My beautiful niece lost her battle with cancer that started as a small lesion on her skin. earlier detection would have made a difference. this wonderful girl was only 45 years old. Please don't ignore this killer. Melanoma can be cured if caught early.

I'm so sorry Tom. I work outdoors so this is unsettling.
I'm sorry about your loss.

Yes, skin cancers can kill. Especially melanoma, but there are others as well.
So sad. I’m sorry for all those that loved her.

Good heads up about melanoma.
Deerstalker, I'm very sorry to hear of the untimely death of your niece. My sympathy is sent to you and your family.

L.W.
So sorry to hear that
My condolences.
Ah hell Tom I’m sorry to hear this. Life can sure be the chits at times. I don’t know if it’s true; but I’ve heard it said, that when you meet again in the happy hunting ground, it’s like you’ve been apart only a few hours. Sure hope it’s that way.
Very sorry for your loss.
the most beautiful flames always go out to soon. our hearts will be forever broken and the family are launching a campaign of awareness. i pray no one here has the same heartbreak.
unpublished studies shared with us this week show that those of her generation are more at risk because of different factors .
also there is a genetic test for a specific mutated gene one can have that reveals the greater risk .
condolences, sorry to hear of your family's loss.
So sorry for your loss. May her family and friends find peace and comfort.
sorry for your loss. my brother is a survivor of melonoma. prayers for the family
Prayers for healing and comfort for you and your family.
Prayers sent.

Condolences...melanoma is something we around here are acutely aware of.

Tom, so sorry to hear of your loss. Beautiful lady and I know her family is missing her terribly. Prayers for your family.
Sorry for your loss - condolences and prayers sent for the soul of thet beautiful young lady, and her family.

Yes, everyone - keep an eye out for changes in moles, differences in spots, new spots, anything different!

I, personally, see the dermatologist annually - and have pre-cancerous lesions frozen off. this regimen will become bi-annual at some point, but I'm still doing well enough that once yearly is fine. Thank God, I was seen early, and am seen regularly! Prevention is best, but maintenance is the next best!

My dermatologist told my grandson, at one visit, to take care - as most skin cancers are propagated between the ages of 12 and 24 - news to me!

I’m sorry to hear of your loss. She was beautiful. And cancer sucks.
So sorry for your loss.
RIP Krista, so sorry for your loss!

May God hold Krista in His hand. Prayers sent for all friends and family.
Godspeed.

Hits a bit close to home. Mom has had two melanomas removed just this year. Makes me a bit paranoid for me own epidermis.
Didn't know that Mooner, is everything OK now?
Yes sir. Mom and Dad both had some spots carved out .
Pops was a slower type. Basal I believe. Mom’s were both melanomas.

Scary stuff and a somber reminder by DeerStalker to pay attention to our health.

Very Sorry for You and your Family

Hank
Wow so sorry to hear of your loss!

I just lost a good friend to cancer.
Sure hate to hear about your lovely niece. Prayers sent.
Deerstalker,
My prayers go out to her family and to you and your family.
Sorry for your loss.
Very sorry to hear Tom, Prayers for the family.

I hate cancer.
So very sorry to hear this, sir. If I may ask, where was the original lesion discovered?

Unfortunately so.
Condolences to you and your family.
Sorry to hear this. I was at the dermatologist yesterday for my semi-annual checkup. Had two places frozen, and have to go back in 6 weeks to have them check it again, and possibly do a biopsy on it. Never gave it a second thought all those years I'd be working outside and pull my shirt off, although most of my places are where the "farmers tan" is. Skin cancer can be a mean booger.
We lost an electrician at work from the same thing. RIP
My brother got all the girls while growing up. But he had a small bald spot on his head, where no hair would ever grow, about the size of a quarter. He was vain about his appearance , and that vanity may have saved his life. He kept asking his doctor about methods of growing hair, transplants, ect, until he was sent to a specialist. That specialist found something suspicious, and sent him to another specialist who realized what that bald spot really was (a form of cancer that can lay dormant or spread very quickly.)
It was discovered on a Tuesday, and cut out by Thursday of the same week. The bald spot was reduces to the size of a dime in the process. He had had it for several years. It was tested after removal. Benign.

Sorry for your loss sir. Knee-mail outbound.

Edit: ironicly, his zodiac sign is CANCER.
Tom So sorry to read this, prayers sent!
Sorry to hear this, condolences to you

I have to get myself back to the dermo, been a sun junky and roof monkey for too many years. I was always "that guy" that went into every store without a shirt on. White boy that looked like I was from Calcutta.
So far just had small benigners froze off
So sorry to hear. Our prayers to you and yours.
Sorry to hear this. Truly tragic.
My condolences also.

Last summer I had an upper body checkup. They did a biopsy on a spot on my arm that was nothing. They found a squamous cell cancer in my ear. They were able to remove it easily. Melanoma is far more serious, though.
I felt an odd squishy lump on the back of my neck. Felt like a blister. Claudia said it was dark red. Our family doctor removed it as a precaution and sent it in. Turned out to be a melanoma and he sent me to a specialist immediately. The skin doc did some more excavation. That was in August of 2016

Then he said, "If you had ignored this until Christmas, I'd have been advising you to make a will."

Since then, I've developed a carcinoma and had that plus several pre-cancerous spots frozen or removed. I'm now down from skin checks every six weeks to every six months, and that will continue indefinitely. By the way, Utah has the highest rate of skin cancer of any state. They think it's a combination of the high altitude and lots of outdoor sports. I suspect mine was from high altitude in a jet. The only place on me not covered was the back of my neck, and that bubble canopy let in a lot of strong sunlight.
Very sorry for your loss. As a survivor I can attest that cancer really SUCKS!
Sad news. I'm real sorry for her and her family. That is a bad deal...
I'm truly sorry for your loss, may God comfort you and your family.
Tom,

You and your family have my sincere condolences and my prayers.

My Mom died of Melanoma.

Rocky, and anyone else here who has skin cancer, get yourself to M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. They are the ones who developed the immunotherapy for Melanoma and the care at that hospital has to be seen to be believed. It is like no other medical facility I've ever been in.

Ed
I am so sorry for your family's loss. Prayers for comforting and strength.
Tragic! Prayers offered.
Some years ago I read about a big increase in skin cancer in farmers. It started when chemical companies started handing out free ball caps. Farmers quit wearing broad brimmed hats and the ear and neck cancers skyrocketed.
I'm sorry for your loss

can't endorse this enough! also there is a specialist there that discovered the mutated gene that determines your ability to fight off cancer with your own immune system. Both my niece and her mother have/had that mutated gene. My sister in law, Krista's mother, has been battling one type or the other of cancer for 20 years.
I'm very sorry for your loss, and you have my condolences..

My wife is a women's cancer nurse - and just a few days ago told me about two of her surgeon's patients that died; and both were under 45 years old.. I don't know how she does her job some days, but she's been on that job for over 30 years..
this is a billboard we have commissioned across the country. can't tell she loved Corgi's can you?

Condolences.
That's really sad. May her soul rest in peace.
Deerstalker, I am sorry for your loss. This is a real tragedy.
Damn, way to young,Sorry for the loss...
Sorry for your loss.

NYH1.
That's heart wrenching. This reminds me of the story of one of my favorite singers of all time- Eva Cassidy. She had a skin issue that no one suspected and took her way too early at around 28 I believe. Eva's singing tunes with your lovely niece right now buddy.

My condolences deerstalker, melanoma is very deadly if not caught early. I had a melanoma removed almost 30 years ago when I was 21 years old, doctor thought I would have been dead within a year and half if they hadn't removed it when they did. My doctor noticed it during a routine exam and said we ought to remove it and have it checked. I thank God that he did.
My condolences to you and your extended family. I lost a cousin to melanoma also. She passed at a very your age. If I recall, she was around 24. May you have HIS spirit with you and may you feel of HIS love and comfort.

peddler, i hadn't thought of Eva for years. was one of my top list singers. bright flames go out to soon.
So sorry. God Bless to you all.
So young and stunningly beautiful...she's just 2 months older than my wife. Very sad. Please accept my condolences to your and yours at what must be a heart wrenching time. I applaud your efforts to spread awareness despite your grief. Godspeed.
So sorry to hear of this. Cancer is a terrible thing that affects far to many families. Thoughts and prayers to your family. memtb
Tom, sorry for your loss.

Skin cancer runs in my wife’s family, so I’m a bit paranoid. I’ve been to the dermatologist 4 or 5 times now whenever one of my many moles or skin tabs goes wonky. So far, so good

This stuff is nothing to mess around with.

Thanks for your post as a reminder to all. Caught early, it is generally curable. Again, so sorry for your family’s loss at such an early age, especially.
I'm also sorry to hear about your family's loss. Tragic don't even come close.
I had a Melanoma when I turned 40. Eight weeks of chemo and a couple shots of radiation
and I was declared cancer free and got a rubber yellow bracelet for all of the puking
and endless headaches, but my kiddos still have their dad. They give me the once over every
year and freeze anything that looks suspicious.
It's not always obvious. Those little spots don't always jump out at you. I got lucky.
Again,y'all have my sincerest condolences.
being it's summer please all remember.

Gosh what a terrible thing. I'm very sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful lady. My heart goes out to you and yours.

Since moving from the far north to the desert southwest this has been one of those issues that absolutely terrifies me. I don't set foot outside without a hat and a good slathering of sunscreen. I harp on my wife and daughter all the time about sun exposure. My daughter in particular has skin a shade or two lighter than a glass of milk and doesn't take long to burn. But she doesn't listen. Despite her aunt having been diagnosed with melanoma just a couple years ago. This is one of those things that people just don't take very seriously but should.
Sorry for your loss.
Wear a hat, not a cap. Long sleeve shirts. Sun block on face and hands. Throw those shorts away.

Having said that , my good friend ,while he wears a hat, still wears shorts and short sleeve shirts while we fish in the blazing summer sun. Every six months he goes to a dermatologist to have the pre-cancerous spots removed.

Stalker, I'm so sorry for your loss.
Sorry Tom. The pain of losing a child is unimaginable.
Heartbreaking to hear, sorry for your loss

Thanks for the reminder.
the loss is everyones, she was that kind of a person.
the message is her legacy. watch and react .
My sincere condolences!
A friends wife had a small spot on her leg. It was melanoma and she did not catch it in time. She was in her 50s.
I'm sorry you lost your Niece Tom.

My condolences to you and your family.
My heart and prayers go out to you and yours, My family has also been a victim of this dreaded disease. Again god bless her .
Colon cancer took my SIL three years after the birth of her first child after trying for over ten years to conceive. One of the sweetest people I’ve ever met and battled it like the fiercest warrior to ever walk the earth.
