]The car song thread made me think about first dates.
My wife said once time if I didn't pick her up in a truck she wouldn't have gone out with me lol, took her to a total dive bar/pizza joint. She was happy with it so was I. Gimme a redneck girl then went and got stuck in a snow drift, I was testing her digging skills and ability to put up with my random situations, (was not going to get with a pretentious B%$#@ like my ex)

But brings me back to a totally messed up first date with a very nice girl.
I picked her up and we went had had a meal, after dinner she could tell i was tense as I took her home,
then dropped her off a block away from her house, some how I blew out a brake line on the truck and
relying only on downshifting to stop, didn't want to admit I was driving her around in a truck with no brakes.
I didn't get a second date.

We went on a taco run with a 12 pack of Miller ponies.

That was back in the late 70's.

Took my ex on a first date to the Drive Inn Theater.
I always park near the center, and I always get out with windex and paper towels and clean the windshield before the movie starts.
Looked back a few rows, and there set her older brother, who was also a friend of mine.
I walked back and did his windshield too! grin

Took a girl to the show, Gregory Peck movie McKenna’s Gold. Her dad was just starting a car dealership. He owns many in several states now. I should have stayed with her, but fouled that up.

I guess the first was one my cousin fixed me up with this girl last name Kroger. Her dad owned some grocery stores. Didn't go well.

Buddy's wife lined me up with a cute redhead that worked in the same office, we went on a blind date with the other couple. Dancing and partying at the Mather AFB NCO club until the wee hours.

A few months later we got married in a nice ceremony at the McClellan AFB chapel. We have been togather now almost 48 years.

I have sworn many times I will never go on another blind date. laugh

First date with my favorite gal of all time was her doing - it was a Sadie Hawkins hayride deal held by her sorority and she invited me. Hardly knew her but she was exceedingly cute and very smart. Before the ride started I suggested we sit on the front of the wagon - wanted to see how the tractor operated - interesting for an urban fellow. In the forest we had a bonfire and ate usual stuff - but had my first S'mores that night - she kept making them for as long as I would eat another. I liked her. We sat on the back of the wagon on the way back to campus - very, very nice. Given that, I never went on a single date with anyone else. We became closer and closer, and were married within a year of that first date. It will be 60 years in 2020.

Wifey and I went to a movie, out to eat. I can’t remember if we went dancing after. I met her in a dance hall in 83.

My very first date was to see E.T. but it was sold out and we saw Poltergeist instead. Didn't go on another one but it seemed she dated a lot of my friends in the following years. Funny part was we knew the person in common through different places.

My first date with my wife was toToby Keith's "Boomtown" concert. The catch was we would miss the opening act as we had to work a booth for that period of time. Aswe were leaving, I noticed a gal from where we hung out crying on the stairs. We found out her boyfriend dumped her at the show and left her. I offered the girl a ride home fearing my date would be upset with me. My date was actually impressed and we eventually married.

My most memorable first date was a blind date set up by a friend's wife. For some reason my buddy's wife thought Eddie Murphy's "Raw" would be appropriate. It was as my blind date and I had gone out before. And it did not work out well. That time nor the earlier one.

I once took a girl to a Chinese restaurant on a first date. The girl commented on my proficiency with chopsticks, so I said "that's nothing, when you're really good you can eat soup with 'em."

When she said "really, I'd like to see that" I knew there wasn't gonna be a second date.

Blind date, I was 14, she wore tight pink stretch pants and a sleeveless white shirt, I had five bucks left after the movie tickets were bought, that baby lulu roman caused me to spend my last red cent at the concession stand, what a hungry little pig she was, I shudder to think of what she may have grown in to. shocked eek sick

Not our first date but one day I pulled up to her house to drop her off after an afternoon movie and her Dad was mowing his lawn out front.

Girlfriend hopped out saying, "Hi Dad!" He shuts off the mower and walks over to say hi and as I'm coming around the front end of my car to shake hands I notice a fresh sticky used condom stuck to my hood of my Mustang.

I quickly positioned my body to shield the evidence from him. Surprisingly, he never knew.

I must've judged the wind wrong when I threw it out after our back seat afternoon delight.

He was a taciturn man. To this day I chuckle over the subterfuge.

Met at a party. I was hammered and asked her out. First date was fast food ...we met there and i saw her get out of her car ( hmmmm, not ugly) and we pretty much just sat and had a long talk. Then we drove around in my Jeep shining deer. Season over.....just looking for what made it through.

She never heard of that activity.

We really did drive around looking for deer.

I was a senior at the Univ of Idaho. One weekend, I was headed home to Boise for a couple days. Word traveled fast that a car was going south and in no time I had 5 passengers to split the cost. One was a cute freshman girl I'd never met before. She didn't say a word the whole round trip. The next weekend I asked her out for a coke or something to see if she had a voice. Girl with butt length hair next row in Bio 101. Just walked from the dorms to a college sponsored dance. Forty seven years in now.

Took about a 60-mile drive this evening to see if a rutting herd of elk were still going at it.

I once got up the courage to ask a girl I was sweet on out. Borrowed my dad’s pickup and drove her to the movie. I hadn’t told her but it was opening night for Old School, instant classic for you guys who haven’t seen it, and that was what we were there to see. She wasn’t impressed, no sense of humor I guess. On the way home I came inches from running over a drunk Indian that was walking the center stripe of the highway, scared us both. Turned down a country road headed to her house and maybe 2 miles after the near miss with Chief Old Milwaukee, fence is down and I run through a bunch of black steers out in the road and ditch. Did some pretty good hobbystock driving and managed to miss all the bovines. Thought I had it made and then half a mile north of her house I ran over a rabbit that darted out of the ditch. When I dropped her off I went to get out and walk her to the door, she stopped me by saying, “I’m a big girl, I can walk myself”.

Talked her into a redo a couple weeks later. Pretty much game over when we arrived at the movie and the only thing not sold out was Old School. I drove 30 miles and wasn’t leaving without watching a movie.

Actually ended up dating her for a while the next year and it wasn’t too bad but the first couple dates were memorable.

I met "The Warden" at a feed store sponsored dance.
Wasn't planning on attending, but a friend insisted I go - free bar!
I went and met a young lady who was having a spat with her dad, and at the end of the evening - wanted a ride home.
I said "OK where do you live?" Answer - "About 30 miles north of here." OK
We get part way there, and she says "Snow has blocked the road, so we need to go the other way."
Wound up being 57 miles each way from my house.

I tell her "The only guys who married you, or your sisters - were the only ones who could find their way back a second time."
That house (now ours) sits 12 -14 miles off the pavement - in back country!

Coming up hard on 44 years married - 46 years together! (She was "young and dumb" - her excuse - 17 when we married) smile smile smile

I thought I already responded but guess not. I was between junior and senior year of high school at this time. My Mom asked me to go on a double date because her friend asked if I would, that lady wanted her son to marry this young lady but the young lady had a cousin in town. I already had no lack of female companionship, so I was pretty leary from the get-go. I drive and we pick up these girls and they had no interest in me. Which was reciprocal, I had no interest in them. I told the other dude, if one of the girls doesn't start being a little more friendly, its gonna be an early night because these girls are the opening act, Bethel is waiting for me to come over. So I got up from the table so he could give him a chance to deliver the message. We eat and I cannot get a word out of them but they are hanging on his every word. I ask the girls if they want dessert, don't worry I'm buying. They both got something and one says something very snippy about how I should be buying. I look at the other guy and that dude is looking at me pleading for me to be patient. I take the check and go pay, then walk out to my car and drive to Bethel's where I had a heck of a night. Next day my Mom asked how my night was and I told her awesome after I ditched those 3. Mom's friend even tracked me down to yell at me and I told her she should set her sights higher for her son. I don't think Lois really cared for me. The other kid told me later that he had to call his stepdad to come get them and the stepdad was laughing gleefully about the whole thing.

I took a work transfer to Minnesota with the optical company I was working for at the time. I got situated, and a couple weeks later, found a rifle range to go shoot. Walked in the office, and there's a really pretty blonde working at the desk. On later visits we got to know each other, and I asked her out. Our first date was dinner at a nice sports bar called Champ's and we went to see a western movie, Silverado if I remember right. We've been happily married for over 25 years now. And yes, I definitely married up. I'm a very lucky man.

Did you father ever make you polish the windshield of your pickup with newspaper before a dance?

I still think it was a prank.....

Jim you might appreciate this. I was captain of my volunteer fire company and we were having a fireman’s muster that first date. One of my guys was driving our engine around the grounds, giving rides to kids. I asked her if she wanted to go for a ride, and told the driver to get out, I’ll take over. He of course told me to be careful as the field was getting muddy. Sure whatever I said and proceeded to get that old Maxim pumper stuck to the running boards. The chief lost his mind and ended up having to pay the amusement company $200 to pull me out with a Mack tractor. I was beyond embarrassed and since I was the next to be hired off the list figured I screwed that up to. Turns out my date was impressed that I took the beating so well and we ended up getting married, 34 years and counting. Oh and a couple months later I was offered and accepted a job as a firefighter. To this day my chief still laughs about it.

I get set up on a blind date by a co-workers wife that thought I needed it. Sarah invited me out to a get together at a yuppie bar with her and some friends. OK, sure. I get there and there's a long table packed with 20 and 30 something year old women, must have been about a dozen of them. I was the only guy. They were ALL having great fun checking me out and grilling me. I was 1) unemployed, having just sold a business 2) homeless, just sold the house too 3) just divorced.

I guess I got voted off the island. Sarah called a time or two later and I'd tell her about the 54 GMC 4x4 suburban I was building and we made small talk. Finally she just blurts out, "I shouldn't have called, this was a mistake".

I couldn't agree more, uptight bitch.

The legendary Skyway bar in Idaho Falls. There were 3 couples and she was with one of the other guys. I was a lot more interested in her than my date but it would have been uncool to do anything. I bought her (and others) a couple drinks, she smiled, winked and thanked me. She showed up at my work a few days later and I thought she was pretty cute. 39 years later she's still pretty cute.

We got a 6-pack and went to the river at the falls to watch kayakers, her idea. We were leaving in my truck and she said, "I have to pee, see if you can find a place."

So I was thinking gas station or 7-11, and she said "where are you going, there's some bushes over there, pull over."

That was my first clue.

My first date with one girl was kind of weird. It was a blind date with her sister who turned out to be one of coldest witches I'd ever dated. After the ordeal was over, I talked to he sister and figured what the hell and asked her out. She said OK and we went to the drive in movie. I don't remember what was playing as as soon as it got dark enough she just about raped me. WTF? We dated quite a bit after that and later married. We divorced five years late due to parental interference on both sided. Her mother hated me and my grandmother hated her and twixt the two old biddies they destroyed our marriage. There is a happy ending to all this as about a year after the divorce I met who was to be my second wife and that lasted until she passed last year. We had 52 good years. My first wife? Well she lives all alone and gotten so fat she looks like Jabba the Hut. Life was not kind to her. Funny thing is we're still friends.

We did circle back around some years later and will have 36 great years together on June 2.

Moved back to Huntsville in 1988. Asked a cute girl at work (she was married) if she knew someone I could take to a play my friend got tickets for. She fixed me up for dinner with her friend (Sherry) and she and her husband came too. Only found out after I married Sherry, that the one who introduced us, was having problems in her marriage and only wanted Sherry to come so she could spend time with me. Actually told Sherry that. Good news is that she worked things out with her husband and they stayed married until he passed. Unfortunately, we are going to her funeral tomorrow, as she just passed herself.

Kinda a second and first date story. Found a chick online and we met for a date. I was kinda Meh, but she knew I liked fishing and talked me into meeting her and a friend next day to go fishing.

I met them at the pier and we spent the day together. End of the day we were packing up and I said “This isn’t going to work out. But I really like your friend!”

She gave me the friends number and we went out a few times but it didn’t work out. We were driving one day I griped about an idiot driver who was going too slow in the passing lane. She said “I’m one of those drivers” and didn’t appreciate my griping.

Just as well. Couldn’t imagine her driving me home after a night out and having to put up with lousy driving.

When I was bouncing at this little tourist bar, one of the local girls happened to be cute and tall as well, and showed interest. We got to hanging out while I worked for a few nights, and I asked her out. We decided to go to a movie at the new theater in "big town" about 10 miles up the road. Nice place, recliner seats, full bar service.

We picked "Sophie's Choice"........ That was one heck of a downer night. We ended up dating pretty seriously after that, but our goals in life were not compatible. Still think of her often, hope life has been kind to her.

I was a junior in college and was really into playing bridge. One of my fraternity brothers named Tom was my bridge partner and we were pretty good. One night, we drove over to one of the female dorms, and Tom knew the TA at the front desk. He asked if there were any girls who wanted to play bridge. Ten minutes later, this beautiful Italian girl shows up with a cute little blonde. We played bridge for a couple of hours, and she was not only a skilled bridge player, but funny and brilliant. We’ve been married 50 years and have two great sons ages 48 and 46, who have given us four wonderful grandkids, ages 16, 13, 11 and 9.

WyoCowboy;
Good evening to you sir, I hope the weekend has been treating you well thus far and this finds you well.

Thanks for starting the interesting thread and of course as always thanks to the respondents, without which it wouldn't be what it is.

On my first date with my now wife, we were leaving a church supper and headed to a local fellows place for coffee and board games as I recall. She knew my older brother, not me really, but saw that I was alone in my pickup and said she'd ride with me. I used to kid her that she liked my nearly new '80 Toyota 4x4 as they were a new thing then and it got lots of looks and comments.

Anyways we visited a fair bit and when I called and asked her the next day if we could do coffee sometime, she said sure, so I headed the 45 minutes into the small town where she lived. Funny thing was we ended up having coffee with her folks and visiting with them. She said later that they were impressed that I was comfortable enough to chat the night away with all of them, but honestly my future parents in law and I got along great until they passed.

Oh, the next date we went hill climbing and mudding in the 4x4, but it was the one after that which sealed it with me.

We went on the time honored Saskatchewan weekend pastime of shooting gophers. As we sat in an abandoned farm yard plinking gophers, one popped up on her side of the truck and began to enthusiastically crunch on the bones of it's recently deceased cousin or brother.

She commented, "Huh, I didn't know they'd do that" and when I replied something like, "Yah real life isn't like Walt Disney shows it", she shrugged and muttered, "Well we can't have that sort of behavior spreading then" and shot the cannibal gopher dead center!

I knew then and there if she wasn't "the one" then I'd never find her and not too, too long after I asked if she'd be interested in trying to make a go of it with a guy who had no clue what he wanted to be in life but wasn't scared of work.

That was 38 years ago this fall that we were married, but the gopher shoot was likely about now that spring. I've been blessed far beyond anything I've ever done to deserve it and honestly can thank her for any sort of material success we've been able to achieve. It's been a grand ride all in all.

Thanks for letting me relive some of those times when I typed them sir, all the best to you all. Stay well.

Our first date centered on changing the shocks on her car. She was a good mechanic and knew a lot about cars. Came in handy when we raced up and down the West Coast. It's been 43 years and going strong.
