The committee also warned other athletes that future protests could face more serious consequences.

"It is also important for me to point out that, going forward, issuing a reprimand to other athletes in a similar instance is insufficient," USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland wrote in the letters, which were obtained by the Associated Press.

"We recognize that we must more clearly define for Team USA athletes what a breach of these rules will mean in the future," Hirshland wrote. "Working with the (athletes and national governing body councils), we are committed to more explicitly defining what the consequences will be for members of Team USA who protest at future Games."

US fencer punished for kneeling on podium at Pan Am Games, other athletes warned
By Brie Stimson | Fox News

Two U.S. athletes were given a year of probation by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) for staging protests while on the podium at the Pan American Games earlier this month, letters sent Tuesday revealed.

Hammer thrower Gwen Berry raised her fist and fencer Race Imboden took a knee while on the medal stand last week in Lima, Peru. All athletes at the Pan American Games and the Olympics agree to rules forbidding political protest.

After his protest, Imdoen tweeted “Racism, gun control, mistreatment of immigrants, and a president who spreads hate are at the top of a long list" of issues that need to be addressed.

Berry said she was protesting social injustice in the United States. It was "too important to not say something,” she said.

Both athletes are eligible for the Olympics next year in Tokyo.

From FOX News
With the exception of small-bore rifle and shotgun events, the Olympics have degenerated into a hive of communism and f.aggotry.
Well.. Bye.

Laughing. About time.
If they protest, they should be stripped of any and all Medals they’ve won while representing the USA, and be required to reimburse all of the travel expenses AND BANNED For Life from Competing in The Olympics 😡

BINGO!
The person(s) doing the reprimanding will be the one(s) replaced.
Probation is not a punishment.

Hell, it's barely a slap on the wrist.

Yep, I'd say that covers it. Probably no legal standing to strip them of their citizenship and leave them standing (or kneeling) in the country where it takes place, huh?

(In MY world, there would be!)

You're assuming Peru would have them. We wouldn't want another country's traitors dumped on us, would we?
Sam Colt put fencing in the "obsolete" category for good, anyway.
If they (the committee) actually intended this to sting, it should've suspended them from the olympics

All they did was get a time out...to train more
Ban fencing for 8 years!
Hey, no reason to stick up for the 1st amendment. Only the 2nd one counts, right?

Yup. Gotta muzzle 'em, lest they scare someone with free speech. Fidel would have appreciated such rules.

WTF does the 1st Amendment have to do with this? The USA is their employer, and they sign a contract with rules. Apparently, protesting isn't allowed in the contract. You are F'ing daft.

It's not their Forum to corrupt, you dumb fugk.

Just like panning for gold, eating Tide Pods, or chasing tail. You do it on your own time.
Glad to see they have the strength and intestinal fortitude to stick to "NO Politics" unlike the nfl

Well, that's a way to look at it.

I wasn't allowed to hang political posters at my work station, or do anything political in an official capacity during my employment. I was free to express myself on my own time. I'd guess they have the same sort of arrangement.

If they don't like it, just as it was for me, they could find another "job".

Maybe my jobs with the agencies I worked for were muzzling me. Probably just good "business" practice.

Would it be OK if those "protestors" proselytized for a religious cause? (You choose a brand) Stump for a commercial outfit?

A US Olympic athlete that protests the USA should be hung by the neck until dead. Period.

Go back to school and try an earn you a GED, learn to read. Thousands and thousands of Immigrants come to the US every year and are more successful than you and actually understand our laws.

Its embarrassing that uneducated people like you remain so ignorant in our great country with so many programs to help the lazy and stupid

Absolutely!

Revoke their citizenship too, they’re obviously embarrassed by their country........we’ll be fine without them.
they are supported by America to represent the Country. That sort of childish crap should disqualify them from any support

Do you believe it was appropriate for the Miss American Pagent to remove a girl who won her state because she was a Trump supporter? I didn't see you on that thread.
I remember the 1968 black power fist that cost them the Olympic Gold

No, I don't think it appropriate if they removed her for views supporting a President, Politician, or even a particular cause. If she was espousing her support, while involved in actual contest events, thereby giving the impression the Pageant supported those views, then yes, she should be sanctioned.

I glanced at that thread, nice of you to keep track of me. Didn't see a need to comment though, other things going on. Had to keep up with the Q and Evolution threads. And a couple of bowhunting and questions for the gunwriters. Oh, I posted a dinner I had too, down in the food forum,

Geno

PS, I don't comment on "everything" that pisses me off. I'd never get to the happy stuff.
