Anti-Trump MSNBC host Joy Reid thinks rural Americans are 'core threat' to democracy
By Brian Flood | Fox News

MSNBC host Joy Reid tweeted "This is the core threat to our democracy. The rural minority... have and will continue to have disproportionate power over the urban majority."

MSNBC host Joy Reid thinks that rural Americans are “the core threat to our democracy” and pointed to a series of tweets by liberal author Jared Yates Sexton that claimed Trump supporters “do not believe in the Constitution or any founding principles unless they're advantageous” as proof of her far-left theory.

“By 2040, about 70% of Americans are expected to live in the 15 largest states. They will have only 30 senators representing them, while the remaining 30% of Americans will have 70 senators representing them,” MSNBC producer Kyle Griffin tweeted over the weekend.

Reid, who tweets so often that it’s amazing she finds time to do anything else, has a feed that is essentially the anti-Trump talking points of the far left on a daily basis. While Sexton never specifically mentioned the “rural minority” in his rant, the MSNBC host took it upon herself to quote Griffin’s tweet add her own commentary tied to Sexton's thread.

“This is the core threat to our democracy. The rural minority -- the people @JYSexton just wrote a long thread about -- have and will continue to have disproportionate power over the urban majority,” Reid tweeted.

Reid said gerrymandering reform and “the abolition of the Electoral College would be a start” when engaging with followers on how to fix the issue.

The Resurgent editor, radio host and Fox News contributor Erick Erickson responded, “Griffin's original tweet and Reid's response highlight a core threat to our constitutional system: basic ignorance.”

Reid seems to use hateful rhetoric on a regular basis and has called Trump supporters “deplorables,” claimed that living in Trump’s America is the “worst time to be a human” in the history of the world and even referred to the Trump administration as “the apocalypse” in recent memory.

While outwardly mocking Middle America, Reid pointed to the Twitter rant of the man who recently published an anti-Trump book titled, “The People Are Going to Rise Like the Waters Upon Your Shore,” that reflects on the Trump movement. Sexton recently tweeted that “Midwesterners put up Confederate flags” because of “racism” but also “dream of being able to rise up and remake this country into a fascist place.” However, that comment was tweeted after Sexton inspired Reid with his 22-tweet thread.

“With Trump's base showing strong preferences for authoritarianism, and continuing to support a serial predator of children, it's time to look this problem in its face,” Sexton wrote to kick off the thread that inspired the MSNBC host to mock rural Americans. “This isn't a political problem. This is a societal issue, a major, major existential problem with who we are and how we view the world.”

He continued, saying the problem isn’t about Democrats and Republicans but rather “a substantial group in this country who are okay with a president who would stamp out free speech, free press, and are comfortable with foreign influence and collusion.” Sexton said the people he was referencing don’t care about mass shootings, support fascism and “didn't blink when a woman was murdered by white supremacists,” -- an apparent reference to the killing in Charlottesville, Va., last August.

“They only care about our laws and customs when they help them. They do not believe in the Constitution or any founding principles unless they're advantageous,” he wrote. “They've always been here. They've been slaveholders. They've been confederates. They've been our neighbors. They've been our family.”

He continued: “Republicans fostered them as a means to push their policies and leveraged their worst instincts. Now, they've lost hold of the leash and have been taken over from the inside.”

Sexton said Trump “didn’t create” the issue but “is the total personification of this worldview.”

The liberal author added, “there's literally no telling what they'll stand by” and noted that “there are Americans who hold Adolf Hitler in high regard” because he had “good” ideas.

“If people like Trump continue to push them further, there's literally no telling what they'll allow or what they'll support. This is how a democracy backslides into a fascist state,” Sexton wrote.

Erickson wrote, “To have a national ‘news’ host call rural America a ‘core threat’ to our democracy is both striking arrogance and striking ignorance.”
Excuse me while I find a tissue to dry my eye.
Was this maybe from the Onion?

They're really gonna be pissed when those deplorable hicks tell em to start planting gardens on the roofs of those high rise apt. buildings because they ain't selling em any more food.

The mere fact Trump is president and drives people like Joy Reid nuts makes anything Trump does worthwhile...........
"This is the core threat to our democracy. The rural minority... have and will continue to have disproportionate power over the urban majority."

Yea, we city folk really need to do something about those pesky farmers and water plant operators.
we live in a Democratic Republic that protects or rights and individual freedoms just like the founding fathers set forth. They knew that a pure democracy would not work, because the have not's would vote to take everything, which is about what currently happening anyway.
bring it mutherfu-kers. smile
The hell with her
All the rural have to do is to stop feeding them, within 30 days the problem that now exists would be over.
And they're probably all still clinging to their guns and bibles also, which makes them even more deplorable to the elites.

Do you ever get the impression that the word "democracy" has a different meaning to liberals? I think to them it means they live in a "democracy" if they advance their interests ahead of anyone else's that don't have the same agenda.
I'd like to see it changed to where only landowners can vote. That would really flip her lid!
What democracy is he referring to that is threatened....isn't this a Republic?

Or at least taxpayers. That would nullify the vote of 2/3 of the big cities.

Funny..........I've long thought that the Propaganda Corps publishing and broadcasting lies and calling it "news" was the biggest threat to democracy.
Just when you think liberals can't say or do anything dumber...just be patient.
Yup, little Idaho gets as many senators...and 2 automatic electoral votes...as CA or NY. Do away with the electoral college? Do they think we're stupid?
The 13th Amendment was such a waste.

I second that idea! Right now all the non property owners are quick to vote for issues that place a tax on property owners. Cheers NC

I agree, unfortunately still waaaay too much complacency on the part of the redneck. Beer, televison, gasoline, and hunting season is still too abundant. As well as the closet NFL fans!

I personally feel the sooner we get this schidt going the better. I'm gonna get too damn old to to anything if they keep their damn Pussy footing around!

Yes! Im a big damn threat to "their' democracy! But im a rabid supporter of "our" Republic!

I would certainly not be opposed to some type of "means test" to determine voter eligibility.

I mean, it's crazy that people who do not pay taxes or contribute to our society get to vote on how our tax dollars are spent, right?

People that have no "skin in the game" are always going to vote to take more of yours.

Personally, I think that's not a bad idea. It should be like a company, one where only the shareholders are allowed to vote. You own property and pay taxes............then you get to vote. You don't own anything and pay no taxes.......then shut the blank up.

Years ago, I was discussing this same topic with a person, about our local schools. I said that I thought that since people who owned property had to pay school taxes, even if they didn't have children attending school, then those people who had children but paid no school tax, should be forced to do community work for those schools. That's how it ought to operate.

that most folks say it kind of mechanically...citing it like they are a drone...
and sort of never really pausing as they recite it, so it all just runs together like
one big sentence...

When I say it, I say it like it is written... with each sentence and a pause
at where the sentence ends...

In doing so, I am not saying it like a Robotic Drone, but affirming each sentence

I pledge allegiance....

to the Flag...of the United States of America

and to the Republic... for which it stands..

ONE NATION... Under God...

with Liberty.... And Justice For ALL...

Reaffirming each concept....for my heart and mind to hear and contemplate thankfulness

Because despite all the Anti American Liberals we have within our midst,

and I am well aware as I say that pledge, of the many who have gone before us
and what they sacrificed in their time, so that we have what we have in OUR Time..

with prayer to pass it on, unaltered for those that will come after us...
I read a history book by Clement Wood, "A Complete History of The United States". Among other things, Wood talked about debtor rule.People voting that did not pay taxes. He had not much good to say about loose constructionism either.
Interesting that they are afraid of rural folks destroying the country... Last few times I have seen videos of folks rioting, burning, destroying things, IIRC it seemed to be occurring in the large cities...
AND, I am deplorable too. ;-{>8

Seems to me that Americans these days are forced to remain together in a political system even though it's apparent that a huge cultural divide has occurred.

Some separation would be a very good thing at this point.
By the way, the author of the Pledge of Allegiance was a socialist.

It was penned well after the Civil War in 1892.

Francis Bellamy would have voted for Bernie Sanders.

Yep!

Word for word! smile
When America was first founded, only property owners could vote. This is because they had a vested interest in the country. Then when Andrew Jackson got in, an amendment was added allowing all free men to vote. Then after the War of Northern aggression, the free black men could vote. Then in 1920 women could vote. We have become more of a bureaucratic democracy than a true republic. Various bureaucratic agencies now make rules and regulations that are not even voted on. Such as OSHA, EPA, etc. One of the reasons for the westward expansion was to stake a claim on some land, have voting rights, and have self determination. Even Jefferson said he hoped America would remain a rural country, and not have large dirty cities like the Europeans had. It did stay that way until about 1900 with 80-90% of the people still living on farms. By 1940 40% of Americans were still on farms. Inheritance taxes destroyed the family farms.

Cities are a cesspool of poverty. Even New York has about 40%-45% of the people relying on some sort of government subsidy, thus become democrats. People went there years ago looking for jobs. With the factories moving overseas, no real jobs are available today in the cities. Most farming today is from large corporate farms, who took over inherited land because of high taxes. Sad. In the 1800's a family could produce all their food with excess to sell on 40 acres. Today a family can produce all their food on less than one acres IF they use greenhouses, and raise fish in tanks (tilipia mostly). They would have very little money. Probably not enough to even pay the taxes. So at least one person in the family would have to get a job.

We need to stop illegal immigration. Limit immigration to only those who speak english and have a skillset to keep them off government doles. Bring factories back to America to provide good paying middle class working jobs that have insurance. Simple solution. Income would rise, even lower skills because of no illegals, would rise because of the "shortage of labor". Even FDR would not "give" welfare money to people out of work. He said they would loose the work ethic. He made work with government jobs planting trees, building roads, building power dams, building bridges, etc. Can't give the poor fish, must teach them to fish.

It is interesting that conservatives are viewed by the left as preferring authoritarianism. If anyone cared to dig deeper they'd discover the real truth. We don't want an authoritarian, but we sure as hell want someone with the stones to shake up the schidthole that is DC.

Rock Chuck: This is more proof that liberalism is a mental disease.
I literally have to force myself to watch this racist black bitch from time to time - the purpose for my watching her is to try and figure out the black racist mentality in todays America and what the anti-Americans, communists/socialists/demonrats/progressives are doing.
More lies come out of this skanks mouth per minute than any other human being I have ever run across!
And thats saying something because I dealt with career criminals and psychotics for 29 years, professionally.
Again in my opinion this racist bitch is mentally diseased.
Sad state of affairs here in America that she is allowed to spew lies, hate and racism on T.V.

Don't get me started on the cow tipping. I am still waiting for some city-slicker who openly professes to have gone "cow-tipping" to come down my way and demonstrate how it is done... Have pulled a $100 bill out of my wallet a couple times and offered to pay them to show me how to do it. Tell them that my daughter and SIL have cattle scattered across several farms. They can take their pick. Still haven't lost a penny on the offer...
Washington D.C. is the enemy of OUR republic.
I hope one day she gets robbed at gunpoint and cries out for some redneck gun owner to save her, and he laughs at her to her face.

Trash.

I agree, but... We have a huge dairy industry here. The dairymen rely heavily on illegals because they can't get enough legals to do the work. Our whole green card system needs a serious overhaul. I would like too see a system where guest workers can come and work but which doesn't lead to citizenship. The employers are required to pay enough wages so the workers aren't eligible for any government benefits like medical, welfare, etc. When the workers quit or retire they go home. If they want to stay, they have to go through the visa system like anyone else.

There is a lot of tobacco grown here in my part of Kentucky. It's nothing unusual to see growers raising upwards of a 100 acres of it. Tobacco is a very labor intensive crop, with most of the work done by hand. Just about every farmer employs Mexicans that come here under the H2-A guest worker program. They come here to work, and are guaranteed so many hours at a certain wage, and after the work is finished, they go back to Mexico. It's a win-win situation for both parties. They are needed, because there aren't local workers wanting to work that hard.
I've gotten to know a number of the Mexican workers, that either work for my in-laws or the neighbor that rents my farm, and there are some really nice guys among them. I had a cow that wouldn't accept her calf, and one of the Mexican workers that's known to be good with cattle, came over and got the calf to nursing, and the cow eventually accepted it.

I give illegals a hard time more than anyone on here, but as long as someone comes here willing to work, and under the rules of their employment, I have no problem. They are doing jobs that American workers won't do.

True. I started farming in 1972. I grew tobacco as my main cash crop, and had to hire labor. Back in those days, there was a huge labor pool available. It mostly consisted of families who had worked for local farmers for generations, kids wanting a summer job, or a person who was already had a job, but wanted extra money. There was always a lot of help to choose from, and I worked men, women, kids, Blacks, and Whites. Over the years, that labor pool all but dried up, and the last 3 years I grew tobacco.....1998, 1999, and 2000, I had Mexicans doing the harvesting.

The local labor dried up because of several things.......better paying factory jobs, the older people either died or got too old to work, and the welfare system. The welfare system turned a number of what had been hard working people, who had to work or starve, into people that didn't want to work. There had always been a large number of Blacks who worked in the tobacco industry, but as the older passed on, the younger ones found the welfare system to be a much easier way of making a living.
kinda makes me proud to be a country boy!

Which is actually correct. The founding fathers did not intend both houses to be the people's house, the senate was intended to represent the member states of the republic. With the Seventeenth Amendment the state governments lost representation, AND THE REPUBLIC DIED!!

Tough [bleep]. Pay enough and you'll have help. I wish they'd imprison people who hire illegals.
If it was a felony to employ a single undocumented alien, the risk of employing them would exceed the reward for most people.

Couple that with a system of fines that doubled for each subsequent undocumented alien employed would go over $1,000,000 cumulatively on the 7th offense if the fines started at just $10,000 for the first offense.

1st offense = $10,000
2nd offense = $20,000 ($30,000)
3rd offense = $40,000 ($70,000)
4th offense = $80,000 ($150,000)
5th offense = $120,000 ($270,000)
6th offense = $240,000 ($510,000)
7th offense = $580,000 ($1,090,000)
8th offense = $1,160,000 ($2,250,000)

If you want to rid yourself of vermin, you take away their source of food.

If you want to rid yourself of undocumented aliens, you take away their ability to earn a living and feed their families.

Or so it seems to me.

Which is actually correct. The founding fathers did not intend both houses to be the people's house, the senate was intended to represent the member states of the republic. With the Seventeenth Amendment the state governments lost representation, AND THE REPUBLIC DIED!!

True. The Constitution was constructed so the U.S. Senators represented their States' legislatures, which were elected by the people of each State.

The Seventeenth Amendment wrecked that representation.

Rural people sure are a threat to a European, socialist democracy.

They feed themselves. Some of them feed everyone who goes to a supermarket.

They arm themselves. Some of them could arm everyone who goes to a supermarket.

They dont believe in gay marriage, transexuality or any number of things that just do not survive without artificial support or ideas that do not function on merit.

By and large, most wish to be left alone.
