Making things from scrap/junk. We are cutting up an old hay rake, I'm making steel tube wire gate end pipes. I cut to length, then weld parts of old chain links to hold the barb wire.
Any of the 'fire rednecks come up with ways to make useful things cheap?
Sounds like sculpture, got a picture?
hell ya. i got a pile of washing machines, lawnmowers, furnaces, etc out back that i have used for various redneck things. i made a log skidder out of some duct work and skis among other things. it works for moving those big rounds around. pretty crude but effective. i pull fittings, hoses, etc off the schit before i scrap it. i have boxes and shelves of crap that my kids will inherit. they will be thrilled i'm sure. my old man did the same thing. i still have some of his stuff. it has come in handy a lot of times.
No, and I'm too lazy to go back out.
I have read a stockpile of junk around is a mark of poverty. I must be mighty poor!
My two adult (sort of adult) sons who live in Missouri love to cut, weld, machine things into repurposes. They both have good vehicles and motorcycles, but they get the most fun out of their frankenvehicles. They get it from their maternal grandfather, I'm sure. He was one of those rural mechanical geniuses. Latest project I heard about is making remote releases for dog-training bumper launchers from old RC car parts.
Everything here gets saved.
Never know when you may need to re-purpose it...
Got a couple of really nice firewood racks made from manure spreader beater bars. They came from the local Case plant when it closed. Friend who was CFO there got a whole barn full of stuff.
Making a waterfowl blind seat and decoy cart out of a camping canvas and aluminum rocker and high wheels off a lawnmower. To old to pack deeks ,gun, waders, and food in on my back, and packing all the above plus ducks and geese out just requires a cart of some sort.
I've made a stand for my powder measure, a stand for Jake's DeWalt cutoff saw, a router table, and more from scrap .
Everything here gets saved.
Never know when you may need to re-purpose it...
Yup.
I've just about got all the stuff I need to build a small Hi-lo, it'll lift 2000 lbs about 8 feet. Ain't very high but it's all I need.
The base for my grinders, anvil, and a few other things are made out of 14" auto wheels. I don' t throw any steel away.
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who has a junkyard on the premises.
This thread caught my eye-I'm using junk, but my trouble is I'm trying to keep it running/working for what it was originally purposed for!
Only good thing about it is the bank isn't going to come after it cause it ain't worth nothin'!
I use a lot for pig traps.
This is a mini post hole digger made for digging around the water line coming up under a cattle warterer.
I use scraps or pieces sometimes to make brackets or straps to repair things sometimes.
A bolt bin made with the antifreeze can in the day
Right. Good digger, the mud dauber welds capture the true spirit of the exercise and the bolt bin begs to be browsed.
My old man was the king of keeping old junk for reuse on the farm. Me and the little brother called him Fred Sanford. 😬
My buddy and I were driving around the interior of Alaska when he proclaimed that oil and gold were nothing as a natural resource compared to used metal recycling. There were “places” where acres were “fenced” by a ring of used cars, washing machines, dryers and pretty much any appliance made of metal. 😁
This is a different gate pipe, one made years ago. A "cheater" pipe to close a tight gate.
This tube came from a Noble mulcher that was on a Hiniker field cultivator that broke a wing off.
Ninja please
I yanked the throttle body off of my 1989 nissan pathfinder, by-passed the computer.
Bought a Holley electric fuel pump, took a piece of flat plate steel, bored a holed in it and mounted a two barrel carb off of a ford ranger onto the intake and it's GTG
Pffft you used a pipe to adjust a gate.?
Hey,
No Gleaner love?
I need a pic of that more than a MF'in MF.
Cool pics, though.
Perkins diesel in the MF for the win!
And to be completly honest I didn't do much of the fabrication, just a fancy helper monkey.....
I've heard those Perking's run on air.
You are Rez smart......you mf'er.
or not.
If the piece fits...bolt it. If it doesn't...weld it.
Lot's of underappreciated talent out there making do with what you got.
Mornin to ya. Ya I do the same thing. People say ,,,,,old so n so down the road made his own atv, put a big bike engine it. Man is it fast, hope he doesn't kill himself on it. Ya my Dad said that he's the one guy in the world that CAN make a silks purse out of a sows ear. If the world had a catastrophe & there was but a few of us left I'd pick him to be on my team way ahead of any politician!!!! But I'd pick Bobby Cundler the retarded boy down in the holler with only one arm afore a politician. Lol lol lol lol . Bill out 🐾👣🇨🇦
