A question for all of you Movie buffs out there. Who knows the make, model and caliber of the rifle carried by "Walk'n Boss" that he used to kill Luke ??

I need one of those super accurate rifles. Do you remember when he shot the hawk in flight with open sights???

I'll give him the layup shot on the snapping turtle. But the flying hawk.. com'on man!!

That's why my wife and kids hate to watch movies with me..
I'm thinking that it was a Winchester Model 70, don't remember why. I haven't seen the movie since the year that it was released, so I won't bet any money on it. smirk
Ever thought about typing your question into Google?

That's what I did:

http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Cool_Hand_Luke
It says pre 64 model 70

google takes the challenge and fun out of it. Just trying to stir a little conversation to break up the cabin fever.

Ok. Now see if Google can tell you what caliber it was in. Cartridges in the shell holder on his belt looked bigger than 22-250 or 223 or 243.

Open sights is about the only way to hit a flying target. Scopes don't work very well on birdguns...
It was a 30-06 Gov
Forget about the rifle. I want Charlie's 16 shot revolver he used in Open Range.

No need to reload so often.
A Creedmoor. Any Creedmor.
The link I posted above says 30-06. Looks about right. And fits the scenario of what calibers movie blanks were used..

Youre contradicting yourself.

You state that google takes the challenge and fun out of it BUT then you want us to google the caliber for you?

That would be 4.
The cup that the warden had on his desk in the motion picture Cool Hand Luke
When I was young my dad and I were doing something on our hills farm. Lots of cattails and blackbirds. With his old 22 he showed me how he could shoot them out of the air. Didn’t do me any good but was very impressed. When deer hunting. We always pushed the deer out. He would roll em over with ease. Ed k
That was the one with Wilford Brimley right?
Maybe four ounces, but my balls touch the water in every one of nem derr yankee terlots when I travel

In all sincerity that site slumlord and rockingbar posted really is incredible.

It will answer every gun question you have ever had.
Wasn't it supposed to be a bullet that killed Luke?

Okay....you know that second part to the toilet seat?

There is the solid one that you cant pee through, right?

Then there is a second part to the seat that looks kind of like a horseshoe?

Use the horse shoe shaped seat when you sit down. I know it may seem different at first, but you aint supposed to put your whole ass in the water.

Clean up with the paper....not the water.
Wut?
Surely you didn't call me Shirley.

You ever played toilet seat horseshoes?
hahaha!

Is that like having the bumpers up at the bowling alley?

Da hell with that, just use the square or round thing attached to the wall, they usually have two knobs that turn and a reamer in between. Depending on your height you might need a stool to stand on. Lots of folk even have those little brushes in a pretty holder to clean up with afterwards.

Back when I was growing up, I went dove hunting a lot with my Dad, who would sometimes go along with one of his friends named Rance. Rance was very infrequently sober, and would knock more doves out of the air WITH AN OPEN SIGHTED 22 rifle than the rest of us could with shotguns!

I take it you've never shot a model 70 Winchester.
More CHL trivia. Pay attention, there will be a test later about what kind of car she's washing. Any man googles the answer spends a night in the box. Any man who actually watches the car instead of the girl spends a night in the barrel...

I saw the movie, but I didn't think it special that "Walk'n Boss" shot the hawk out of the air. Heck, I cut my teeth on shooting dragonflies out of the air with a BB gun. OK who's next?
I think I went through puberty at 7 when I first saw that scene.

No. That was Crossfire Trail. First movie I've ever seen where a character used an Evans rifle.
Paul B.
The only thing I remember about the movie was the car wash scene.

This question has been asked and answered in a past thread. Search for it to find out the definitive answer.
seen my dad shoot skeet with a 22 rifle more than once when he was young.
Hmmm...I thought it was a guy who used a rifle....didn't know the rifle did it all by itself!
what car? all i saw was headlights
My grandpa grew up with only a .22 and could routinely take ducks on the wing with one - 50:50 at least. He wasn't as good as expected with a shotgun though - he probably shot it like a .22.
Yes. As stupid kid I pulled several pigeons and a few vultures out of the air with a 22LR. Much more effective with open sights than with a scope.
Plenty of people saw my old man drop flying ducks with an open sighted .22. Consistently enough too, not just the once. I've always been a bit more concerned about where the bullet might end up, though I did do it once. Not really harder than rolling a running bunny, which I've done many times.

Is that assertion based on any actual experience? I've shot lots of flying targets with scoped guns. Birds and clays. Lots of running targets too. Open sights add nothing to a birdgun, and scopes - if properly mounted and at low magnification - work fine.

They work well on Turkey guns.

I know those in West Texas that kill their quail with their deer rifles.
Went shooting in the desert with a pard in the Navy. He was busting clays routinely with an AK-47. He was a 2nd class GM and was the right man for the job.
I just want to know - who was the actress in the carwash scene? smile
I took a rifle course at Gunsite years ago and the final exercise was shooting skeet clay pigeons. They were flying straight out though. As bad as I am at Sporting Clays I might as well shoot a rifle.

Actually putting a scope on a shotgun and shooting doves with it, makes a person with a scoped rifle pretty fast at aquiring and shooting with a scope... Tried it once, once I got the hang of it, it was a good training tool for rifles...

even with all those criminals around he didn't strut around with a hot chamber.

odd that he was wearing his shades at night when he shot Luke standing at the window.
