An 18-year-old man survived an 11-story fall last night, but police say he’s still in the hospital.

Police say the man was with a group of people inside a room at the Omni Hotel on Shoreline.

The 18-year-old man, who police say was intoxicated, fell from the 11th floor.

He hit a tarp and some plexiglass and that may have helped break his fall.

The unidentified man was taken to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Police say a criminal mischief charge is pending because of damage to the inside of the hotel room.

MAY have helped break his fall? Whats the terminal velocity of a human body before it hits concrete?
Yeah, i think that helped break his fall better than concrete.

They have good chocolate chip cookies.
"Fell out an 11 story window again"
Concrete poisoning !

It's not he terminal velocity of a body as it hits concrete that matters; it's the sudden stop! smile

How do you figure the deceleration from the tarp and the plexiglass?
What would be that value, in fps?
100fps = 68.1818 mph

He was just dropping in, you know? whistle
there was a girl who fell off the 8th floor balcony of a hotel out on north beach several years ago, she was able to walk away with just bruises, sand cushioned her fall.

No, Concrete is very efficient in breaking falls. In fact it breaks the fall immediately.

Stupid drunk MFer can't even manage an attempt at the Darwin Award.

32 FPS/PS in about 110 feet, with minor adjustments for drag.
I doubt his ballistic coefficient was very high, even though he was until he hit bottom.
People who sky dive fall about 200 mph. 11 stories may not have gotten that fast. A skydiver in Montgomery, Alabama had his parachute fail to open, then the tried his back up chute, and it failed. He landed someones grass front yard. He landed and fell on one side, broke both legs in multiple places, falling over broke all ribs on one side as well as his arm in multiple places. Broke his neck, but didn't hurt the spinal column. He survived with no major internal injuries, but was in a full body cast, according to the news. Don't know how he turned out. Probably months of rehab.
'I've fallen and I can't get up...'
11 stories equals ~110feet equals ~ 35m.

At 35m he was doing about 95 km/hr, or nearly 60 mph.

Unknown: was this a toga party? If so, he would have been wrapped in a bed sheet and that would add considerably to air friction, kind of like an unopened chute that flaps in the wind.
