you were going for, but to be honest, then it wouldn't be a scientific test, but would be a mathematical equation............ grin

Considering what passes for 'scientific' nowadays I think it still qualifies.

1979: I partied a bit too hard one night with a frisky lady. I was hung over for three days.

I have not been able to abide the taste of distilled spirits since. And never could aquire a taste for the flavor of coffee. Actually I distinctly dislike the flavor of hops while I am thinking about it.

So I guess it will just be ice water and cola around here.
I can go without most things in my life, coffee ain't one of them.

Not drinking coffee is weird.
But it sure makes things a lot easier on back country hunting trips.

No need for fire in the morning before I hit the trail.
Easier ain't always better...
Scott, you ever try to swallow cod liver oil or quinine. That is me tryin to force a sip of coffee past my lips.

Sometimes easier is better.

Going from 10 to 40 is a 300% increase.
I picked up three of the 20-ounce Ozark Trail Friday night. They seem pretty nice. Hard to believe the lid on either the Yeti or the OT can insulate much, being one layer of plastic. The OT are made in China. Where are the Yeti made?

P.S. Just found out the Yeti tumblers are also made in China: http://yeti.com/faq/

Ozark Trail is a brand used for outdoor equipment and footwear. (The Walmart Home Office is located in the Ozark mountain region in northwest Arkansas.)
Thanks.

I trust you are not implying that your family is more important than I.

What's your motivation for living?

If you don't mind my asking.

Lust for life, sharing this earth's wonders with 10 grand kids, crawling in bed beside Momma each night,

Right now I am watching three of the little tykes stare in amazement at their first view of the Pacific from the Oregon Coast.

Yeti keeps ice for a long time

X100 We are sharing the next nine days with two of our daughters, their hubbies, and seven kids age four through fifteen. We are all native born near Boise.

I would post a couple pics, but the tablet is way smarter than I.

I have not figured how to do the links or cut and paste on the android.

We are taking several of the kids fishing out of Newport on a 24 ft Boston Whaler on Wednesday. Not sure yet if the target is tuna or salmon. But we will probably also bring back a limit of rock fish.
These endless discussions about a cup or coolie study disturb me.
The thing with yeti or Walmart yeti is.......
ZIP.
None.
Zero.
Nadia.
Neither........
has EVER made my beer colder. EVER.
Now, if you are the type to nurse an adult beverage for hours and want to water it down in the process with ice, more power to ya. I'm more of a volume guy.
On the other side I like coffee hot. Real hot. These units keep it fairly hot for a while, but not long enough to matter.
If you like lukewarm coffee, you are probably thinking "nirvana".
Lots of them at the local chinese embassy!

Chinese embassy.... laugh laugh

Pretty sure I picked up that name here!

Fitting!

I had a soft drink a couple nights ago after painting and had a good bit of ice in the Ozark Trails cup when I went to bed. 8-9 hours later there was still a good bit of ice in the cup. I've never seen that with any other insulated cup before that cost 8 bucks.
Took my RTIC (YETI clone) cup with me for a day of fishing down at the mouth of Hells Canyon yesterday.....
I filled it up with ice and water when I left in the AM and it did a fine job keeping the water cold....better than any travel cup I've ever owned....but I gotta tell ya....there's some pretty tall tales floating around on this thread....

I suspect some of these "scientific" tests are being conducted in air conditioned offices......

It wouldn't surprise me if YETI, Ozarc Trails, and RTIC cups were all made in the same factory either...
To the whole group here, I've been wondering what the fascination is with these cups. I looked at them at the local Wal-mart and saw that the plastic top seals by pressing into the top of the cup but the slot for drinking is always open.

How is this desirable?

I've used the Contigo insulated cups for years that I bought at Costco. The tops screw on and have an auto-seal opening for drinking. Depress a big button on one side of the lid and take a swallow or two, release the button and the opening seals up. You can lay the cup on its side or turn it upside down and it won't leak. No need to worry about putting it back in a cup holder to keep it upright so the drink doesn't spill.

In the summer I keep a couple empty cups in the fridge so they are pre-chilled to the beverage temperature to begin with which increases their cold-holding power to some unknown degree.

They come two 14 ounce cups for $20.00 at Costco but you can buy them individually at Target or at www.gocontigo.com in sizes up to 24 ounce. I just bought one of the 24's for $26.00 and it's great. No spilling ever. Same ice or hot holding capabilities as Ozark Trail or Yeti and did I mention - No possibility of spilling in any position unless the spring loaded button fails.

I can see the economic advantage of the Wal-mart cups but when all you have to do is let go of the cup to prevent spilling your drink all over yourself or the interior of the vehicle I guess I'd rather spend the money.

Value, I guess, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder (or in this case the be-drinker?)
My beers are always open and I hardly ever spill them in the truck.

Rubbish. I own both.

You bought a YETI?

PT Barnam was right

I was given a Yeti and paid $7 for my Walley one.

In fairness though, you have a lot of practice.

Quote
On the same day it filed the lawsuit against Wal-Mart, Yeti also filed lawsuits against Zhejiang Zhuosheng Industry & Trade Co., a Chinese stainless steel drinkware manufacturer; and Waukesha, Wisconsin-based restaurant outfitter The Boelter Companies. Both lawsuits were trade dress infringement claims relating to Yeti’s 20 and 30 oz. stainless steel tumblers. These claims did not include patent infringement, however.

Doesn't look to me like any of the others could still be called Yeti clones either since it's pretty clear now that they all simply bought the identical beverage containers manufactured and sold by the very same Chinese company but each with their own brand logo embossed.

Little ones are drawn to coffee breath on old people and women dig some whiskey fueled lovin'.

The gaskets on these cups need a re design.
I though I might as well jump on the band wagon and bought one last night at Walmart.
So are the OT tumblers "tumbleproof" or whill they spill. They seem interesting for loading with ice and water for wade fishing.
And the coolers are on par with the acclaimed YETI quality?
My Coleman 50qt Xtreme is quite decent for the $60 paid. Kept ice and stuff cold for 4 dyas when we went on the 24HC fuishing trip to PINS with Roger, looking for a smaller version or soft side for same fishing purposes.
