The curman's home is in danger of being consumed by a ginormous wild fire.
So all you guy's that like to pray, should pray.
Thanks,

Prayers sent. When I saw a local guy on the news last night saying his crew is going up there to help fight the fires it drove it home how bad it is.
Pretty tough situation for not being April 1st.
Sucks, but life you save, the rest is all replaceable. Remember engines don't run without oxygen.... IE getting out at the last second.
Deflave: Prayer sent!
What part of the world is the Curmans place?
Lots of smoke here in SW Montana but I have been to busy to watch TV for fire location(s).
Hold into the wind

Hopin their home will be spared

Petroleum County.
Which is sort of ironic now that I think about it.
Of course Travis, You can as well.
Praying for God's grace and protection now.
Travis;
Will do for sure.
Though I seldom say this anywhere, I might know how they feel this time.
Wildfires are a fact of life for us - a very somber, scary and sometimes deadly fact.
Thanks for passing this along to us.
Dwayne
Done.
Hope it works for them, they seem like a great bunch.
Praying for God's grace and protection now.
AMEN that.
Travis, hate to hear that news.
I was thinking about Ben and his family when news of this fire came about.
It is a HUGE evacuation area so hopefully they are just being cautious and Ben and Co. will be spared...
Sure hope Ben and his family get out unscathed.
Great people.

Pray that it is consumed, or that it is spared?
You got it. Dealt with wild land fires a lot and been on both sides, homeowner and firefighter and I have nothing but respect for the power of Mother Nature. Get the important things out and don't shed a tear for the building, it's all replaceable but the lives aren't. Turn on the sprinklers around and on the house and get out to safety.
Prayers sent for all that are dealing with the fires.
They have my prayers as well. I just built a cabin a few counties over (near White Sulphur Springs) and woke up to a message that there is a wildfire raging through the area. I don't live in the cabin, so I'm waiting to hear of its fate. I guess it's part of the price to be paid for living in a place where nature abounds.
I am listening on the radio this afternoon.
Sounds like the boys are damn busy this afternoon.

Those guys that fight those fires are a different breed. Hardcore and full of moxy. I always keep those guys in my prayers because they've got a very dangerous and unsung job and they don't get the recognition they deserve.
Stay safe guys.
Its a damn tough job, for sure.
I wish I could be out there with them.....they have been calling.
Just too busy this year, and the our Chief wants his people here.
Good luck to Petroleum and Garfield counties.
Yeah smaller departments can't afford to spare too many guys or else they leave their area of responsibility undermanned. We provided mutual aid to departments in Eastern Washington several times serving in either direct wildfire attack operations or covering fire and aid to the local town freeing that department and all their resources to focus on the wildfire. I preferred covering the fire and aid calls because it was different and the injuries were often unique compared to the "city". Oftentimes the rural departments had more appropriate, task specific equipment and they spent more time drilling in wild land operations than we did so they were better suited to that and we ran a lot of aid calls and had at least one or two paramedics with us so we were better utilized in town.
You're probably better off being available as needed locally Jim, than you would if you were across the state. Either way stay safe my friend.
Yeah, I every time I go fight fire for the state, there is a huge bust at home.
It was easier as a plain old fire fighter, now that I am a Captain/EMT it is harder to get away. Hell, I have too much to do on the ranch anyway!
I hear you about covering different companies. We all have things we are better or worse at.
I would not go to New York City to cover for high rise fire, and those boys would not come over here to fight wildland fire!

I'm in.
Prayers sent up from TX !
Hey guys, thanks so much.... Out place is fine at the moment, it got awful dang close. Us and 3 awesome BLM guys kept it at bay in the cottonwoods about 160 yards from the house. I have been disking most of the afternoon because it may double back across the river... Between this side of the Musselshell and over in Garfield co, it is up to 200,000 acres and chugging on every second..
I will hang some pics later.....

Glad to hear the news bud. I hope it doesn't sneak back around and bite you. Do y'all have a lot of fuel on the ground there on account of the spruce beetles? I just spent a lot of time in the wilds of Colorado. They are in for a special kind of hell when some of those sections of forest catch on fire.
Great to hear Ben! Hope it just keeps on movin away or better yet, gets under control!
I'll just keep praying that it doesn't "boomerang".
Glad for the good news, Ben.
Prayers for sent for all in harms way from N.C.
Ben, awesome news bud!
Good luck, hopefully the wind cooperates.

Thank God.
After being at curmans place, and seeing Ben's FB pics I know just how close that fire came. I'm wondering how the neighbor just across the fence fared. It ain't over yet....
That's a life changer for sure. Best of luck on the fire.

I made Reubens and got slightly drunk.
The curman's seemed to have pulled through.
Dave
Geez, Ben...
I truly didnt realize cajun marinated shrimp could re-ignite after a month!
Be safe!
Haha! Good in both cases.
We went through Winnet one time to fight fire up near Dove Tail. We made fire camp at the Dove Tail school.
My engine boss stopped in Winnet to buy some stuff and use the bathroom. We had just come from Lewistown and I know he used the can before we left.
Worried, I asked him if he was sick or something, he said no.....you just never, ever pass up the opportunity to use a flush toilet when you are fighting fire.
Glad the Curmans are in good shape for the evening.
I will hang some pics later.....
Ben
I hate looking at the aftermath of a forest/brush fire but I'm sure glad you're all safe Ben.
I'm glad your place survived Ben. Big fires wiped out a lot of my county and the adjoining one two summers ago. It was tough to watch, and even tougher for the owners.

Similar to my boss' rule when we're traveling "first rule is never pass up free coffee or a bathroom"
Glad to hear the fire has been diverted for now.
Jim if you would have kept going straight from Dovetail school, about 23 miles later you would be at my place... Don, none of the places here in the bottom have been burned.... It was about ten yards from the two at the base of the hill. Last night was crazy to watch, it was wanting to jump the road across the river but they were backburning it. We aint out of the woods yet but with every bit that burns, we get safer I guess? Laffin. Thanks guys
Ben
Whew! Good news Ben! Glad y'all are safe!!!
That is good news!
Prayers continue form here for all the folks facing this fire.

Whew! Good news.
I prayed hard, with some recent incentive: Last week a good friend of mine lost his house burned to the ground in a forest fire west of Williams Lake, BC. He and his wife stayed on and kept fighting the fire with ranchers and nearby Rez folks to save other houses and barns.
You have mine. Glad things are looking better.

I'm going to need a status on pheasant before end of the month please.
Thanks,
Dave
Thats cool. I guess I was in the neighborhood!
When the Dovetail fire was controlled we went north on crooked creek road and fought fire on Chain Buttes for a few days.
It was kind of sporty because we could not do much work on the CMR, and we had to evacuate the marina.
So we're praying, and you're getting drunk. About par for this course.

Well, I guess we are all good at different things. But maybe if you learned to pray....
I have people for that.

"They are in for a special kind of hell when some of those sections of forest catch on fire."
True, but dry, living, needle clad trees are much worse. All that resin. Explosive, one might say. Dead forest snags won't crown out and run you over, tho the ground fire with wind may catch you.
I'd rather from experience fight bare dead-tree fire than dry, needled, live tree fire. Dead trees with their needles still on are a whole different class!
Done in the name above all names Christ Jesus.
Glad to hear mtcuman and fam have dodged the bullet, so far.

Yes indeed!
Flave, thanksfor posting this up. I would rather have the prayers of earnest people than, a fire truck at my doorstep at these times. Sereriously. Thank all of you . We were the first people on site at the Crying Fire and it connected with the Lodgepole Complex fires about four hundred yards south of us. The boys and i have been nonstop for about six days and are finally getting a break today. Sent them to winnett for supplies and a needed break from the old man. I am so proud to have been in on this kind of nasty encounter with my sons that i seriously can not express it. They got a good crash course in the manly arts this week in bulldozing, pulaski use, felling burning trees with chainsaws and most important, obeying orderss from old dad even when he does not have time to explain. They did it all week with out complaint or pay and i can,t thank them enough. We had fire on all four sides at diferent times this week and were told to evacuate two or three times, but we litterally dug in and prayed that all our efforts would be good. They were. Many thanks to the folks who come take the impossible job of fighting these fires. It may be fun running around in fancy equiptment, but they also got to get up close and damn hot at times. Job well done by all BLM and local fire fighters. Special thanks to the Crew from Fort Belknap Res. Who helped us over and above thejob description geting a line started in some
Nasty thick timber. Big balls on these guys. Could go on and on with thanks and still miss many because of the rush of all actions. Bottom line is, dont pass a chance to pray for your friends.
geoff, thanks for the update. You got a fine pair of young men helping out.

No doubt, glad to hear you guys made out with your place intact.
I couldn't imagine the circumstance of that wicked sonuvabitch bearing down on home.
Been reading reports on the internet(Billings Gazette, etc) and it sounds like a true disaster.
Hitting pretty close to home in the ranching community.
Hard to think about the rebuilding that is going to take place.
Hopefully the weather cooperates and they can get this monster under control.

You raised two fine boys.
Glad you're ok.
I would have driven down to help out but I was busy testing loads in the Krag.
Dave
Glad to hear you made it through.

Good to hear! You all need a well deserved break
Here are a few pics guys.... This was taken in my yard, the flames are around 300 yards away.
Sporty!
Doesn't look like that front yard would carry fire very well.
Glad you made it through.
What now? Grass? Cows? Hay? Water? How is it shaping up?

Yeah we mowed amd mowed and disked and dozed and then did it all again....grin
Things are looking better.. Hay is pouring in for folks who lost all their's, it is awesome to see people lending a hand.
Ben,
Looks like you have dodged a bullet.
I sincerely hope everything is Ok and you are all well.
Been a rough year but I wouldn't bet against you all.
Did the place to the northeast that was for sale get eaten up, or were the fires west of you?
Nasty either way.
Nate
So we're praying, and you're getting drunk. About par for this course.

Travis
What kind of a Christian has never prayed for a drunk.
I pray for a drink quite often. Especially during a long sermon.
Don't mess with the pistol range.....
Nate all the houses down here were saved. It was right next to that one though. You know the cottonwoods by the backstop where we were shooting pistols? It got in those, maybe 50 yards to the north of the backstop. It was all around us, north, south, east and west. Those cottonwoods were bad because they kept smoldering.. Nash and I kept going down in them a couple times a day to check on them and cut up smolderers and drag them into the black.
Yuck.
Sounds like it started at the base of the lake area.
You have all had one rough year. Fall hunting will be tough this year, i'd imagine
If we can get out that way, Neal, Steve and I can get some larder together, but it won't be til next spring.
I'd be catching some pike if they are still biting and I hope it stays out west of you.
I never thought bringing cajun shrimp into Montana would cause this much havoc....
Seriously, I hope you've got the worst of it.
Fires suck.
They are a blessing to, like floods, like the ones in California.
I hope the ones you love are safe, even if said loved ones know anybody

This thread's intent was to express concern about parts of America.
Not California.
Dave
Glad to hear you all made it through the fire.
Thank you MT Marine, we were wondering if your place was also inthe "near miss" zone. I have not been down that way yet, but would be happy to pass by there and check things out if you if you have not made it over yet. One good thing was a by product of this mess, while i was dozing firebreaks in our woods, a new 100 yard pistol range just sorta appeared in the shade. Would love to have you by to test it out with us We could also invite Flave, but i'm sure he will probably be trimming case necks or something, he' pretty busy you know.
