What are you guys using? Any new chit out that can’t live without? I’m missing a bag and might need to order some more. Need a good set, F,IM, M, LM. All the way down. Browning invector plus.
Posted By: jaguartx Re: Choke tubes. - 09/26/19
IC for me on dove and quail.

Full not needed for big birds since shot cups.

IM for ducks, geese, squirrel, sandhills, home defense for dimo carps.
Posted By: SandBilly Re: Choke tubes. - 09/26/19
I like IC. Just curious about brand.
Posted By: luv2safari Re: Choke tubes. - 09/26/19
I do most everything with IC or IM, sometimes Mod.
Posted By: javman Re: Choke tubes. - 09/26/19
I've had good patterns with PF in my shot gun.

Carlson's choke tubes are as good as it gets for any application.

I know the founder personally, and he has done excellent work for me.

Those bass pro (iirc) black maxx ported tubes are carlson.

Nice, I’ll check into those. Thanks.
Posted By: rockinbbar Re: Choke tubes. - 09/26/19
I bought a minty Belgian Browning A-5 that had a horrible Cutts on it.

Sent the barrel to Carlson's and they took the Cutts off, threaded the inside of the barrel for screw in chokes, and sent it back with a full selection of chokes.

You couldn't tell that shotgun was anything but factory new. smile
Posted By: jaguartx Re: Choke tubes. - 09/26/19
Carlson's does great stuff I've always heard.

SB doesnt dove or quail hunt anymore anyway, Barry. wink

The only aftermarket choke tubes I buy are for turkey hunting. If I take up duck hunting some time then that will change I suppose, but for turkeys I like Indian Creek and Comp-n-Choke. I’m sure there are others as good but these two have not let me down.

Whats up with it???
Does it have a specific intail load sequence
Then drop shell in and top off after that 1st set of firing
Does it require a button on the carrier base to be engaged or disengaged when intial loading?

Whats it doing
Not familar with the a300

Gas gun or inertia rod gun ?

Can you cycle the bolt manually.
Does the bolt partially go back only.

Probably something really really simple and obvious.

Nope. Cant afford that crap. Estate or Remy dove load. 5.49 a box.

I sure would like a box of high brass 5s to flush those hard running blues out at 50-60 yards for Christmas though.

They get wild and start flushing out of range about then.

I cant run them down in those sandhills with 1 2/3 lungs and bad knees like I used to.

Failure to feed
Failure to chamber
Failure to lock
Failure to fire
Failure to unlock
Failure to extract
Failure to eject
Failure to cock

8 cycles of function

Gotta be one of em
Nail which one and address possible mechanical or assembly cause

(Useless infantry knowledge schit)

Cpt obvious question

When is the last time the gun was detailed broken down and the gas system cleaned.

Interia type gun
Has it been reassembled properly with the components in correct order on the mag tube.
Is the inertia rod properly seated into the plunger spring assembly in the butt stock and working on the proper angle between the bolt and spring plunger in buttstock
Is spring assembly in butt stock cleaned and lubed for inertia gun
Or has it ever been touched at all.

We aint done much for em since that tiff they had with mexico.

Im calling in an airstrike of 5 gallon balloons full of hoppes # 9 and some lucas gun oil for the shotgun right now.

Got a pair of A10,s in orbit at angels 10, 6 miles out.
Jag mark the shotgun with a ir strobe or have your FO shine it with his viper.
Get a peice of terrian or built up obstacle between you and it about 125 yds away.
Birds coming in from the south over your position.

I changed the recoil spring on my 12 ga Benelli to a Wolff 25% extra power spring, and so far things are better. Went through a few hundred pretty dirty Mexican Aguilas, and then a few boxes of Winchester Walmart specials 1-oz steel, and so far no hiccups this season. I’ll know more as the season progresses. But yeah, that gun was a no-cycling SOB there for a while as soon as it got a little dirty ...

I am using the factory Benelli Crio chokes and no complaints thus far.

I hunt withseveral shotguns, Beretta, Benelli and Browning. Have not used a full choke in 30 years or more. For ducks and geese, I use Mod or if in decoys, IC. For pheasants, Mod in top barrel, and IC in bottom of using O/U or Mod if using auto loader. For smaller birds, I use mostly LM or IC.

Briley. They have always performed well for me. No need to look anywhere else.
Posted By: 19352012 Re: Choke tubes. - 09/27/19
I think I put the IC tube in when I bought it, Beretta Extrema. I usually use Kent 3" 1 1/8oz 2s. Got some Fiocchi 3s to try next week. If they dont work out, I'll shoot em up and go back to Kent's. Most likely go back to Kent's anyway. Always liked em but Scheels didnt have any when I was in there.
Posted By: hotsoup Re: Choke tubes. - 09/27/19
I recommend Jebs for ducks and turkeys. For standard f,m,ic tubes I'd suggest going with those manufacturerd by the maker of your shotgun. If you can't find those, go with briley or Carson as both are outstanding.

Lot of difference between a turkey and a squirrel.
Posted By: JamesJr Re: Choke tubes. - 09/27/19
I have a Benelli SBE2 and it came with more chokes than Carter has Little Liver pills. As far as other chokes go, I have good look with the Hastings turkey chokes, along with the Indian Creek Black Diamond. I am currently using a Carlson Longbeard choke in my 20 gauge Remington, and it produces a very good pattern with the Longbeard shells.
Posted By: ltppowell Re: Choke tubes. - 09/27/19
Full.

And Benelli's Montefeltro (12ga) action was not designed to function with and load less than 1 1/8oz load. Velocity doesn't matter. We learned that the hard way with 1oz slugs. Should have read the instructions.
Posted By: woodmaster81 Re: Choke tubes. - 09/27/19
I have, use, and am happy with Briley/Browning, Carlson's, Colonial, Hastings, Rhino, Comp-n-Choke, whomever made the original Winchoke tubes, and probably a couple others I have forgotten. If the choke is the proper gauge and thread type, has the constriction I want, and is priced something I am willing to pay then I'll buy it. I have not found a significant difference between brands in quality but there are often slight differences in what constriction manufacturers deem a particular choke designation. Not a big deal if one pattern tests/checks POA/POI or understands what they are buying. The turkey tubes are one Briley/Browning that came with the Gold turkey gun and two that came in a green package but don't recall brand.

I tend to buy used, clearance, or sale chokes for considerably less than new. It is the reason I have a number of brands and don't really recall all the names. It's not overly important as long as the choke provides the patterns you want. I do prefer extended chokes though, it makes identification and changing them easier.

Yep, turkeys are bigger and have feathers.

A squirrels hide is a lot tougher to penetrate than a Turkey head.

I'm not trying to shoot turkeys in the body, J.

I shoot them in the body with my bow.
