I have run into any until this week, and MAN i got a mess of them chewing me to pieces.

Nasty little buggers
Yep. They suck. Try powdered sulfur before you go out next time.
Loved to lay in the grass as a kid in the Summers in Oregon. Then moved to Oklahoma. Learned real quick you couldn't do that or you'd get gigantic itching welts on your sack or under your underwear band. WTF?

They're proof God has a sense of humor.

Moved back to Oregon and never missed having those bastards.

Spare yourself the misery and amputate. just sayin.
Clear fingernail polish will quiet them.

That actually does nothing since the bug aren't there.

They bite, feed, and drop off.
The sores and itching are a reaction to the bites.
Never had them. I don't think they are around here, I have heard people
talk about how bad they are, but never had anyone tell me they got into
them around here.

And I'm ok with that!
Chig Away is your best friend, before or after....
CHIGGERS:::: Don't actually bite they drill tiny holes in your skin an excrete saliva which breaks down you skin then they suck the soup up!!! I HATE THE F----S
i have lone star tick disease and I have heard doctors saying that chiggers may be carrying the same disease now.
Bleach or fingernail polish et al does no good. OLD WIVES tale. After you are bitten, use Tea Tree Oil on the affected area 2-3 times a day... it is the only thing I have found that works 100% of the time. Cuts recovery from 2 weeks to 1-2 days.
When I was a kid I got eat up with them all the time. But as an adult I don't know if I to sour thick-skinned or what but I haven't had a chigger bite in years actually get very few ticks on me. And I live in the sticks work outside and always in the dirt or grass
Disagree about the bleach. When I have been in the scrub all day, come home and put 2 caps full of bleach in a bath. You will have a slight smell but it gets rid of the little buggers. Have to do it right away though. Do not wait till bed time.

BS. The fingernail polish DOES stop the itching.

Neil
Gasoline gets them off, Burns a little bit!

When the little suckers are chewing away it just about makes me want to burn them with gas....

I need to check into the “Chig away” ... never heard of it
haven't had them since i was a teen.

This!

By the time it starts to itch, the chigger is long gone.

After extensive experience with them, the best prevention in my Army days was to wear all leather boots and keep the pants tucked in. They would crawl right through jungle boots.
Have also tried all the home remedies and actually found one that works. Extra strength Clearasil medicated acne pads. Not a magical remedy, but cleared up the itchy bites faster than anything else.
Chiggers are the devil bug. When you think you may encounter them bug spray works but spandex treated in pymethrin is 100%. 40 or more welts will keep you awake for a while. Tea tree oil works to some extent although the odor is repugnant. Interesting read below learn the places to avoid and cover up and wash up immediately after getting out of the areas they are prevalent.

Good luck and shoot straight y'all

This
I got the worst case ever a few years ago. Ankles to mid foot were one solid chigger bit.
Maximum Strength Aspercreme with Lidocaine takes cares of it really well.

If I ever win the Mega-lotto thing I am going to invest at least half in the eradication of chiggers. I hate the little bastids!
being from up north i didn't know what chiggers were when i was stationed in ms. thought i had some kind of VD. nasty fuggers

CHIGGERS::::

CHEE'-groes.......racist!
I'd never had them until going to Camp Gruber for training.

Between the ticks and the chiggers and the rain that was probably the worst training exercise I've ever been on. If it wasn't raining it was hot and muggy.

Fifty-Shades of Slum.
Campho-Phenique gel.....stops the itch in minutes.
just did a bunch of work on my deer hunting land and got tore up. They got me on my arms and neck....pure misery!
You don't know misery until they get you on the dick & balls.
Had 'em quite a lot over the 35+ years since moving to Texas. They leave a saliva tube which causes the immune response which causes the itching.

Got no answers, I just scratch 'em bloody, prob'ly scratching the tube out.

Chiggers and Fire Ants, just part of living down South. Neither are a problem up north.

Did get the little bastards once here in northeast South Dakota. Never had them or ticks here when I was a kid.

On that saliva tube thing, I wonder how a piece of Gorilla Tape would work to remove them? It has a thicker layer of stickum than regular duct tape.

They are bad here in the hills. Treat clothes with permanone. Wear rubber knee boots to minimize them getting on you. If they do don't scratch them. If you don't scratch the sores heal in a couple of days. If you scratch they last up to a couple of weeks.

Listen to this guy^^^^^^^ he has now been made a believer laugh

Chiggers only get on people who have never had them before.

BECAUSE, if you've EVER had them, you fuggin learn to never go back into thick brushy areas during summer and fall months without mulitple prophylactic measures.

If you've gotten them more than twice, youre just stupid.

I posted my best advice on last week's chigger thread.

Not so fast....we deal with chiggers here in the north.

I bought this for my GSP because he had ringworm on his undercarriage and it worked.

Douxo Chlorhexidine PS + Climbazole Shampoo

But - a few months ago chiggers were tearing me a new one so I grabbed a washcloth and scrubbed my legs with it and it worked. I can't explain it, but it worked.

Why did I scrub my legs with pet shampoo? Because soaking them with kerosene and setting them on fire seemed a little extreme.
You may be on to something. Googling the ingredients they all are used in people products.
